15 Punisher: War Zone Pics Get Up In Your Face

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on November 26, 2008

It is no secret that I am less than excited about the upcoming release of Punisher: War Zone. I am a Tom Jane loyalist, rejecting any lesser incarnation as nothing but ‘Punisher lite.’ Though, we’ve heard time and time again that Lionsgate and director Lexi Alexander are trying to give us a Punisher movie that is anything but ‘lite.’ For the sake of Punisher fans, I can only hope that they deliver on that promise.

But enough about that, lets focus on the fact that we’ve received 15 brand new photos from the film, which hits theaters on December 5th. In the gallery below you will see some shots of Dominic West looking gruesome as Jigsaw, Julie Benz looking both scared and hot (but mostly just hot) as Angela Donatell, and Ray Stevenson doing his best to look intimidating as Frank Castle. Also, Newman! Have a look for yourself below.

Stevenson LOOKS like Castle. The flick looks brutal and vicious. There's been more mayhem in the Warzone TRAILERS as there's been in the last whole 2 flicks put together. Those 2 red-banded trailers have dissipated ANY competition between War Zone and Jane Crap. Please. Put down the Jane doll, pick up a Punisher mag and open your eyes.
Yes, War Zone MAY be crappy but how ANYONE can bash it by saying it's "getting away" from what makes Punisher great is (I'm sorry) loony. It'll be crappy because the Punisher is untransposable to the big screen, or very difficult to say the least.
Lexi Alexander seems to have committed herself to the COMIC, not to the INTERPRETATION of what some producer (and apparently, a lot of "fans"), having read but 2 or 3 issues, THINKS is the comic. I commend her for that. My opinion?
    I'm in.
    Peace

Ray Stevenson is gonna do a helluva job as big Castle.I still don't see what was soooo special about Thomas Jane's performance in the first version.I swear people acted like the guy should have won an Oscar or something.I've been a Punisher fan for years and after seeing the 2004 garbage I started to appreciate the Dolph Lundgren version,I know it was low budget but at least he was ACTUALLY punishing people. To all you haters out there go continue to watch your gay 2004 version and call it a day.

Man Ray's gonna be a beast in this movie. The Thomas Jane version was.....uh...ummm...need I say more?

Yeah, I tried to watch the Thomas Jane one again, and I had to turn it off a quarter-way into the flick. I think at first I was just excited to see a Punisher movie, and the action scenes weren't that bad, some were even kind of good--but wow, the script is incredibly tacky (which I could see Warzone having the same stigma), and Travolta just ruins everything he's in... Scientology jackoff.

I enjoyed Jane's Punisher flick, but his performance seemed a little bit forced at times. It wasn't natural at all. Not to mention it was VERY rushed. It was still a cool flick.

Neil, we understand that you really enjoyed Jane's performance, but I feel that you've elevated it to a status that wouldn't be obtainable by any actor. Hopefully, this one can start a new franchise that will extend beyond just one film.

It isn't necessary to take anything away from Tom when saying Ray looks the part of Frank Castle and is a fine actor, and I look forward to seeing what he does with the role on December 5th. For that matter the whole cast looks great! (especially Julie! mmmmmm)
  • In the 2004 version he didn't just punish people with violence, but with mind games. He completely deconstructed Saint's life. If all you want is mindless stylized action, War Zone will probably do it. But if you're a fan of the comic, you know the Punisher isn't about style and flash and jumping off buildings and hanging from ropes. The last 15 minutes of the Tom Jane Punisher movie were perfect and it was a set up to go into the sequel. All that got thrown away.
  • Ray Stevenson will get blamed when this one goes down the tubes...completely to blame? Probably not, but its still easy to do.

To Robert Fure please get off Thomas Jane's dick, and lets face it Ray Stevenson makes him look like a straight up pussy.Do we really want a Punisher who looks like an underwear model?Get the F@# out of here please!

I still can't believe how we keep coming back to this. I understand that all opinions differ and that what some prefer about the Castle character, others don't and vice-versa, but still...
I like Tom Jane, ok? I think he's a very charismatic actor. I would like to see him in more films.
But he is NOT Frank Castle. Had ZERO intimidation value. Now please, enough.
Like everybody says, the last 10 minutes of the 2004 was good. I kinda agree but... a bow and arrow? "Personal mines"? Ok, to each his own. Personally, the high point of the film for me was the Russian fight. The rest was absolute shite.
