‘Shaun’ and ‘Fuzz’ Pave Way for ‘World’s End’

Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg, the creative minds behind Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are gearing up to finish what they’ve called the “Cornetto trilogy.” According to the Guardian UK, Wright and Pegg, both currently involved in other projects revealed some plot details regarding the third film. The working title (which will be produced by Working Title) is The World’s End and it has nothing to do with the Pirates abomination released last year but should be more of a sci-fi War of the Worlds homage.
The “Cornetto trilogy” is a reference to Wright’s favorite brand of ice cream, and like Krzysztof Kieslowski’s 90’s trilogy Red, White, and Blue (also known as the “Three Colors Trilogy”) a different flavor of Cornetto has appeared in each of Wright/Pegg’s films. According to Wikipedia:
The Cornetto is referenced in the motion picture Shaun of the Dead. In one scene, Shaun (Simon Pegg) asks Ed (Nick Frost) if he needs anything from the shop. Ed responds, “Cornetto.” This scene is repeated with the same actors in Hot Fuzz, and is a reference to co-writer and director Edgar Wright, whose preferred hangover cure is a Cornetto. In Shaun of the Dead, the flavor used was strawberry, which has red packaging to signify blood, and in Hot Fuzz, the flavor was classico (vanilla), which has blue packaging to signify police colors. A third film in the (trilogy) has been announced by Pegg and Wright, and the flavor will be mint. The film will be called The World´s End.
After taking on the zombie genre and the action genre, I’m excited to see what Wright and Pegg come up with in The World’s End. Aliens? Nuclear bombs? Will the escaped duck from Hot Fuzz come back, WITH A VENGEANCE?
The World’s End is set to begin production once Wright (The Ant-Man) and Pegg’s (Star Trek) current projects are complete.
