Vin Diesel to Play a Marvel Super-Villain?

Posted by Rob Hunter (rob@filmschoolrejects.com) on August 29, 2008

Look! Here on the page! It’s our fourth Vin Diesel story in as many days!

Please note the question mark in the title above as there has been no official announcement regarding Vin Diesel playing a super villain in the Marvel universe… but that may change soon if he has anything to say about it. MTV sat down with Diesel to talk about his new movie, Babylon A.D., and discovered one of his dream roles instead. After inferring that Diesel himself is cartoonish and larger than life (my interpretation anyway) the interviewer asked “Why the hell have we not seen you do one of these [comic book films]?” The always modest Diesel responded that he’s been lucky enough to create characters on screen making him “the Stan Lee of film, if you will.” Not sure what that means, but a real answer followed.

“I’ve been holding out, and the reason I’ve been holding out is because I’m waiting to do a film where the protagonist is the villain. I’m kind of done with the Marvel hero. I now want to see, what would be exciting to me and no one’s come to me with yet is a film about a villain that we’re familiar with in Marvel, and showing the complexities.”

Asked if he had a villain in mind, Diesel whispered into his own shoulder, “I have one in mind but I must keep it close to the vest.” He then smiled and said “But I gave you a lot!”

So what do you think? Can you see Diesel playing a villain, let alone one with “complexities?” If so, who? And did he actually give any real hints to the Marvel villain he has in mind?

But he's Riddick, how can he move away from that character!!!!

Seriously, yeah I could see him as a villian,,,,
    He's kinda a weird dude.
  • Does anyone else think he's talking about Venom?
  • Reggie D.
NO! NO! NO! Not Venom I wouldn't want him to be that character. I would like to make him as APOCALYPSE!!!
  • Which Marvel comic had "The Shitty Actor" as a super-villan? I don't seem to remember that one.
  • David
Well which Marvel villains wear the "vest"?? But Vin D isnt very diverse with his acting. I am getting sick of seeing him play the same character in all his movies.

for some reason i think he might be talking about The Kingpin, only because theyre both bald.
  • HempKnight757
I think Kraven or Red Skull, but he isn't good enough to play the Red Skull & Kraven/Rhino is just him as any other character he has already portrayed basically. The Kingpin never just because he's bald doesn't give him the part. I wish they would bring The Kingpin in to the Fourth Spiderman that would be tight
