That’s it. Hollywood has officially jumped the fridge. With the announcement that another Judge Dredd film will be coming down the pipe, filmmakers can now claim ‘epic failure’ as an excuse to re-envision a character.
2000 AD is announcing through there forums that they’re partnering with Rebellion and DNA Films – you’ll know DNA as the production company that helped bring us Sunshine, 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.
There are no other details, and it’s a silver lining that a production company with a background in sci-fi is heading things up, but they’ll need to populate this thing with some strong talent to get over the hurdle that the name Dredd brings with it.
The 1995 outting with the character was done by Cinergi Pictures and Hollywood Pictures who didn’t have a sci-fi background at all (unless you count Son in Law since Pauly Shore’s career is only explainable through quantum physics), and was directed by then-newcomer Danny Cannon who didn’t have a sci-fi background either.
