It seems that studios know they probably made a crap movie in terms of plot and solid characters, and are hoping that all the loud explosions and pretty faces will distract the movie going public from zeroing in on the film's negative aspects too much.
But seriously, do horror movie lovers really think the media is going to give high marks to most of the films that come out in the genre? Probably not. Are most action movies going to have great oscar worthy plots? Thats usually a big no. Its all about the entertainment value so why don't they stop being scared of bad reviews and take it like professionals.

It's an interesting bluff on Paramount's part, but I don't think it's going to work. People nowadays know that when a movie isn't screened for critics, it usuall means it's going to stink.

you sir, are wrong about transformers 2. the film was such a huge hit BECAUSE it was transformers. they are part of everyones childhood and thus, a moving featuring supposed live action transformers, is going to fill the seats.

personally, I think paramount's excuss is very valid. look what happen to terminator salvation! whether you think the film was good or not is besides the point, because more people would have watched it with no critic reviews just because its the next installment in an amazing franchise.

consider everyone thinks g.i. joe will be shit. the trailers aren't helping them any. add on top of that shit reviews from a load of critics and they will fail faster then public enemies. this is a good strategy to ensure big opening weekend numbers and I wish t4 had of done the same.

as for transformers 2, yes it opened big, but it would have opened bigger without such horrible reviews. people are so often tainted by the opinion of a slew of biased critics. consider how many films critics watch. they have a handful of films that they believe can never be surpassed and many just consider everything shit in comparison. they aren't fair, but people are sheep and listen. so paramount, good call. I will be watching you film come friday... after I see the stanely cup.
