Seeing as so many of our SXSW-attending readers found my little daily updates so useful last year, I’ve decided to bring them back for this year. So here it is, Today @ SXSW, my daily guide to what you should be seeing at the little festival affectionately known as South-by.

Today is opening day. The big kick-off, the opening frame, a lovely start to a lovely affair. The beginning of all things. Except for man, that started some time ago. And we’re looking forward to the U.S. premiere of a movie that is sure to beat in some skulls, the SXSW open of a movie about two good ‘ole boys trying to fight off evil and a movie about two brothers, both of whom look eerily like Edward Norton.

But first, an advisory. If you’d like to follow along with the Rejects on Twitter, here’s where you can do so:

And now, the movies. Below you will find my quick reason why you should get your ass do the screening, along with the time and venue information.

Kick-Ass (7p, Paramount)

If you need a reason to see Kick-Ass at this point, I’m not sure I have much help for you. The movie is burning up the streets here in Austin and it doesn’t premiere until tonight. Everyone and their brother will be in line early, so don’t spend too much time ogling the Texas Chili Parlor, where Death Proof was shot. Quick dinner, and down to the Paramount with ya.

Leaves of Grass (9:30p, Alamo Lamar)

Leaves of Grass

Tim Blake Nelson directs Edward Norton and Edward Norton. Two brothers come together from their very different worlds to try and save themselves. Having watched this flick the other night, I can tell you that it’s pretty funny — in an odd sort of way. Worth seeing if you don’t get into Kick-Ass.

Predators Exclusive First Look (10p, Alamo Ritz)

Under the downtown lights and just inside from the hustle and bustle of 6th street, Robert Rodriguez and Nimrod Antal will unleash the first footage of their upcoming Predators movie. Will it be the badass bloodbath that we expect from Robby Rod? Or will it cause ritualistic fanboy post-remake stress disorder? We’ll soon know.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (Midnight, Alamo Ritz)

Tucker and Dale vs Evil

Two country bumpkins (Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine) are just trying to have a quiet fisherman’s weekend at a cabin deep in the woods of West Virginia. A group of college kids are out camping, getting drunk and always looking for their Deliverance moment. When these two forces converge, the proverbial shit will hit the proverbial fan. It’s hilarious, go see it.
