This week in the world of movie posters, we explore the ever-growing phenomenon of the Mondo Tees exclusive print, something that our long-time readers and fellow Austinites know something about. Mondo Tees is the beautiful sore that grows out the side of an Alamo Drafthouse, selling t-shirts, posters and geek paraphernalia to the masses as they stumble out of the Drafthouse, drunk with movie love — and Guinness milkshakes. These guys get some of the best stuff as well, including several posters that we’ve featured in the short life of this column. Today, we begin with this week’s Mondo special. Two (probably sold out) posters for your to ogle.

The Mondo Tees Special: The Wolfman and Frozen

These two lovely prints were created specially for Mondo. The Frozen poster (right) is the work of Kevin Tong, whose work can be found over at TragicSunshine.com. The guy does some very vibrant stuff, and his site is full of very cool band posters for the likes of Cake, Wilco and Jimmy Eat World. Needless to say, this Frozen print has some style. The same can be said for the work of Martin Ansin on the left, in the print for The Wolfman. Ansin’s work — which can be found at MartinAnsin.com — skews a bit closer to comic realism, but is exciting all the same. His Wolfman print has a great classic feel to it, similar to what we might have seen from the artists of the 50s and 60s who introduced us to the Universal monsters.

Casino Jack – Clearly a Crazy Person

The poster for Alex Gibney’s next film, Casino Jack and the United States of Money doesn’t pull any punches. This is a movie about Jack Abramoff, who is featured front and center. And inside this man’s mind are expensive habits, buckets of money and at least half of an attractive woman. The buzz out of Sundance is that this doc was pretty entertaining and simultaneously terrifying.
