I wonder if that has more to say about the reviewer or the acting ability of the women appearing in the films of the past, what was it, ten years?

Well if you were doing the best performances of the decade, Tobey MaGuire would not even be close to the top ten, and clearly these aren't the MOST memorable if you've left out Robert Downey Jr. as Iron but put in Charlize Theron from Monster; while her performance was great, it really wasn't seen by many people therefore making it not that memorable. This seems to be a mix between the most memorable, and the best; not really JUST the most memorable.

As much as I loved the movies of the decade I guess I'm kind of surprised at how few really truly great performances there were. I mean Tom Hanks for example had three or four roles in the 90s that were many times better than Cast Away. A lot of the films I loved such as No Country or Children of Men weren't really about great individual performances.

I guess my point is I think this list is fucking stupid in some parts but I can't really think of anything really better. Maybe from some more foreign films would be good to add to here. Eihi Shiina, the female lead from Audition or Choi Min-sik from Oldboy.

I'm pissed that I can't articulate a good response to how idiotic I think the inclusions of Heder and Ferrell are. I don't think I would ever take your recomendation for a good comedy after reading that. As funny as I think he is, all Ferrell does is say extremely stupid things very loudly and with excessive confidence. I guess he does it pretty well by comedy standards but even then, one of the best then in the decade? My balls are burning cause I just puked into my lap when I typed that.

Richard Harris as Dumbledore (way better than the current one), Joaquin Phoenix in Gladiator, Hugo Weaving in V for Vendetta, Willem Dafoe in Spider-Man, the main guy in District 9, Sam Rockwell in Moon, Denzel in Training Day

I would probably also put Uma Thurman's The Bride up there. It's certainly not a vendetta I have against actresses I was just giving my honest opinions. Originally this list called for "Definitive" performances of the decade when I wrote it, then was changed to "Memorable" when published, and has been interpreted as to what the "Best" performances were this decade. I'm not giving excuses or anything, but those differences definitely change the tone in which this article is perceived. If I were giving a "Best of" I could tell you at least 4 female performances I would put on there -- Winslet in Eternal Sunshine, Theron in Monster, Frances McDormand in Almost Famous, and Audrey Tautou in A Very Long Engagement (not Amelie).

Looks like about one quarter of these actors are women. Hmmmm....I wonder if that has more to say about the reviewer or the acting ability of the women appearing in the films of the past, what was it, ten years??

I think Heath should be nominated once, but for BOTH performances--The Joker AND Ennis Del Mar. He had matured to a point that every actor strives for: he wasn't "acting," he was "being." He inhabited those characters, became them, to the point that I couldn't wait until he was back onscreen.

100% agree with Daniel Day Lewis. He was just outstanding in both of those movies and I feel he should have had the Oscar for Bill the Butcher. He made that movie, and you can't forget that character once you see him. Tom Hanks makes sense cause he just gets better with age, and I am sure he still has 3-4 Oscar worthy performances coming.
