Deadgirl was released in 2008. Pontypool didn't screen very many places in the US, Dead Snow (mindless as well) wasn't that good, Thirst was a let down. From Within, technically a 2008 film, is definitely not top 10 material either.

Drag Me to Hell, aka Loud Noises, is in the running for best comedy, most likely. Its on enough other top horror lists. I didn't think it was great as a movie, thought it was poor as a horror movie, and it was predictable. It was a 3 Stooges Halloween episode.

Who the hell is Robert Fure and why is he reviewing horror movies, because he obviously isn't a fan of anything other than brainless slashers. The Collector? Hills Run Red? Coraline isn't even a horror movie, and you rank it above Zombieland? (And yes, I've seen it.) Why not throw Avatar on there too if one or two scenes “scared” you? If anyone bothered to delve into the depth of horror movies this year, they'd discover films like Pontypool, Dead Snow, Thirst, Sauna, Deadgirl, Home Movie, From Within, Dorothy Mills and many, many more that are better than this garbage list.

And how can any list of 2009 Horror not have THIRST on it? At no. 1? An erotic horror movie about a vampire priest directed by the Chan-wook Park (Old Boy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Lady Vengeance). I mean… the sound editing in that movie alone is better than the entire re-hash of F13. My opinion of course.

Excellent call on Coraline Mr. Fure. I wholeheartedly agree, Coraline scared the Hell out of me. (Granted, I'm a horror wimp. I'm more Val Lewton than Friday The 13th.)

Two films I would ask about are Let The Right One In and Ink? (The DVD of Let The Right One In just arrived and Ink is on order so I've yet to see either.) I'm not sure when each film was “officially” released, or if either has had a release in the states? I do know that both have received great praise here on FSR this year. While its obvious that Let The Right One In is a horror film, I'm presuming Ink qualifies based on Dr. Abaius write up?

The only movie I've seen here is Friday the 13th, and that wasn't very good. If that's your #1 pick, then it must've been an abysmal year for horror indeed…

Paranormal Activity and Orphan should be on this list. Sorority Row was just a hair better than Prom Night, and only because it had gore, it's probably one of the worst films i've seen this year.

I'd have moved Trick 'R Treat to #1… I've always been a big fan of the Creepshow/Amazing Stories style of story telling. I can't really think of any other horror films this year, I tend to avoid them these days as Saw pretty much ruined the future of big budget horror.
