Was the counter argument a joke, or because you didnt have anyone who honestly thought Tarantino wasn't worth the hype? Was this a manufactured debate? Because I'm at a loss for words.

Inglourious Basterds was a remake? End discussion. A remake of what? The nearly same titled film of a completely different plot?

I get bored with his movies, i really liked his first few movies but after a while i could predict what was going to happen in all of the rest. Predictability is not a good trait in a movie. I started to see actual scenes from older movies in his shot for shot.

I'm surprised no one has brought up The French New Wave. I've only seen four new wave films. The 400 Blows, Breathless, Bande A Part(sound familiar?), and Shoot The Piano Player. It's very easy to see that the new wave had a heavy influence on QT. Breathless has some entertaining dialogue that makes many pop culture references. Shoot The Piano Player is a gangster/noir/comedy film that involves two gangsters, some kidnapping, interesting car rides, pop culture references, and more entertaining dialogue. QT borrows heavily from Bande A Part (Band of Outsiders) as well. In fact, there is scene in a RESTAURANT, where they talk about SILENCE in conversations, then get up AND DANCE. The reason I got into French New Wave is because I'm a film major and I saw 400 Blows in a class and it instantly reminded me of QT. I plan on watching a lot more French New Wave, hopefully I won't see other cool scenes from Pulp Fiction in them.

'Pulp Fiction(1994)' and 'Reservior Dogs' were very good (if not great) movies. Not exactly masterpieces. The Brilliant Samuel L. Jackson carried 'Pulp Fiction' throughout on his own shoulders and made it appear as great movie helped by dialogues of Biblical proportions (pun intended).

QT is an amazing filmmaker. Look at his background... high school dropout, worked at a video store, part of the VCR generation, and is probably one of the most passionate filmmakers that doesn't take shit from anyone to change his films to please Hollywood. Many people are in the business for the wrong reasons. They make shitty films, like spoof films, stupid, no point films and were not complaining about that?! At least QT's work is done with passion. Other filmmakers have greatly influenced him, just like Shakespeare has pretty much influenced every great writer! QT, hands down, deserves the hype!

I think the biggest argument that needs to be made, is about how Tarantino has exposed people to new genres and maybe made those people want to look up the films/filmmakers that inspired his movies or reside in the same genres. For me Reservoir Dogs was my entry to indie films and Tarantino's recommendation for Hero inspired me to go out and see more foreign martial arts films, same with Grindhouse and exploitation flicks. So if nothing else QT has inspired some cinephiles to venture out and see films they would normally not come across or know about.

To be frank I would love to think so. But most likely no they do not but I don't want to see the film whereby they simply discuss murdering techniques and robbery tips lol

Sure, film geeks talk like that, but do murderers, thieves, assassins, bank robbers, and general badasses relate to each other through interpretations of modern pop music?

I don't think Pulp Fiction should be brought into a conversation about QT's hype in the context you guys are using, or at least Robert was using, because the whole point of the movie (at least the way I look at it) was to be pop culture references / mindless drivel. That's what the actual term pulp fiction means. To quantify whether or not Tarantino lifts stuff from other movies or not, I just don't think it's fair. To him or Avary. (not that anyone is questioning Avary, but you get what I'm saying.)

Deathproof was garbage. Actually I thought both the Grindhouse movies were garbage.

Deathproof was garbage. Actually I thought both the Grindhouse movies were garbage.

I don’t think Pulp Fiction should be brought into a conversation about QT’s hype in the context you guys are using, or at least Robert was using, because the whole point of the movie (at least the way I look at it) was to be pop culture references / mindless drivel. That’s what the actual term pulp fiction means. To quantify whether or not Tarantino lifts stuff from other movies or not, I just don’t think it’s fair. To him or Avary. (not that anyone is questioning Avary, but you get what I’m saying.)

Well don't we as film geeks talk through pop culture references? So it is in fact real and with things like the madonna big dick story it doesn't move the story it just makes it feel real. In life not all conversations are integral to what we do just so QTs characters seem realer for it.
