From one Landon to another, I agree with you. Are there things that I would change? I think Megan Fox should have wrestled the fembot in some motor oil. But maybe that's just me. I enjoyed it.

I can see your argument, though I still feel it's in poor taste. Like I've been saying, it just feels to me that whoever wrote the characters is immature. That's why I feel racist, because I see what somebody had the thought to do.<br><br>"Hey, see these two Autobots? They're not too important, but they're in a few scenes. Let's scale up their role and make them a bit more hip. Give one a gold tooth, make them talk a bit more 'black', and let's have some fun with this."<br><br>To me, that's wrong and just in poor taste. I feel as though people think I feel racist from a more audience aimed perspective. No, no, people eat that shit up. It's why they added it. Like I said, it's more of a creative thing, that I see and don't understand why it needed to be done that way.<br><br>Plus, to add to the Observe and Report statement. I loved your review and agreed on many points. I actually ended up loving the movie for how different it pushed to be and found the darkness pretty funny. It turned a lot of my friends off and many people I know saw the racism and dickness of Seth Rogen's character off-putting. I feel as though that racism has an edge of ignorance though. Ronnie is set-up as cocky, asshole, who chases his dreams in his own way. I feel like Jody does that with Foot Fist Way too. The racist scene just pushes that thought into our head that, "Wow, this guys a dick. This is ridiculous though. How could you do that?"

I think Adam's whole paragraph about how racist the film was, including the phrase "fire curse words like it’s a glock," is far more racist than anything in the film. Or are you allowed to be funny and satirical? Is it ok for you to do it? There are a few things wrong with your racism argument - number one, only one robot has a gold tooth and he has a singular gold tooth. Plenty of other films have depicted characters with gold teeth. I assume they must all be burned in a fire worthy of Nazi Germany. Secondly - the robots are not illiterate. They might not be able to read Cybertonian, but no one making this critique can apparently listen. The two robots, who are clearly juvenile and immature, say they don't read much. They identify the language as a long lost one that they can't read. No one in the movie could read it other than the Primes. That's like me putting down three documents on a table and asking you to pick out Sumatran Cuneforms from Sanskrit and Aramaic and then asking you to read it. When you can't, I call you illiterate.<br><br>I find it laughable though somewhat disheartening that a film that uses Spongebob Squarepants as the voice for an immature, juvenile character is being hammered as "racist" while a film like Observe & Report that features blatant, on the page racism from the protagonist and dozens of other comedies that point at 'middle America' (a favorite target of many writers, even on this site) and ridicule them. It's the same hate, though apparently that's all good.

Haha, agreed. I guess my perspective wasn't fair either, seeing as how my theater had like a 40 minute delay with the reel. As I was about to leave, the movie kicked on, so I just took it for longer. Plus, with previews and all, I just round it up.

So, I take it you watched in IMAX and didn't mind the switching between native and widesceen? I think it's a cop-out. I paid for Dark Knight in IMAX, but after reading, I don't see the point in paying for this. I mean aside from my dislike of the film.

I guess I see what you mean about treating it differently. There's plenty of action movies to laugh at already though. And I feel as though I shouldn't have to. I loved the first movie for what it was, it didn't need special glasses to watch. It was a good summer blockbuster with good action, sweet car chases and some narrative. Even people who thought the bot fights were poorly choreographed enjoyed it. Why should this be any different?

I suppose I can at least be thankful this movie didn't set-up a third film.

It's not that the movie pokes fun Kangaroo, it's that it just seems idiotic how it portrays those characters (Mudflap and ... whatever the hell). A few of the bots are stupid, sure, and some of the characters have whatever comments they have. But, not only are the Autobot twins stupid, they don't like to read, they have big ears, gold teeth, look monkeyish, and they never in one instance say something that's not ebonically charged. If it was only one or two of those things, I would look past. Everytime those two characters were on-screen though whoever was controlling what they said and how they looked felt the need to push all of it in my face at once.

Call me racist, call me crass. I don't give a shit. Even a friend of mine who's black didn't see anything wrong. I see bad decision making though and regardless of looking past all this and pretending it's ok, I still feel the way I do. To be fair though, the only last extreme of this I could see, that would actually make people open their eyes is if they made Mudflap shine Optimus' shoes or something. Honestly. And even then, people would still say, "Oh, I don't get it... What's racist? Any color person can shine shoes..."

Who cares about the pros and cons of Michael Bay's latest fiasco known as ROTF. Both Adam and Landon's diatribes for and against the latest TRANSFORMER'S film had me rolling with both laughter and tears!!!! I admit that I tend to lean towards Adam's take on this weaker sequel to the whole TRANSFORMER'S fiasco. This film seemed so much more bloated on all levels, fighting, female and frivolity that I came out of the film with visual and aural digestion!!! If I had to compromise my critical "eye" as were to enjoy the film then maybe, just maybe I might understand the polemics of Landon Palmer's arguments. At most, down the proverbial pike I might eventually see this as one's "guilty-pleasure" as it were, should one wish to justify 'looking the other way' with regard to too much critical judgement for the sake of finding this film just "fast-food" without any substancial substance. Bottom-Line: The criticism both pro and con are more entertaining than the actual film itself. Thanks for the entertaining discourse.

I admit that I tend to lean towards Adam’s take on this weaker sequel to the whole TRANSFORMER’S fiasco. This film seemed so much more bloated on all levels, fighting, female and frivolity that I came out of the film with visual and aural digestion!!! If I had to compromise my critical “eye” as were to enjoy the film then maybe, just maybe I might understand the polemics of Landon Palmer’s arguments. At most, down the proverbial pike I might eventually see this as one’s “guilty-pleasure” as it were, should one wish to justify ‘looking the other way’ with regard to too much critical judgement for the sake of finding this film just “fast-food” without any substancial substance. Bottom-Line: The criticism both pro and con are more entertaining than the actual film itself. Thanks for the entertaining discourse.

To answer your question, there is not one instance where the film pokes fun at blacks, primarily in regards to the twin robots. Every race (White, Black, Asian, etc.) has a small quantity of poor and uneducated, but racial sensitivity towards the African-American community has reached a peak, clearly due to the massive amount of publicity that 'gangster' rappers and hip-hop artists get by emphasizing illiteracy. You think that, because I'm white, I get angry when I'm stereotypically categorized as 'nerdy'? Of course not, since it's not that big of a deal. This entire idea of racism in ROTF has been blown out of proportion, and everyone (white or black) needs to learn not to be so quickly offended by something as minuscule as this.

Great shouting match, but Landon, your argument that anybody over twelve will not take this film seriously, unfortunately, isn't true. I am a junior in high school, and most of my friends thoughts on the movie are: "Oh my God it was so good! Its so funny! The story was really great! And I love the characters!"

It's supposed to be a big, dumb, epic movie full of Megan Fox, badass robots fighting, and alot of explosions.<br><br>Instead, it's too stupid and cheesy for it's own good, and I find myself wishing I had taken my money and used it for something better.<br><br>There wasn't enough action, and when there was, it was not that great. Too much was wrong with this film for me to sit back and relax and not question the Michael-Bay esque shit that was before me.

The racism charge is unfounded. When does the film poke fun at blacks? The twin robots? Clearly all blacks sound like that and Michael Bay and co. wanted to make that loud and clear. Adam, I hate to break it to you but you tacitly claim in your opening argument that poor African Americans have those stereotypes. That's a little racist, isn't it? I also feel that in the future you will appeal to popularity when you defend your claim that ROTF "will be known as one of most disappointing blockbuster films of any summer" and that "no amount of money can hide that truth".
