Well, it's been a year since this “debate” occurred and Zack & Miri is now out on DVD. Having seen it in the theater and now owning it, I can say I think Katie Morgan has more than proved her bona fides as an actress. She was excellent in her (non-sapphic, fully-clothed) scene with Elizabeth Banks, showing not only real talent but a command of the craft. In short, I see her in these kind of supporting roles in the future, in comedies or even comic action movies, like the coming “Shoot The Hero” looks to be. You go girl!

Sam makes a valid point about how much of the crossover appeal depends on that ever thin line between celebrities and porn stars. Yes, there is a “prestige” market for plot-driven porn for the couples trade and industry awards. Too much of the gonzo categories dispense with scripts and even the cheezy music.

Traci Lords is probably an outlier given her controversial relationship with the adult industry. Director Kevin Smith admits that he was going for some stunt casting for Traci and initially thought she would refuse because she continues to distance herself from her porn past. But as several folks point out, she has remained busy.

Katie Morgan could be another exception. I too have watched too much porn and recall how Ed Powers admitted that he kept turning her down. She persisted and got an agent. Obviously, she is very shrewd and has shown talent for managing her post-porn career. (And her link is why I am here.) I may express skepticism about her IQ score, but I cannot argue with her resume with the HRO work and now the mainstream role.

I’ll be the third to point out that Katie Morgan has an IQ of 165. I just watched that HBO interview last night. Considering she links to this site from hers (probably increasing your traffic tenfold), I’d think you’d be nicer to her. ;)

Okay, I will admit that i’m no stranger to the adult film world.

That being said I think there are some beautiful girls in that biz who would probably have a career in the “mainstream” if they didn’t go into porn.

Granted, they’re probably not going to be doing MacBeth, but gals like Carmen Electra have gotten very far guest starring as the token hot girl on some sitcom.

Traci Lords was the strongest argument, yes. However, I’m not sure why Rob was saying she didn’t move past the confines of Rosanne. Don’t get me wrong, she hasn’t necessarily had much commercial success since then, but she’s been busy. I don’t remember if First Wave was any good, but as most televised sci-fi, even if it’s half good, she’s probably got a cult following (who may not know about her being an underage porn star). I wouldn’t dismiss her so easily. That and if you’re going to bring up Katie Morgan in Zack & Miri, you should probably mention Lords there as well.

I doubt it’ll make any difference having porn stars cross over. They aren’t famous for their acting, and more than likely whatever film they did that week for Reality Kings whatever is probably a lot more “interesting” then watching them deliver lines awkwardly. I guess you could flip this around and say that Ron Jeremy was pretty awesome in Boondock Saints as a cameo, but that was more of a “Hey sweet, that’s fucking Ron Jeremy” than anything else.
