It's a moral imperative that real Genuis NOT be remade! (Sorry, I couldn't help myself.)

RE: Princess Bride - Sacred Ground, do not mess with the Dread Pirate Roberts and Princess Buttercup.

RE: Labyrinth - I was actually thinking this was a film that some director would eye up as a remake. I can his interview at San Diego Comic Con now, "The effects are so much more advanced than when they made the original in the 80's. It's a greta film, don't get me wrong, but with modern effects technology we can make it better....."

Man a remake of Sixteen Candles would be hilarious, think about which lame stars they would cast now. Or a Breakfast Club remake with 20 year olds passing off to be in their teens.
But some films would just be funny to see who they would cast, not saying I approve but if someone tried hard enough and and it had a good solid cast, I wouldn't complain.

Real Genius is one of my favorite movies, Its so easy to see the same humor by Kilmer in this movie as he used in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang." I remember taping this on vhs on some channel when I was younger and now I own it on DVD and any chance I get I try and force people to borrow it. But as for a remake, I really hope not, remaking The Karate Kid is going far enough as to remove the nostalgia from my childhood, next thing i know they will be remaking "Rad" (possibly the awesomest movie ever) and Jeremiah Johnson (my father used to force me to watch this monthly as a child for about nine straight years.)

I could go for a Mad Max remake... I've never been a big fan of the original, perhaps I need to rewatch it but the latter 2 have always been favorites of mine. I'm surprised Labyrinth is on the list but not The Never Ending Story.

Point taken, and I am duly impressed, and being wrong will teach me not to get cranky and pedantic. I've read in several places people wondering where the title of that movie comes from, and I always think, "Have you seen that movie? Like the first scene or two? Where everybody is singing?" I'm Catholic myself, but that hymn is in pretty much every filmed C of E service I've ever seen.

As for 80's remakes, I vote for (or against?) "Dragnet," because nothing could be a better symbol of Hollywood's lack of imagination than a crappy remake of a crappy remake of a crappy tv show.

Not to quibble either! But the hymn you're thinking of is Jerusalem, and it was adapted from the William Blake poem "And did those feet in ancient time" (written in 1804 and set to music as a hymn in 1916). It's also sung extensively in episodes of Monty Python. Thanks for allowing me the chance to show off my bombastic 19th century British poetry knowledge. I almost never get to do that sort of thing around here. Huzzah!

Not to quibble, but Chariots of Fire did not get its title from a William Blake Poem, it got its title from a lyric in "Green and Pleasant Land," a hymn of the Church of England, which is sung in the opening scene in the movie. Its an iconic hymn, and has been referenced in literature by, amongst others, William Blake.
