Hey, I was in that! An extra in the crowd scenes, at least. As a Canadian it was a new experience to chant "USA! USA!" at the top of my lungs. Regardless, I need to watch this one again.

Back in 1980 I watched this Olympics from start to finish. I remember when the U.S. Hockey team started building momentum towards the gold and watching those last couple of games riveted to the TV set.

I'll be honest that I've avoided pretty much anything to do with the Miracle On Ice team since then. I can't imagine any documentary or movie capturing that moment the way I remember it. I think your review might just have changed my mind. This sounds like a film to watch, thanks for posting the review.

Neil, I officially love you for writing this. As a fan of hockey and film, I was always chagrined by the fact that "Slapshot" was the common ground for my two passions by default. Then came "Miracle." Thank God. It's great to see it recognized finally. I remember back when ESPN was celebrating its 25th anniversary with all their Top 25 lists, the miracle on ice was listed as the #1 sports moment of all time, but "Miracle" wasn't even included on the list of top 25 sports movies. WTF? I certainly think it deserves more recognition and in my humble opinion, is a better film than the film they ranked at #1 - "Hoosiers."

I wrote my own little piece about it. I'd greatly appreciate you checking it out.
http://www.zoom-in.com/blog/film-tv/jim-rohner/...

This may be my favorite pure sports film of all-time. I never understood the capacity of the moment until I watched the documentary about the event on HBO. After that I watched the film and felt like how I can only imagine everyone else in the country must have felt as they watched it happen live. To be able to recreate an emotional response out of the audience as if they were actually watching the game play out back in 1980 is probably the greatest compliment I could pay to the filmmaker.

I didn't think there was a way that FSR could dig up more love from me, but you TOTALLY have tapped into a new cavern of love for you guys by highlighting my FAVORITE sports movie of ALL-TIME! Thank you Neil for reminding me to go home and pop this one in after work. Forget Remember The Titans, forget Hoosiers, forget The Natural, give me Miracle every time.
