Youre all jaded, get off of Romeros "Oh the zombie world parallels the injustices in the real world" wagon. Please. The Zombie genre was old a dated until films like 28 days later and Zach's film came along. Im a Zombie lover with the rest of you Ive seen Lucio Fulci's films Zombi and the seven doors of death, ive watched J.R. Bookwalter's the dead next door, and The Return of the Living Dead series and I could go on and on. Romero era zombie films stuck to a dying and boring formula until these guys made it fun and relevant again. Im sorry these new directors dont over anthropomorphize Zombies like Romero did in an attempt to send a message to the world about human nature but these new directors are far more broad in their attempts to showcase human interaction in a end of the world scenario. You guys probably also think that the walking dead was a terrible comicbook series because "Romero and Savini" weren't involved. Move on people! We all know Romero started the modern Zombie genre but cant we throw a new coat of paint on this without all of you fanboys crying every time a zombie movie doeskin credit George Romero for his work?

Sweet, Dawn of the Dead is a complete peace of shit and the fact that you put it on the a list of the best in the decade, let alone claim it's your favorite zombie movie shows me you have no right to make a list like this at all. Who are you? Where you just bored when you made this list? Either way I hope this isn't your actual job.

I love the list and think you've done an excellent job, thanks for making sure it's international. My only comments would be to extend it to top 20, a more rounded number, and include one or two more Asian horrors - possibly Battle Royale, Dark Water, The Ring, Vampire Hunter D or Blood: The Last Vampire, also Night Watch, The Orphanage and 30 Days of Night should have been in and definitely 100% Antichrist!!!!

)Really I would agree with you on the Dawn of the Dead remake if not for a few things that ruin the movie for me. 1) Zombie baby 2) When the zombie gunshop owner writes his blood on the board and shows it to them 3) Legless zombie jumping from the ceiling in the parking garage 4) During the credits when it shows the video there is a head in the tackle box of the fishing boat. I realize some of them could have been done for fun but it didn't play off well for me and that's why I prefer the original

Notice that I never said anything about writing Martyrs off because it was brutally violent. I also never said anything about Martyrs being too brutal to women. Surely if I had a problem with brutal violence I would be against both of my suggestions as well as The Descent, which has its share of (pools of) blood.

I cannot deny the acting in Martyrs is far superior to Hostel. I don't know why it is, but foreign filmmakers also take the horror genre more seriously as its reflected in performances. But where we disagree is on the idea that Martyrs had a point whereas Hostel didn't. Martyrs had a point, but one that also seemed to nullify itself at the end. It was almost nihilistic. Hostel had a point as well and I think it's more than just the paying to murder people plot. Hostel had social commentary - specifically commentary on American ignorance and to a lesser extent, I think, the numbness brought on by excessive greed.

I admire when a film can add that subtle layer on top of the plot and that's why I dug Hostel as more than just a blood and guts film.

I thought The Signal was really interesting. I totally understand that the tonal shifts could be very off putting, I know I felt that way when it first occured, but after I accepted and rolled with it, I wound up really enjoying it all in all. It reminded me of Shaun of the Dead in a way, where it managed to incorporate all those different tones. Another movie I'd mention that gave me the same kind of impression was Severance.
