Robert, don't feel bad about slamming Fox - they ARE the worst offender in this regard. The only network I watch that does not do this is NBC - I haven't seen a single rerun of Heroes yet.

And get this: did you guys see the Osbourne's variety show? I didn't, because our local Fox affiliate decided it was inappropriate for prime-time viewing, and moved it to midnight. They instead showed local anchors reviewing Kansas City's 20 years of football. I kid you not. Fox national responded by refusing to allow any interviews of the Osbournes for publicity. Way to go, idiots.

I am tired of trying to figure out when new episodes will air. Fringe, is a particular sore spot for me as it is one of the few shows that has come out in the last few years that I really enjoy. The way that Fox treats shows is as if they are trying to tank them by decreasing viewership via split scheduling. That and the fact that Fox still thinks that god-awful American Idol 's schedule should take precedence over anything in their lineup.

I have resorted to watching new episodes on websites such as Hulu which I absolutely hate since I just bought a big screen TV a little over a year ago.

You don't see this kind of crap with reality shows. Why? They're inexpensive to make.

When they randomly insert reruns into scripted shows, they can extend a "new" season much longer. I'd bet money they get more viewers per rerun during a "new" season.

They're sacrificing consistency for viewership, and they know it. They opt not to with reality shows because they're cheap to begin with.

I have been increasingly frustrated this season with all the "breaks" that shows have had this year. Hell, if it wasn't for my DVR recording the shows I would forget when to watch because networks aren't always showing reruns. I am particularly annoyed with Fox who promised that we'd get 11 episodes of Bones in a row and then after two new episodes it was off for a week, what gives?? Ugly Betty has been gone for two weeks and I don't remember ANOTHER break being announced. I'm to the point where I'm ceasing to care about what is on the big networks.

See - the only stations that don't do that at all (to my knowledge) are the premiums. When you expect a new episode of Dexter or Weeds or True Blood, it's going to come on. The trade off there is that the premiums don't have a set scheduling season, they create new seasons whenever they want, so it could be more than a year between seasons. But that seems like a small price to pay for regularity. Especially with shows that have people hooked every week.

And wasn't that the original point with serials? Get the audience on the edge of their seat, talking about episodes until the next week when they finally get to see a bit more of the story?

Man, I hate agreeing with you, Fure.

Another reason I don't watch a lot of regular TV these days. The shows are getting more and more lack luster and whenever I try to catch an episode its always a rerun I didn't like in the first place.

I whole heatedly agree. I was questioning whether shows had seasons anymore, and instead, studios opted for just "NEW EPISODES" as to not front the money per season, but per ... whenever the hell they felt like it. Could be the economy, could be someone dicking with our emotions. Either way, it stinks and needs to stop. (Had Dexter done that, I would of died -- I almost died during the year wait of BSG).
