The point is, when her man leaves her she engages in incredibly reckless and self destructive behavior, to the point that she... jumps off a fucking cliff.

And God is she bland... That applies to most the characters though.

People need to get over all the, "I hate Twilight," crap and grow up.

Personally, I couldn't care less about Twlight. I'm appauled at the weekend gross. However, I'm not appauled because its Twilight, I'm appauled because its a bad movie. It's a bad movie that made HUGE box office and guarantees we'll more more crap films.

Before you ask, I'm just as appauled at Transformers I and II. Another pair of crap films that ensure that quality films are ignored. (Did Moon, The Hurt Locker and Brothers Bloom make in their entire run what either Transformers or Twlight made in one day? I doubt it.)

If folks go to the theater, great. I couldn't care less what films are made as long as those films are good. Can Hollywood make good films for girls/women? I think so. The Devil Wears Prada, 500 Days Of Summer and God knows The Princess Bride all fall into the "Chick Flick" catagory and all of them are great films. I don't recall anyone screaming they would not cover those films for any reason and I'll bet that if the Princess Bride were remade (Heaven help us if that ever happens. I'm just making an anology so roll with it please.) that it would be a hit at Comic Con. No one would be screaming about all the fan girls who would turn out for that panel, would they?

More power to twilight fans, and girls finally having something to go fangirl crazy. Just don't be so quick to judge and think this matieral is just harm less fun. Again like Reebee said, It's good vs evil usually in our fanboy movies.

Agreed again sir! Young girls can be very manipluated and follow any crazy thought that comes into their head. I have to agree with the points Reebee and Carl have made about bella and her dependency on Edward. Little girls EAT THIS SHIT UP and like most fanboys or fangirls, can take this material to heart. Get to involve into the lore. Should the parents be monitoring their children? Yes. Should a kid know right from wrong? Yes. A parent can't watch and protect every thing their child does.

I don't think Twilight movie hurts anyone. There are movie far worse than Twilight. Again, it depends on how people see the movie, I personally hate Twilight for obvious reasons but there are people who are huge fans of this movie. Everyone has a right to insult or appreciate a movie, in other words, everyone has a right to state their opinion of any movie.

I don't think Twilight would affect the way most girls think or would mislead them. I am guessing they are all watching it just for fun/entertainment. No one believes everything they see in a movie ... if they do, they are just stupid.

"Hurting" perhaps isn't the right word. But I've had numerous conversations who think it's the best romance of all time.

That doesn't "hurt" them, exactly. It's just a ridiculous, but common, sentiment.

If so many people are concerned with Twilight "hurting" our youths, I can't imagine what you same people think of Crank, Grand Theft Auto, Friday the 13th, and rock and roll. Seriously. Twilight makes 25 year olds act like 50s era grandfathers. You're grasping at straws.

Thank you. It chaffs me on how much hate this franchise gets. No, it's not super fantastic, but seriously this movie is no worst than a shitty RomCom that also give an unrealistic view of love or relationships.

Great article, and spot on. People are wasting way too much energy complaining about it. Just put up with it and move on. Girls will always like things that are confusing to guys, and vice versa.

I'm rather tired of this the argument that she tires to kill herself. She doesn't try to kill herself. She chose to jump off the cliff for the adrenaline rush. When she does something reckless she hears Edward's voice. She never ever intended to kill herself she gets caught in the tides of the water, which is why she almost drowns before Jacob pulls her free.

Oh and you know what teenage girls will date lots of different guys and have different emotionally dependent relationships with their boyfriends despite this book. It's been happening for ages and will continue to happen with or without reading Twilight. It's part of growing up. Bella isn't the strongest person, but she does have a mind of her own and she does stick up for herself. I don't recommend her as a role model, but she does represent the insecurities and emotional angst many teenage girls experience.

I'm not crazy about the 'it's not hurting' anyone philosophy. As someone said, it gives some horrible ideals about love and relationships that impressionable teens are just gobbling up. And there's this... mania about the Twihards that surpass the others. When mothers are asking 17 year old boys to sign their panties, there's something strange there. And that's not that isolated of an incident, the stars have spoken many times on the lunacy of the fanbase. We can't compare it entirely to Star Wars or Indiana Jones, just because they also have a loyal following.

What I think this is more akin to is Transformers 2, for females. It's thoughtless, garbage entertainment made solely to entertain. And that's FINE, by all means, be entertained. Except people LIVE for this shit, and act crazy about it, and take life lessons they shouldn't. And you're exactly right, that isn't really Twilight's fault, it has every right to exist and be made. It's that people watch Twilight and see more in it than there actually is.

Indiana Jones and Star Wars and Star Trek are movies about Good vs. Evil, the morals are crystal clear and universally true. Twilight tries to deal with emotions of the human heart and comes out with this perversion of what love is and should be. But again, it should be made and watched for entertainment purposes, it just saddens me that something so thoughtless could be so wildly beloved.

The dollar votes have been cast, however, and it's going to make a lot of money. I just hope people recognize what they're watching. As to webpage coverage, every blog should cover it, because this is huge news. And fanboys shouldn't bash it because a lot of people are going to see it, but because of what people have turned it into.

Twilight is rated PG-13. The 9-12 year olds should have a parent with them. I don't think any movie critic has the job of telling you what to watch based on the moral implications of its story. If children are being hurt by Twilight, it would be because their parents let them watch it, not because the movie existed.

Woah there buddy, perhaps Twilight is hurting someone.

There are a number of themes and messages played out in the novel and on-screen that are potentially damaging to a young mind. Lines like "You're exactly my brand of heroin" aren't catered to the 9-14 age group, as a for-instance. The hollow main character, Bella Swan (yeah, her name means Beautiful Swan), shows signs of neediness and masochism. The "love" she's involved in is based on co-dependency to the point that when Edward leaves, she tries to kill herself by jumping off a cliff. Twilight isn't as clean and innocent as you make it out to be.

But by all means, give it the attention it deserve, just take it upon yourselves to give it educated coverage.

I hadn't thought that people refusing to write about it were just pandering to people that hate it. The fact that you thought of something I hadn't is really, really bothersome.
