Boiling Point: Stand Up? Sit down.

vaughncomedy01.jpgTwo hours of stand up comedy is not a film. It’s like a home movie with a really nice camera. Watching recorded standup is like listening to “Live” albums – which is dumb. And they’re not live anymore. They’re just poor recordings.

Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Tour can suck my nut. So can any stand up ‘movie’ ever that is called The _________ of _________. Sorry Kings (Kaaaangs) of Comedy. Sorry Comedians of Comedy and sorry whatever that one was about fat chicks and comedy. Now I fucking love the Comedians of Comedy, despite myself, because those dudes are funny. But I will never pay to watch that in a theater.

Now I don’t care if you watch this shit on DVD or Comedy Central, but wasting spots in my cineplex when I demand one more screen of Step It Up 2: The Streets? How dare you. I probably wouldn’t have cared about this phenomenon if it wasn’t for all those fucking ________ of ________ fucking movies. Seriously. It’s like a remake or something. Different jokes, different faces, same title, more or less. Bah. Who goes to see this shit in the theaters anyway? DL Hughley get the fuck back on the small screen, this does not count as an acting credit.

There is no real creative input into this. Yes, there are jokes. But just the jokes these fuckers tell on a daily basis. It’s not new. If you’ve seen them perform you’ve already seen the movie. There is no camera work, no plot, no script, nothing of cinematic value. These are not films. Fuck they’re not even documentaries. There is no effort put into these things. These are the reality TV of movies, but with even less effort.

I’m probably alone on this one. You all probably fucking loooove standup and want to see it on the big screen for some sort of experience – well fuck that, go see it live for a real experience. Me? I’ll be watching Step It Up 2: The Streets because at least that had a cinematographer. So go ahead and rail away on me, on this. I want to know why people pay $14 to see recorded stand up because I’m just past my boiling point with this lazy, repetitive, poorly titled home movie shit.
