I’d argue that maybe there will be more mainstream movies that could feature pornstars in our future. If you look at Zack And Miri (which was mostly terrible btw), the pornstars in it are playing pornstars and/or strippers. Similar with Sasha Grey in that new Soderbergh movie as she is playing a prostitute. I’m surprised no one has mentioned that rumored Tera Patrick casting in some new terrible movie he’s involved in. Then there’s also the rumored Jenna Jameson biopic (too soon, if ever at all). My point is that pornstars probably aren’t going to be playing roles that are anything other than pornstars/strippers/prostitutes.

Is it possible pornstars will be featured more prominently in mainstream nonporn stuff? Absolutely. But will they be competing with Angelina Jolie for roles? No way. Porn has just become more accepted.

Of course I’m being cartoonish, but the whole thing is. The Los Angeles times said that “porn stars are the new crossover artists.” Mmk.

As for the role of real sex in film, I don’t mind when they’re faking it. Penetrative sex and graphic sex doesn’t really have a spot in most movies anyway. I think real sex is mostly a gimmick in movies that use it, other than awesome pornos.

I don’t think anyone’s calling it a revolution, and if they are, that’s ridiculous. But it is a trend, a fad that does have the possibility of gaining traction.

I’m actually more interested in this point at the trend of having actors in mainstream films actually have sex during sex scenes. Brown Bunny was horrible, but Short Bus is a great example. It blurs the line between what’s simulated, what’s real, what’s pornographic, and what’s mainstream.

I’ll wait to see how Sasha Grey does with Soderbergh, but ultimately, I think you’re characterizing the situation really cartoonishly. Assuming that porn actors will stumble through crappy films isn’t giving much credence to the reality of the trend.
