Boiling Point: Attention Whoring

Boiling Point: Attention Whores

The media loves to point out who is whoring for attention, which is hypocritically hysterical.  Just because Lindsay Lohan is out there doing something stupid, saying something stupid, or being stupid, doesn’t mean you have to cover it.  The media knows exactly why people like LiLo (who the hell gave her that stupid name?  Oh yeah) do what they do – attention.  And how does the media respond?  By giving them attention.

As the old saying goes “No press is bad press,” and that is exactly what these celebri-whores want, any amount of press coverage to stop themselves from being forgotten.  Please – stop writing your comments now, pointing out that me pointing out that the media, pointing out the celeb-whoring is actually – … You know where I’m going.  Yes, this could be hypocritical.  But I am an entertainment writer, not a news desk anchor, and I work at an entertainment website, not a news agency.  So let me say this and say it once.  Stop paying attention to attention whores. No one is going to buy a paper or subscribe to a website just because you’re dishing the trash on some stupid celebrity.  You know, you’d probably make more of a splash by announcing that you’d never cover a certain celeb again.  That’d be cool.  Yeah, some sites report only on this stuff – great.  I’m laying aim and blame on “news” agencies that are reporting this same crap.

I’m tired of turning on the news and seeing 8 minutes devoted to celebrity “news.”  What the hell, man?  There is an entire world of news going on and I’m not sure, but I think there might be an election.  Announcing someone’s career in the tank is pointless – I think we can gather that ourselves when we realize that the only time we hear about a celebrity is when you’re telling us how they’re only doing things to get our attention.  If someone like Lohan got no coverage for being a drunk failure, we’d all have forgotten about her by now.  Looking at her IMDb, she hasn’t made a film worth watching since Mean Girls.  She should be, by now, one of those actresses you remember once a year and say “Whatever happened to…?”

It’s a good thing news agencies are referred to as “the media” because they have long ago stopped reporting on news.  They are now a faceless business entity, pumping out worthless words.  This is a system out of control, struggling to find some sort of relevant foot hold in the gossip industry – something that is the exact opposite of what news is supposed to be.  If you want celebrity gossip, there are plenty of trashtastic sites out there that will give you fix, but please, can any news outlet out there try to regain some respect and credibility by reporting news rather than trashy gossip.  Please!  Just stop reporting on these non-issues!  I’m tired of reading all this celebri-crap in my news outlets and all this bullshit about failed celebri-whores has sent me soaring past my boiling point.

Who is your most hatred celebri-whore?

Is it just me, or, is anybody here already getting sick and tired of Anne Hathaway? I swear she's one hot piece of a$$, but the fact that she's whoring herself, and everybody kissing her @$$ just because of what going on with her & her ex. She just whores her personal problems no reason, or, to promote her movie and she waste no time doing it.

Same goes for Michelle Williams. Are we suppose to like them because of their work, and talents, or, because of their personal problems!?!?!?

Celebrities should never be heard from unless:

1.) They have some new material coming out

    or

2.) Starring in the world's most awesome amateur sex tape, which would be Beyonce, Jessica Alba, Halle Berry, Angelina Jolie and Kate Beckinsale getting it on with some no-holds-barred hot girl/girl action.

Also, you shouldn't be considered a "celebrity" if:

1.) Your only claim to fame is that your parents are stinkin' rich (Looking right at you, Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian)

2.) You've played the role of human mattress so much, there's a Serta tag on the back of your neck (Looking at you again, ladies)

3.) Slept with Hugh Hefner or 50 Cent (Who hasn't?)

No one subscribes to gossip websites? ORLY? I'm pretty sure PerezHilton makes good money. He appears on reality shows, has a potential deal with Warner, does hosting gigs and not to mention his ad network on his website reaches millions.

"No one is going to buy a paper or subscribe to a website just because you’re dishing the trash on some stupid celebrity."

Unfortunately, a lot of people do... Sad world in which we live in where most people are more interested in drunken ex-celebrities than electoral issues... :-(

I feel bad about Jennifer Hudson's dilemma, but I don't care. I don't care about Kanye's vision of an "absolut" world (reference to his YouTube ads) and I don't care about who Matt Damon is "campaigning for" this election. He's a fricken actor, not a political analyst.

If anyone is going to listen to Matt-freakin-Damon, they should do the world a favor and kill themselves.

    Sorry.

I'm in the same boat as you, Robert. I tune into the news to see actual news that effects my life, or the world around me. Celebs don't effect me in the least bit. I don't give a damn if some celeb is shilling for Obama, or which child star just wrote a book... I'd like to actually know something that may make me more knowledgable in world events, or issues with the upcoming election.

Sadly, you're not going to get that. The USA has turned into the United States of Entertainment, and the media fell right in line with the memo.

    my most hated celebri-whore?

Britney Spears!...One-hit wonder. She will never never never ever recapture the days of Hit Me Baby One More Time. That song and the corresponding video made her look soooo innocent. Now..she's lost it. No amount of makeup can take away the shaved head ugliness of yesteryear. Her new single is also s**t!

Ive had enough of the whole "britney is back" bs.
