However, I did read an interview with the director who said that he was merely drawing from real-life experiences from contemporary South Africa that may not be pleasant for people (in countries where such stereotyping is un-PC) to see. During the film, I kept thinking, maybe he could have changed it to a mythical cultural group, but I guess, to the director, it would have not been his reality. If you walked away from D-9 feeling offended then I just think you missed the whole point of the film. This was a brilliant film and was perfectly done.
