In Honor of the Universal Day of the Jedi

As many of you already know (mostly because Kevin Carr wrote about it a few days ago), May 25th is the Universal Day of the Jedi, a day celebrated by Star Wars fans all over the world, as it is the anniversary of the release of Star Wars Episode IV, A New Hope. Yes, 31 years ago to the day George Lucas unleashed Star Wars unto the world, a film franchise that would forever change the face of both film and pop culture. It launched the careers of men like Harrison Ford, who just this weekend saw his own triumphant return to another iconic franchise with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and brought film into another era — the era of the blockbuster.

And in honor of this Universal Day of the Jedi, I would like to take this edition of the Editor’s Blog to show you something Star Wars related that I found to be beyond cool, so much so that it transcends our usual “Officially Cool” banner to become something else entirely. Those who spend their time online are familiar with the concept of a 365 project, usually consisting of a photo project that is updated once per day for an entire year. We have seen all kinds of these projects, mostly featuring people taking pictures of themselves over the course of a year and putting them together at the end to make a cool video showing their own personal progression.

This is one of those projects, but it isn’t exactly the same kind of 365 project that you may have seen other places. It comes to from a Flickr user named icedsoul from Cologne, Germany. His project involves a camera and four Storm Trooper Lego figures who follow him around all day, only to find themselves photographed in odd situations. It is positively one of the most creative and fun 365 projects that I have ever encountered, and it is called .:troopies365.

I have included a few of my favorite installments (with their respective captions) below:

“no idea what you are…”
“…talking about.”
“I swear to you sir! It was here… the landspeeder became a droid and when he saw me it ran away!!!”
“what you mean by became? shapeshifted?”
“whatever you want to call it…!”
“the landspeeder became alive, a droid, saw you and ran away and disappeared within this loading bay… of course… this makes sense. you gonna go and check with dr. zarkov and then get sme sleep.”
“sir I swear it was heeeere… theeere must beee more thaaaan meeeets theeeee eyeeeeeee!!!”

“listen up…”
“… this must be the cults hideout. they think they can hide behind this utterly stupid logo. you have to be really careful! I can’t stress enough how dangerous they are!!!”
“are you serious?”
“you have no idea… behind this cute little apple is a really hard and ruthless machinery that tries to turn peoples heads from our great empire! we have to stop them! their leader is this jobs!”
“jobs? he has another one also besides cult leader?”
“shut it you mo.. eh… jobs is his name! so focus and lets hit them hard! lets make the emperor proud!”

“sir I am finished sir”…
“good. clean your selves up and report to the emperor immediately.”
“Sir do you really think the rebel alliance will for for these decoy containers?”
“ensign you should worry about yourself not falling anywhere… leave the rest to us!”
