Marvel’s first fully animated feature film Ultimate Avengers, is based on the Ultimate comic series featuring the likes of Captain America, Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, Giant Man, The Wasp, and the Black Widow.
The Film
In the search for a super soldier, Captain America, the only specimen to survive the super soldier serum experiments is lost forever. The government department of S.H.I.E.L.D. is on a search to find Captain America’s body for analysis. Captain America survives during the 60 years he has been missing, because he was frozen in an ice burg, but the world is much different now. When a crisis arises and heroes are in need, Nick Fury the commander of S.H.I.E.L.D. deploys the greatest team ever assembled…The Avengers. The team of superheroes not only has enemy forces from beyond, but also within their own walls.
The Extras
There is a pretty cool DVDROM feature that helps you take your own characteristics and matches you up to another Marvel Hero. I was most comparable to Ant Man…WHAT THE HELL?!? Marvel also includes a feature that shows the nationwide voice talent search that was conducted to find the best voice actors for the film.
The Delivery
The film features crisp and beautiful animation. The audio mix was definitely a focus, you can tell some care was taken into it.
The Final Cut
If you are a comic book fan, you must own this movie. If you do not own this movie, you are a faker. I liked it, even though it was short. They are working on sequels and other ideas for more Ultimate titles.
The Upside:
Comic Book fans dream. Great sound and animation.
The Downside:
Average plot.
On the Side:
Mark Hamill was a voice actor in this film, and does the voice of the Joker for the Batman animated series.
Making the Grade:
The Film: C+
The Extras: A
The Delivery: B-
Overall: B+
