I’m Kevin Carr, and this is your DVD Rundown for February 5, 2008.
THE FIVE BEST DVD RELEASES OF THE WEEK
5. Elizabeth: The Golden Age

First up is Elizabeth: The Golden Age. If you didn’t get enough of Cate Blanchett as the virgin queen, here’s the sequel. Elizabeth looks faaaaaabulous in her gowns as she fights off rogue suitors and the Spanish Armada.
4. Snow Buddies

The next release is Snow Buddies, the next direct-to-DVD film in the Air Bud franchise. Great for the kids, this movie features six golden retriever pups that get air-lifted to Alaska where they join with a boy and his husky to win a sled dog race.
3. Feast of Love

For the adults, we have Feast of Love, an ensemble piece featuring a the different aspects of love from infatuation to heartbreak. This is a heavy drama with great acting and plenty of naked celebrities.
2. The Aristocats

Again for the kiddies is the re-release of Disney’s The Aristocats. Not to be confused with “The Aristocrats,” this classic animated film is a must-own for the Disney fan… and any parent who wants to bulk up their movie collection so they don’t have to watch “The Lion King” 27 times a day.
1. Across the Universe

And topping the list of my DVD picks is Across the Universe, Julie Taymor’s homage to Beatles music that has redefined the modern musical. Visually stunning with a killer soundtrack, this film captures the essence of a time of revolution.
STINKER OF THE WEEK
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

But with the good comes the bad. The stanky Oscar bait films to avoid this week include Jodie Foster’s overblown acting in The Brave One and the wretchedly boring The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford… And yes, the movie is as long as the title.
And that’s the DVD Rundown. This is Kevin Carr, and that’s the way I see it.
