I am really shocked by how much acclaim this movie got. I just rented it last week, and it is one of the most boring, stupid movies I have ever seen. The acting was good, Day-Lewis was very convincing, but the movie was retarded. The entire time I was waiting for the climax, or for the impending event that was continually alluded. Not to mention the soundtrack did not match the movie at all. I really like this website because it usually side-steps the liberal, artsy fartsy swooning over a movie like this, but not this time. Sure it was shot well, and the scenery was interesting, blah blah blah, but the plot was just plain boring and stupid! What am I missing?

Maggie: I'm going to have to watch Chinatown again to hear John Huston's voice again. Looking at his acting credits, I've seen some of his other movies. Its been a long time though, I've probably forgotten.

Brian: I liked both equally, but No Country for Old Men was more entertaining. I was so disappointed at what was included when I rented it, that passed up the DVD. I'm waiting for a deluxe edition that gives No Country the same treatment as the Coen's did for The Big Lebowski. The first release was crap and finally seven years later we got a much better presentation.

For the deluxe No Country for Old Men, I'm imagining a giant box, shaped like a quarter. The movie will be on the heads side, and the special features on the tails side. Really its a toss up between the two films especially the cinematography.

This movie was awesome. The only movies I've bought this year so far are There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men. I think Blood was a better movie than No Country and should have won Best Picture, but hey, who cares? I love that it didn't make huge money either...it wasn't supposed to be a blockbuster. PTA could be the next great, but the Coens are def the best in the biz now.

Did you notice how very closely Day-Lewis' voice resembles that of John Huston? In some scenes, it's identical, leading me to wonder if Day-Lewis studied the cadence and accent of Huston.

It was positively eerie in some scenes.
