While I'd love to see Egghead or King Tut return ( loved the small screen version of them ) ... the over the top wackiness wouldnt really vibe with the current direction of the films...I wouldnt mind seeing The Riddler make a return ... or a new take on Cat Woman...

It would be interesting to see Nolan's take on the Riddler. We all have this image of an
over-the-top, attention-deficit dude, but Nolan, with Depp's talents, if he is in fact the
One, could surprise us. Let's hope so!!

The toughest thing about chosing new villains is crafting a story that includes them intrinsically. The audience must understand WHY the villain exists, and WHAT they stand to gain. I think what we find in batman begins and tdk are villains whose purpose is not necessarily to ruin other people's lives, but to make the world a better place. Ra's al Ghul wanted to destroy the worst city in America (Gotham) and re-create it. Joker wanted to show people that propriety is a relative system, so instead of creating new rules, drop the rules entirely and you'll be happier. Two-Face wanted revenge for Rachel, so he took the law into his hands and molded it to match the grim reality he saw reflected in his tragic disfigurement. These are not 'villains' in the sense that their only goal is wanton violence and destruction--even joker wasn't without a purpose, however twisted. I think next film will be as successful as the first two, as long as the filmmakers keep in mind who they are and what they are trying to do: which is, in my opinion, to make batman the most believable superhero on film. To that end, i think the supernatural or scientifically questionable villains are probably not going to make it to final draft. That being said, i think catwoman is most likely a candidate for this next chapter, if only as a minor character. She's not terribly believable under a microscope, but in small doses I think she could represent a very interesting evolution of the costumed criminal. Penguin is possible--the darker side of wealth. Riddler, too, could work if re-imagined in the same way the joker was. In the end, the real test will be the plot. Remember, batman is now a wanted man. He has lived long enough to make himself a villain, in the eyes of the law, fulfilling harvey dent's prophecy--so whatever happens in #3, whoever the villains turn out to be, it is certain that the theme of the next film will be, i think, redemption.

Beyond that, we'll just have to wait and see...
