The Wackness

Over the weekend I continued my gush-fest over The Wackness, which in my opinion is the best indie film of the year so far. And not only does it deliver a very real, very bumpin’ vision of New York City in the Summer of ‘94, complete with plenty of references to Biggie Smalls and Guliani’s drug crusade, it also features one hell of a soundtrack. To illustrate my point, the folks at Sony Pictures Classics have made this slick little widget to give you a preview:

As well, I have the full listing of songs from the soundtrack, which features everything from the Fresh Prince to Notorious B.I.G to R. Kelly and Biz Markie. If you grew up in the 90s, you will certainly recognize some of these tracks:

01. “The What” - Notorious B.I.G. feat. Method Man
02. “You Used to Love Me” - Faith Evans
03. “Flava in Your Ear” -Craig Mack
04. “Summertime” - Fresh Prince
05. “Can’t Ya See” - Total
06. “I Can’t Wake Up” - KRS-One
07. “The World is Yours” - Nas
08. “Can I Kick It?” -A Tribe Called Quest
09. “Heaven or Hell” - Raekwon
10. “Bump and Grind” - R. Kelly
11. “Just a Friend” - Biz Markie
12. “Tearz” - Wu Tang Clan
13. “Long Shot Kick the Bucket” - The Pioneers
Including bonus tracks edition
14. “All the Young Dudes” - Mott the Hoople
15. “Season of the Witch” - Donovan

And now that we have that out of the way, I am happy to report that we have procured three (3) copies of The Wackness Soundtrack to give away to our loyal readers and fellow kids of the 90s. All you have to do in order to be entered is to follow the simple instructions below.

Step one is to be a subscriber to our daily email updates, powered by Feedburner. It is the one daily email to rule them all — all the best of the Rejects right in your inbox. The second is that you must answer a question in the comment section below. But before I get to that, I have a few more rules: You must be a legal resident of the United States or Canada in order to win, you must enter prior to Wednesday, July 9th and you must be awesome — which all of our readers are, so that should be the easy part. And now, the question:

If you had the chance to go back to 1994 and become a famous rapper, what would your rapper name be?

The Wackness is currently rolling into theaters across the country. For a full release schedule and links to trailers, video clips and my review from the Sundance Film Festival, check out this article.
