On September 23, Paramount Home Entertainment will be releasing the newly restored classic The Godfather Collection: The Coppola Restoration on DVD. But as you might have expected, we’ve got your chance to win a copy — we like to do what we can to help you save a little dough.

Two (2) lucky winners will score a copy of The Godfather Collection absolutely free, courtesy of yours truly, Film School Rejects.

Favorite: They are all great, but the best is the first one.

I know this won’t be the most popular answer but my favorite of the three is the third one. Yes, the first two are classic films and all that but i feel like the third one goes back to everything that the Godfather was all about. The higher scale of corruption and intrigue, the action and the mystery. This is not to say i don’t like the first two but to me, all of that makes it my favorite movie.

The second because I was disappointed when the first one didn’t cover the early life of Vito Corleone, which is discussed in the book. De Niro is awesome as Vito.

The first one. This is a perfect story about the fall of an individual. Michael starts out as a good man and later becomes bad. But, what makes the story so great is that we, the audience, can connect to Michael because we can understand why he falls into his position. Family comes first and if some people were given enough power, most will do anything to protect their family. The sequels were fantastic, but Michael’s fall into power, I felt was far more interesting than his attempt of redemption brought up later in the series.

The first Godfather was the best out the three. Why . The story is always key in any film. and in the first godfather the main thing that i find usering out is the notion that your can run but your can’t hide . Basicly what I mean is Michael wants nothing to do with his famly’s bissness . But is pulled in for the love of his famly, the one scene that sticks out is the scene in the restraunt where he fmeets with two people from another one famlies. and kills them in cold blood . but the thing that realy realy drew me in was the amazing preformce by the great Marlin Brando . his preformce is one that will live in imfamy. Due to his preformce I think that due to him and the great writers of the film . The orignal Godfather Will transend time.

I prefer both Godfather I and II, because they are both basically etched into American pop culture. These two classic films just make you love cinema again.

Godfather III, well that’s just another story that must never be told, not even after the end of time.

The first one is still the best. Yes, the second filled in the story and the third wrapped things up well but the first is still my favorite since it was more about the family protecting its own, pure and simple.

Best movie in my category. Brando’s acting is magnitudes above any best actors in Hollywood and in any other world theaters. I suspect Brando’s brilliance is unmatched by anyone before and (I suspect) after him. For example, Pacino is superb but still Brando is head and shoulders above Pacino. I just love Brando’s acting, he simply grabs you and take you to anywhere the movie wants you to.

The first one is clearly the best. The story of Micheal’s moral descruction while ascending to Godfather is suberb. Number 2 is great too because we get to see Vito’s early life and his rise to power, and Micheal’s further descent.

number three is my least favourite for one reason, the incest storyline, it was completely unnecessary and made the movie kind of weird for me, but the storyline of Micheal seeking redemption is great.

Remembering these as I watched them way back as a teenager, my favourite is the first Godfather.

I’ll never ever ever forget the horse head in the bed! I can’t tell you how shocked I was and what an impact that had on me at the time lol It seems a bit tame now, but boy did it freak me out at the time!

I’d have to go with the third one being my favorite. After watching the third one, it makes
you want to rewatch the first two, just because you know how much better they are in
comparison. It makes each of the first two that much more powerful. It’s like having a
third, tiny, ugly nipple on your girlfriend. It makes the other two look amazing!

The Godfather, because I can’t remember Part 3 that well I haven’t seen it in a while. Part 2 was good. But Part one is what got it all started. I was hooked once Pacino came back and realized what he got into.

my personal favorite Godfather films is Godfather Part II because Al Pacinos portrayal
of the ruthless Michael Corleone was the polar opposite of de Niros young and innocent
Vito who becomes a criminal out of necessity. The scene where Michael kisses Fredo,
tells him he knows he betrayed him, then has his own flesh and blood brother (the
only member of the family to openly congradulate Michael for joining the war effort in
a flashback scene) and then have him murdered… Its chilling to realize just how evil
Michael has become, and Michaels beginning as a Don is perfect contrast to Vitos early
experience.

I like the whole series but I like the very first segment best, for it sets the tone for every episode that follows, especially the underlying theme that the family arose from an individual who realized that the only way to protect his family was to develop another “family”–a group that had no limits to their violence, even murder,
when it threatened the interests of “The Family”: individuals who on the surface appear to be cold-blooded killers but who could still show a tenderness and love for their loved ones–the theme that kept developing all the way to the very last episode.

Godfather: Part Two because we get a back story on Don Corleone, and we see Michael who at first wanted nothing to do with the family “business” become the next Don of the Corleone family. I love The Godfather truly, truly a cinematic masterpiece.

The second one is my favorite because of the fantastic way in which they weave together the stories of Michael’s moral destruction and his father’s rise to power. Its the complex and tragic juxtaposition of Vito’s efforts to protect his family with Michael’s taking the power that his father gained too far that makes this film a masterpiece.

Part 1, not because it’s the original or the base of it all, simply because it’s the best and it’s the one that shocked men and women around the world when the saw it, a film so real and deep about a gang or organized crime had never been done to it’s extent and it became one of the most famous films of all time.

Can you really pick a favorite Coppola film? It’s hard but that’s the one that would have to be it.

It’s a toss up between Parts I and II. I’d say Part I did a marginally better job of portraying the Corleone family crime ring, but Part II wasn’t exactly “worse”. Early Vito Corleone in Part II pretty much made the entire move for me. Since I can’t really make a decision, I’ll go for Part I because I have less mental lapses when I watch it for some reason.

I like the first one had so much more, because it was spoofed by the Simpsons more. Tony the mobster and Moe both do Brando’s orange thing, and Caine as a guest star gets his at a toll booth. Also, Lisa wakes up to find a horse head in her bed, but unlike the movie, it was still attached to the horse.

The second one was one spoofed once, as far as I recall. Homer walking down the street in Deniro’s white suit getting respect and free doughnuts from the townspeople.

Was the third one worth spoofing?

I’d have to say that I regrettably have still never seen the 3rd one. Sorry everybody, but I do enjoy The Godfather very much (found a VHS copy at a yard sale for 50 cents, shame on them). The horse head scene still creeps me out everytime. That’s just wrong.

First Godfather is the best. Yes, DeNiro kicks some major *ace* in the second, but you
cannot beat the Shakespearean tragedy of the first. The king with the three sons, all pulled
by a code honor higher than themselves. The detail work of a fairly “green” director is quite
astounding. I have loved these movies ever since my Ma sat me down and made me watch
them as a young kid. My grandmother was born into one of those families and got out. Ma
heightened the movie experience for me by telling me the tale of my great Uncle who got
deported because they found a body in his trunk. “Hey! It can happen to anyone!”

n my opinion the first Godfather movie was the best. I feel it was the first “Mafia” movie that was able to depict the characters as being more than one dimensional. The movie gives a fine definition of the paradoxical nature of the mobsters who are portrayed not only as the seamy, ugly, cold blooded monsters they were, but also as loving family men, shrewd businessman, and politicos striving for their share of the American dream just like the rest of us.

In fact, that is the reason I love this movie. The Corleone family has more in common with the average family than most of us want to believe.

Mario Puzo’s The Godfather: Part II

Reasons
1. Because of the early buzz on the Godfather, the sequel was planned before filming was finished on the original. Destiny anyone?

2. Oranges = Death 4 out of 5 times. I don’t know why, but that is just awesome!

3. The fact that Part II is a Prequel and a Sequel makes the first one better. I can only count Part II as just as good as the Original Godfather. Not better or less in any way, but equal in weight and merit. But Part II adds so much more to the first one simply through its storytelling. We get both the rise and fall of the Corleone family in part II. What more could you ask for?

4. Part II is the most decorated and influential sequel of all time. The Godfather: Part II is the reason sequels exist in the first place. Other than the fact that Hollywood has taken advantage of audience loyalty and has since begun to treat sequels as cash grabs rather than art and a chance to do something more, is an insult to what Coppola was able to accomplish with Part II.

5. Part II is my favorite movie of all time. Not to sound like most of the other commenters, but Part II is perfectly acted, directed, and executed. In Part II, Vito becomes more respected and Michael becomes more pitied. Its a sad and beautiful portrayal. One that has been unrivaled in cinema since.

The Godfather, the first film, is the best film of the three, in my opinion. I find that it is the best of the three primarily because of it’s seminal influence and the element of “newness” within the series. In comparison to the other three films (specifically the second), there is a wider pastiche of compelling characters. Many of the same characters appear in the second, but in an older, less energetic texture. That is not to say that Part II is significantly less of a film, more that it’s both familiar, and to an extent, sans its spontaneity. The Godfather is also replete with many classic and culturally known expressions. Anyone on the street can recognize a line from the first film, whereas you’ll be hardpressed to find such a cultural pervasion of the writing from either the second or third. The Godfather is one of the great films that American cinema has ever produced; it’s simply my favorite.

I mean you just cant beat the classic lines like “Leave the gun take the canoli.” or “We’re going to the matresses.” Plus all the other things that people have mentioned like the horse head and just the basic plot line about family and the mob who doesn’t find the mob interesting.

The first one. It was the one that started it all and it had Brando. Vito Corleone IS the Godfather, and Brando’s depiction of him is image that everything thinks of whenever one thinks of the Mafia (unless it’s Tony Soprano). Plus, all the classic scenes in the first one are so memorable, even people who’ve never seen the movie knows about it (i.e. the horse’s head).

My favorite is The Godfather: Part II. The casting is superbly done, the direction is arguably better than the first, and the character/story development is incredible. Although it’s not possible to have The Godfather: Part II without first having The Godfather. Ultimately, The Godfather: Part II defines what is to be a ‘Godfather,’ and further develops the dynastic cycle of the Corleone family. It’s The Godfather: Part II’s complexity and richness that make it my favorite of the trilogy.

I love both I and II, but The Godfather was a perfect film. Every scene was riveting and expertly filmed.

My favorite would have to be the first one. I’m Italian american and it really spoke to me. It was realistic, well acted and driven. Marlon Brando was phenomenal as the Don.

Godfather 2, DeNiro as a young Vito is amazing. His picking up on Brando’s mannerisms,
nuances, voice, etc., is one of the great acting performances.

My FAVORITE has to be PART II. WHY?! After the award-grabbing, history-haulting success of the first film, one is left with the question: How did a family so powerful, so utterly controlling yet likeable rise to power? Godfather I is my favorite…love the classic wedding scene, all the conflict throughout the movie, and the settling of conflict so that Michael could come home. Watching Michael handle the family after his father’s death, and the decisions he made really adds impact to the story, and made me want to see more.

number 1 is my fave. i watched it at the theater when it first came out & it was like nothing i’d ever seen before. the mood, the script, the story telling. it had such a great cast. it’s not only my favorite godfather, but my favorite movie of all time.

The first Godfather movie. Not only was it an excellent movie, extremely compelling and engrossing–more so than the others…it also had Sonny, and he was a great character that could not be carried on to the subsequent films.

My favorite might just be Part III, not because it’s the best film of the trilogy (because it’s unarguably not), but because it was the first of the three that I saw and, upon reflection, is underrated for its more intellectual, subtle, psychological approach to the characters and their relationships.

I like the first Godfather movie the best. The acting and the plot is just superior to the other movies. The story line is not disjointed and the scripted words are just better than the two sequals. But, I do love them all so I hope I have a chance to win.
