His crime: nonconformity. His sentence: the chain gang. Paul Newman plays one of his best-loved roles as Cool Hand Luke, the loner who won’t –- or can’t -– bend to the arbitrary rules of his captivity. With rich humor and vibrant storytelling power, Cool Hand Luke succeeds resoundingly. And we’ve got your opportunity to bring home Cool Hand Luke on DVD, absolutely free.

I like him as "Butch Cassidy!" The chemistry between Robert Redford and him was magical! Thanks, Cindi
  • Christy Schultz
I liked him in The Long, Hot Summer as Ben Quick. I like that movie because it is one of the first movies I remember seeing.
  • Well, coincidentally, my favorite Paul Newman role is as Luke in Cool Hand Luke. The way that each of his characters has carried a certain smugness, you know it will always get him into trouble at some point. Well in this movie he is already in trouble, being detained already, so I like the tenacity he shows to keep his spirits up.

And the egg scene is good fun, and classic cinema.

mine is also fast eddie that movie was great

My favorite character is Henry Gondorff from The Sting. He is so smooth, he plays a drunk
very VERY well and he's funny as all hell. The relationship between him and Redford is
classic in that movie, the mentor and mentoree. He nailed that part.
  • My favorite Paul Newman character is Cool Hand Luke, I love his acting in that film, and always having that slick grin on his face no matter what. That film is one of my all time favorites

There are so many great Paul Newman roles, but I'd have to say my favorite is Henry Gondorff in The Sting. Paul was perfect in that role and I couldn't image any other actor playing a scoundrel quite as good as Paul did.

I think Paul Newman's best role was Brick in Cat On A Ht Tin Roof. He was amazing and the chemistry among the entire cast was perfect for the film. I've seen the play several times, but I still don't think anyone can beat Paul Newman's performance.
