With so many 3D movies flooding into the theaters this year, the studios are scrambling to get their own 3D flicks noticed. The folks behind Disney/Pixar’s new animated masterpiece Up have found a cool and unique way to promote their upcoming film.

The Disney/Pixar team has been traveling the country on both coasts, visiting 20 different cities with their “Up, Up and Away” promotion. This tour gave members of the press a chance to take a balloon ride in Carl Fredericksen’s easy chair. After all, what better way is there to experience the 3D of a balloon ride than by riding in the balloons myself?

As the FSR resident Disney fan, I made the trek down to Cincinnati to take a ride in Up’s beautiful balloons. When the Disney rep initially told me that the 65 massive helium balloons are capable of lifting up to 220 pounds, I started to sweat a bit. However, she soon corrected herself and told me it could life up to 420 pounds. Whew!

So I took the plunge (or rather, I took the lift) and flew away fifty feet in the air in the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati Ohio. Check out the video of the balloon ride below…

A special thanks goes out to Disney/Pixar for arranging this cool event. Also, thanks to FSR friend Elizabeth Trupp (also seen riding the balloons in the video) for helping with videography and photography for the event.

Up opens in Disney Digital 3D nationwide on May 29.

Intrepid FSR reader Jeff P. sent over a few cool new featurettes for Watchmen this afternoon. And since I’m feeling generous, I thought I might throw them up on the site for all to see. They each feature a different character or set of characters from the film, as well as interview clips with various cast members.

This one goes out to those of you who have not yet seen enough of Watchmen, which hits theaters on March 6, 2009.

Baring any further developments in the 'Christian Bale Strikes Back' situation, this should be our last post about it. But as you'd expect, we've got an assortment of links to share with you.

Baring any further developments in the ‘Christian Bale Strikes Back’ situation, this should be our last post about it. Personally, I had all sorts of debate with self and other folks around the FSR office yesterday as to whether we should even be talking about it or not. But based on the amount of comments each of these stories have received, you all appear to be interested. So in addition to the video above — which is a rather funny remix of the now infamous Bale rant — we’ve got a few links that you can use to entertain yourselves.

First up is a rant from Harry Knowles over at Ain’t It Cool News, who is so above this gossipy crap that he waited until the sound clip had taken over the web, then wrote a big rant about why he wasn’t posting it.

Next is an excellent editorial from Devin Faraci at CHUD, in which he once again urges Mr. Bale to “cheer up.”

Then there is a Christian Bale Soundboard that the folks over at UGO put together. This will come in handy down the road if you are (a) a radio DJ hell bent on torturing the world or (b) someone with way too much time on their hands.

And finally, the pop culture revolution continues — the folks at Despair have begun selling the “Christian Bale and I are DONE Professionally” T-shirt.

So there you have it, folks. Everything that you need to continue to laugh at the expense of Christian Bale. I would say that you should be ashamed, but you all know that we are sort of laughing, too. I do stand by my original claim, however, that Bale was probably justified in his outburst. He’s a serious actor, someone not to be fucked with.

Last year, a young girl committed suicide after being bullied online. What better way to honor her memory than by making a generic thriller based off the event?

In today’s news that will make you throw up in your mouth a little before swallowing it back down and bitterly twisting your face, Rocklin Entertainment is moving forward with a production entitled E-Venge that borrows directly from the real life events surrounding the suicide of Megan Meier.

“Who is Megan Meier?” you ask rhetorically. She’s the thirteen-year old girl who took her own life after being intensely harassed over the internet by a classmate and that classmate’s mother. It was a major news story last year because it brought to light the sometimes-dire consequences of cyber-bullying.

Now, Rocklin Entertainment wants to take what must be an incredibly painful and intimate event and translate it into a generic thriller/revenge movie. Excuse me, E-Venge movie. Seriously. It’s not REvenge. It’s E-Venge. Because, you know, it’s done on the internet. Because everything on the internet has “E-” in front of it. Holy crap, can you tell I’m irritated by this? I guarantee a group of fifty-year olds came up with that title while E-Texting on their E-Phones and E-Surfing E-Tube instead of paying attention during the brainstorming session.

The synopsis via Production Weekly:

Inspired by recent events, a grieving mother retaliates against those she feels were responsible for her daughter’s death.

The people in involved with this production are jackasses.

I know I usually only editorialize fifteen times a day, but this news is just sickening. It’s exploitative and opportunistic. Not to mention the whole thing sounds about as low rent as you can get. If you disagree, please see Exhibit A : The Title of the Movie.

Rocklin Entertainment is a newer company – unless someone can correct me – that currently has zero projects under its belt, one in production, and several more in development. To be fair, untested doesn’t mean unskilled, but even if Spielberg were directing this project, I don’t think I could get behind it.

What do you think? Am I overreacting? Is there anyway this doesn’t sound totally generic?

Last night Entertainment Tonight aired a 10-second clip from the G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra commercial that will run this weekend during the Superbowl, and of course it has made its way online. And I must warn you, this may conflict with everything we’ve seen thus far from the G.I. Joe production in that it actually looks pretty cool, but don’t go throwing away your pitchforks and torches yet — there is still an entire movie to be released before we let Stephen Sommers off the hook. It also important to note that the lover inside of me hopes that every movie turns out great — so while we’ve been openly ridiculing everything we’ve seen from this production thus far, our sincere hope is to have the opportunity to eat those words in August. But anyway, check out the 10-second clip below and let us know what you think.

For some reason, this year’s Superbowl commercials — at least the movie related variety — all seem to be showing up on the web prior to Sunday’s big game. If you ask me, it just doesn’t seem right. What other reason am I going to find to watch the Steelers and the Cardinals play in the Superbowl? I’m from Cleveland for gods sake. If there are no good commercials left, then what is a Browns fan to do? Alas, I will figure something out. For now I will continue to hit you with all of the available video clips, including the following TV spot that Disney has released for their upcoming film Race to Witch Mountain, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Watchmen super-hottie Carla Gugino.

Based on the first trailer we saw a few months back and this spot, which comes courtesy of MTV, I’m not afraid to admit that this might actually be pretty cool. Sure, it appears to have a toned down family-friendly gloss to it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that its going to suck. In fact, The Rock has done well for himself in comedic roles and the visual effects in this film appear to be pretty clean. I can’t help but remember people coming out of the Disney panel at Comic-Con in August, where footage from this film was shown, and being pleasantly surprised by what they saw. I say don’t knock it until we see something that indicates imminent suckage — for now just watch and enjoy this TV spot.

Race to Witch Mountain hits theaters on March 13th.

Earlier this evening the folks over on G4’s Attack of the Show (a personal favorite of yours truly) profiled three of the must read “movie blogs” on the web today. And as you have come to expect, we were not among the three featured sites. Our good friends over at /Film were, however, leading to the movie blogger equivelent of a sasquatch sighting. Yes, that picture above is yours truly being spotted in one of Peter Sciretta’s now infamous Sundance video blogs.

Also featured in the now mostly irrelevant (/jealousy and bitterness) clip were the fine gents over at CHUD, who we’ve always held as kindred spirits. And the team over at The Movie Blog, who we are surprised to find are still actually writing about movies. Who knew? Either way, congrats are in order to our friends at CHUD and /Film, both of whom we love and admire. Check out the full clip below, courtesy of G4.

Oh Attack of the Show, if it wasn’t for Olivia Munn…

The lovely folks over at Focus Features are really excited about their film Milk being nominated for 8 Academy Awards. Who wouldn’t be, right? And to celebrate all of their nominations, including Sean Penn’s Best Actor nod and one for Best Picture, they have put together two brand new featurettes — one focused on the actors and another on the filmmakers.

And since we’ve been a little light on our coverage of this movie for no good reason, I thought I’d share them with you. Besides, I’m not sure how many of you have actually seen Milk, but its pretty damn good. Sean Penn once again brings his A-game. Check out the two new featurettes below.

Paul McGuigan's new film, Push, is one big question mark. The premise, about a group of individuals with special powers being hunted by government forces, has fantastic promise.

Paul McGuigan’s new film, Push, is one big question mark. The premise, about a group of individuals with special powers being hunted by government forces, has fantastic promise. It could be an incredible, action/effects filled popcorn movie (Iron Man). Or it could be a stupid, cartoonish waste of time (Jumper). The Heroes, sorry, heroes, include Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, and Camilla Belle as young folks who can move stuff with their mind, see into the future, and look incredibly hot, respectively. Apple is hosting an exclusive new clip from Push showcasing a fight between Evans and another pusher.

[See post to watch Flash video]

What do you think? Recent trailers have actually drawn me in a bit, but this clip just pushed me away again. (See what I did there? I apologize.) It starts fine with telekinetic shenanigans and bamboo, but quickly turns into a live-action video game with punches that snap, crackle, and pop. Their punches flash on contact like in a game of Star Gladiator (best fighting game ever!) for the Sony Playstation. Looks lame, but more distressing is the lack of a point beyond the initial “wow” factor. They imply serious power behind those punches and kicks… power and force that should be capable of breaking necks and pulverizing faces… yet the fight plays out like any other with nary a bruise or blood drop. Lame.

Your thoughts?

Three new Coraline web trailers just hit the internets, and they either look creepy, fantastic, or creepy fantastic.

If you saw My Bloody Valentine 3-D this weekend, as we did, then you were witness to a fantastic trailer for Coraline. Now feast your eyes on some stop motion goodness of the forthcoming film.

The 3D stop motion flick based on Neil Gaiman’s horror novella won’t hit theaters until February 6th. That’s a bad thing for fans of the young Coraline Jones. But fret not, we’ve got you covered with three new trailers that invite us into her dark and dazzling dream world.

Coraline focuses on a young girl who decides to leave her family that neglects her for a magical world where her dreams seem to come true, but eventually turn into a nightmare. We’re looking forward to it and the 3D version looks out of this world. The best part is it gives us something to do while waiting for Jonas Bros. The 3D Concert Experience. Those boys are a dream, especially the one who looks like Cosmo Kramer. And the sarcasm ends … now.

What do you think of the Coraline trailers? Should Adam stop being so hard on the Jonas Bros.? Was that last sentence unintentionally homoerotic and disturbing?

The following clip — from the upcoming sci-fi flick Push from director Paul McGuigan — is being called the ‘telekinetic gun fight.’ In truth it is more of a telekinetic beat down scene, in which one character takes a beating from two other characters who also possess cool powers. As I’ve said many times before, Push appears to be the movie version of what Heroes fans would have loved to see from their show in season three, but were aptly denied. Lots of action, powers being put to use in ways both diabolical and heroic and plenty of wicked bad guys. Bad guys played by Djimon Hounsou, who is bad ass.

Push hits theaters February 6, 2009. Check out the new clip below, courtesy of Rotten Tomatoes.

Remember that hot chick from Pineapple Express, Amber Heard? Well, not to be gossipy, but I have it on high authority that she spends most of the duration of her upcoming movie The Informers in the nude. Yes, nude. And if that isn’t enough reason to see this film — which premieres next week here at Sundance — there is also Mickey Rourke, who plays a creep. The flick is based on a book by Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho) and co-written by Nicholas Jarecki. It also stars Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Bassinger and Jon Foster. And if that all isn’t enough to get you guys interested — and I think I’ve appealed to multiple demographic groups here — check out the unrated trailer below. It is full of sex, drugs and rock n’ roll, 80s style.

The Informers starts its theatrical run on April 10th in New York and Los Angeles. It will then spread out wider and wider in the following weeks. Warning, the trailer below does contain nudity.

What happens when you bring back Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) back together eight years after their first run together in The Fast and the Furious? You end up “Supermaning that hoe,” Souldja Boy style. This high-energy dose of nostalgia and burnt motor oil is going to serve as the full theatrical trailer to Fast and Furious. From Tokyo Drift director Justin Lin, the fourth film reunites the core original cast members, including Diesel, Walker, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster. This second trailer explains a little bit more about what has brought O’Conner and Toretto back together, but we are still in the dark as to who or what they are chasing. I’m sure all will be explained through mucho macho dialog and latinas in short skirts. Not that I’m complaining.

Fast & Furious hits theaters on April 3, 2009. Have a gander at the new trailer below, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies.

Aside from the ridiculous hair that I can only assume is meant to visually represent Sandra Bullock's character's unique personality and style, there's really nothing worth mentioning here.

I don’t really have much to add to this trailer. So here it is.

See what I mean? Aside from the ridiculous hair that I can only assume is meant to visually represent her character’s unique personality and style, there’s really nothing worth mentioning here. The cast is nice I guess. Thomas Haden Church and Bradley Cooper are both funny and talented. Bullock is fine, but with this and The Proposal opening this year I think it’s time for her to take a sabbatical from romantic comedies. Perhaps find some oddball action picture to star in… maybe something that reunites her with her Demolition Man co-star… something set in South America and filled with guns and explosions…

All About Steve opens March 6th. As does a much more interesting-looking film called Tokyo! And of course, a little film called Watchmen.

I’m not a fan of remakes in general, but I’m not necessarily against them either. Basically, I usually just don’t care. But they should really only be made when something about it can be done better. Which brings us to the upcoming remake of Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left.

The original is a cheap, ugly, mean little movie that’s barely interesting enough to watch once but never again. The storyline about a girl who’s raped and left for dead, only to have her attackers taking refuge in her parents’ house, is both sadistic and cathartic. So how do you make it better? Judging by the new trailer anyway, you make the movie look like it’s about the power of love. Check it out.

[See post to watch Flash video]

Sweet music (including a fantastic cover of Sweet Child O’ Mine… anyone know who this is?) plays over some brutal-looking action including a knife to the back of the head and a dude about to be microwaved. Good stuff. Craven hands directing duties to Dennis Iliadis, and judging by the trailer it looks to be a wise choice. This is Iliadis’ US debut after his Greek-language film, Hardcore. Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter are both solid actors and it’ll be interesting to see them get their hands dirty.

Rogue Pictures has a lot to apologize for after the stank of The Unborn, so hopefully this will be as good as the trailer implies. Some new stills have also been released.
