First Look: Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith Filming The Kung-Fu Kid

They weren’t kidding about the re-imagining of The Karate Kid that will star Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. As proof, the folks at Spoiler TV have posted several images from the set of The Kung-Fu Kid. This is the first evidence we’ve seen of the Will Smith-produced project and I’m sure it will spark some outrage, as Jackie Chan looks nothing like Pat Morita.

Jaden Smith stars as Dre, a skateboarding video game buff who is forced to move to China after his single mother (Taraji P. Henson) transfers there for work. Unable to speak Chinese, Dre finds it hard to settle down and fit in, leading him to an unfortunate confrontation with a local bully. Jackie Chan is Mr. Han, a maintenance man who spots the scars of Dre’s encounter and offers to teach him martial arts and Chinese, so that he can defend himself against the students of Li Quan Ha’s Fighting Dragon School of Kung-Fu.

Filming has begun in Bejing (obviously) under the guidance of director Harald Zwart, working from a script by Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness). It is scheduled for a June 11, 2010 release. Have a look at one of the photos below, and find more over at Spoiler TV.

Nicolas Cage’s Crazy Hair is Back On The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Set

Despite yet another poorly reviewed film, Nicolas Cage has managed to score another hit at the box office with Know1ng. The actor, still one of the busiest in Hollywood, has a slate of interesting films coming up. He’s co-starring in Kick-Ass about a high school kid who decides to become a superhero, Bad Lieutenant from uber-director Werner Herzog, doing voices in two animated films, G-Force and Astro Boy, starring in Season of the Witch (which inspired this article about his different hairstyles), and a boxing movie with 50 Cent.

Now pictures of Cage on the set of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice with Jay Baruchel have popped up courtesy Just Jared. Cage, who appears to be doing his best Kris Kristofferson, is playing Balthazar Blake, a sorcerer who leaves his “shop” to his apprentice (played by Baruchel) for a brief amount of time. Once he does that, a magical broomstick decides to take on a life of its own. Sounds like a winner.

Add this hairdo to the pretty amazing collection of Cage ‘Dos so far. In fact, Rotten Tomatoes created a game linking a pic of his hair to the movie it appears in and it’ll surprise you how many twisted coifs this man has sported over the years.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice opens the summer of 2010. Just Jared and Celebrity Gossip also posted photos of hottie Teresa Palmer on the set as well. Check her out below as an added bonus.

Twilight Shocker: Set Pictures Reveal Bella’s New Habit

Just the other day our good friends over at Spoiler TV sent us a link to a massive gallery of spy photos from the set of the upcoming Summit Entertainment film Twilight: New Moon. And upon careful inspection, we have made several shocking discoveries about the upcoming film. As someone who has not read the book, I cannot confirm whether these elements are faithful to the source material, so I will rely on the expertise of you, our fair readers, to carry me through. Above you will see Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella Swan, on set rehearsing a scene in which Bella shows off her new habit: smoking. I must wonder how Bella’s smoking will play with the younger audiences — does Bella smoking make it cool again? Will kids be standing in line for this film in November, sporting their “Team Jacob” T-Shirts and a pack of Marlboro Reds? Its too early to say, but my money is on yes.

Secondly, as you will see from the image below, the role of Jacob will be played by the fourth, beefy Jonas Brother. I know this because he is casually standing on street corner, gawking at all the girls while he strokes his “abstinence ring.”

And Edward (Robert Pattinson) is going to be channeling Jeff Spicoli throughout the entire second film. For the uninitiated, that means he’s been smoking the green machine.

And finally, Peter Facinelli looking dapper, as always.

First Look: Ellen Page, Kristen Wiig Get Groovy in Whip It

It seems only fitting that our good friend Christopher M. sent us some photos from the set of Whip It, the upcoming roller derby film directed by Drew Barrymore, as we were the site that broke the news of Ellen Page’s involvement back in January. At the time, “Derby Girl” writer Shauna Cross, whose book is the source material for the film, hinted at Page taking the lead roll of Bliss Cavender, an indie-rock loving misfit who finds her place as part of the Texas women’s roller derby.

Now, with the rest of the cast set — one that includes Kristen Wiig, Zoe Bell, Juliet Lewis, Marcia Gay Harden and Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat — the film has just finished lensing in Michigan. The following photos were taken on set, and while they aren’t giving us a lot of insight as to what we can expect from Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut, they do show off some funky roller derby costumes. Have a look for yourself below.

Whip It does not yet have a release date, but should be in theaters sometime in 2009.

First Look: Michael Cera’s Youth in Revolt

FSR reader of the day (sorry everyone else, he sent us the most fun stuff today) Christopher M. hit us with a first look set of photos for Lesbian Vampire Killers earlier, satisfying the blood and bondage thirsty masses of our core audience. And while a set of photos from the set of Youth in Revolt, a comedy based on a popular novel from C.D. Payne. The film has a stellar cast, including Michael Cera, Justin Long, Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta, Fred Willard, Ari Graynor, Mary Kay Place, Zach Galifianakis and newcomer Portia Doubleday.

Youth tells the story of Nick (Cera), a 14-year old from a trailer trash family whose parents are teetering on divorce. All the while Nick has set his sights on dream girl Sheeni Saunders (Doubleday), hoping that she’ll be the one to take away his virginity.

First Look: The Kid in Pajamas is Ready to ‘Kick-Ass’

The folks over at Newsarama have scored some first look images from the upcoming adaptation of Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass, which is currently in production in Toronto. The story follows Dave Lizewski, played by Aaron Johnson and seen above and below, a high school student who decides to become a superhero despite no actual powers or formal training. Recent set visits by various outlets across the web have revealed that the Matthew Vaughn-directed film will keep with the dark, violent nature of the book — something that should play well with fans.

Kick-Ass also stars Nicolas Cage, RocknRolla and Body of Lies star Mark Strong, Superbad’s Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Dirty Sexy Money’s Chloe Moritz. It does not have an official release date yet, but is expected to hit theaters sometime in the second half of 2009.

Goku? Oozaru? Or Just Someone’s ‘Dragonball’ Halloween Costume?

DBTheMovie.com recently received a photo (from an anonymous source) that purports to be from the set of the new Dragonball movie. “We’ve received a photo from an anonymous source, which is said to be of Goku in ‘monster’ form. Whether or not the photo is of the finished product or an unfinished one is unknown, but we’re guessing the latter is the case.” I’ll admit right now that not only do I not know what the hell this is, but I don’t even know what it’s supposed to be. “Goku in monster form” means nothing to me, but it might to you, so here it is.

Scanning through the almost 500 comments that followed the photo, the general impression appears to be that the look is unfinished, but scary and creepy nonetheless. Is this a good thing? I don’t know. What I do know is that his neck is guaranteed to look extremely rubbery when he turns his head. I will admit though that it’d be kind of cool to see him do some kick-ass martial arts moves. (Dragonball has martial arts right? Or is it just balls flying in people’s faces?)

Brad Pitt Makes Being a ‘Basterd’ Look So Chic

Faithful FSR reader David dropped me a line this afternoon to let me know that the folks over at Empire Online, as well as plenty of other sites around the webosphere, have put up the first image from the set of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. This of course, is the project that QT has been talking about for years, but has only recently decided to put into action. And this first image, of one Brad Pitt posing as Lt. Aldo Raine, leader of a group of Jewish -American soldiers, known as ‘The Basterds’ who are chosen specifically to spread fear among the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. Tarantino has called this his own WWII version of a spaghetti western. Whatever that means, I have a feeling that this could turn out to be a lot of fun — or it could absolutely suck. Or both. Either way, I do know this — that Brad Pitt sure can make Jewish WWII soldierin’ look sexy.

Inglourious Basterds is scheduled to hit theaters in June 2009. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in the comment area below.

As Expected, Jude Law Appears as Dr. Watson

Ladies and gents, feast your eyes on these new photos from the set of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. Ritchie’s reimagining of the famous detective stories features a stellar cast, comprised of Jude Law as Dr. Watson, Rachel McAdams as American love interest Irene Adler, and Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes himself. Mr. Madonna explained the direction of the film as such:

“We’re going to try to introduce something we haven’t seen before, authentic to the narrative…we’re trying to make this film fresh. We should have some good fight sequences.”

Sounds good to me! After Iron Man, I’ve pretty much agreed to be RDJ’s slave for life. And what could be better than British detectives kicking ass? The answer is nothing. And from the sounds of it, Ritchie is pretty confident that our main men will deliver strong performances:

“My one concern was the accents but this is no longer the case. Robert Downey has the best English accent I’ve ever heard.”

On Set: Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes

With production beginning last week in London, we knew that it wouldn’t be long before we had some photos from the set of Guy Ritchie’s new film Sherlock Holmes. And today, courtesy of Just Jared, we have our first look at Robert Downey Jr. in the title role, complete with a bowler hat and what appears to be a Vente Latte.

At Downey’s side in the photo above is director Guy Ritchie, whose vision for this Holmes film is to show off the famous detective’s sword fighting, adventurous nature. It will see him interact with characters old and new, including Irene Adler (played by Rachel McAdams) and Lord Blackwood (played by Mark Strong). As well, there are rumors of a more mysterious, more devious villain pulling strings in a plot that could threaten all of England.

As for the costumed Sherlock Holmes, I’d say he looks just fine. It is incredibly difficult to make broad assessments of a film based on one character walking out of the wardrobe trailer, but I will say that we have reason to be excited about this film — and those reasons go much deeper than how RDJ looks in character. They have everything to do with solid casting and a director who is more than capable of pulling it off.

Spandex and Muscle Cars Fill the Set of Kick-Ass

There has been all sorts of hustlin’ and bustlin’ on the set of Stardust director Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass, which is currently shooting in Toronto. Based on the comic series by Wanted creator Mark Millar, Kick-Ass follows a high school dweeb named Dave Lizewski who decides to become a superhero even though he has no athletic ability or coordination. Of course, his ascension to the ranks of ‘hero’ ultimately lead him to finding some very real bad guys and their very real weapons.

Below you will see the first look at the stunt double for Aaron Johnson, who plays Dave Lizewski, courtesy of Slashfilm.

Also, a few videos have emerged from the set that include a little bit of muscle car action.

Kick-Ass will hit theaters sometime in 2009.

Oil Spoil: Gemma Arterton’s Slippery Quantum of Solace Experience

At this point, it goes without saying that there could be some major spoilers in this article, but this small set of photos released today via The Daily Mail was just too interesting to pass up. Many of you will recognize the image above as the demise of Jill Masterson, played by Shirley Eaton in the 1964 Bond film Goldfinger. In the film, Masterson is the accomplice of the film’s main villain, and is killed after she is discovered to be sleeping with James Bond by having her entire body covered in gold paint, causing her to asphyxiate.

In the upcoming Bond film Quantum of Solace, a deliberately similar fate awaits Gemma Arterton’s character Agent Fields, an MI6 agent assigned to keep tabs on Bond as he attempts to unfold the layers of a very large, very secretive evil organization. In Quantum, Arterton’s character is drowned in crude oil and draped over a bed in a scene that is to be an homage to Goldfinger. Have a look at the scene below:

Mail Online has published the photo, as well as a few others which can be seen in the gallery below, as part of a feature that is running in their Sunday edition. The article also features a few quotes from the 22-year old former St. Trinians star, including an account of what it was like to be covered from head to tow in crude oil:

“I couldn’t move. I couldn’t see, I couldn’t breathe or hear because it went in my ears. It was unpleasant, but it’s something I’ll always remember and it will be an iconic part of the film.”

As well, Arterton also commented on what it was like to lock lips with 007 himself, Daniel Craig. Apparently, her scene came with quite a bit of anticipation:

“I just couldn’t get that image of him walking out of the sea in Casino Royale out of my head. He was very cool and I was a giggling mess. I mumbled something like, ‘I just kissed you!’ and he just said, ‘Yes you did. And now we have to do it again.’”

“Fortunately, he’s an incredible kisser.”

And in case you are wondering, I have also kissed Daniel Craig before — and I concur. Quantum of Solace hits theaters here in the U.S. on November 14th. Have a look at the other pics from Arterton’s slippery scene below.

Friday the 13th: Jason Voorhees Appears Unmasked!

The folks over at HorrorBid.com have posted a few pictures from the set of Platinum Dunes’ upcoming remake of Friday the 13th, many of which feature an unmasked Jason Voorhees. The character, played in this film by Derek Mears, a noted big-man and stunt performer in Hollywood, was played originally in 1980 by Ari Lehman.

This incarnation is directed by Marcus Nispel, who is the man responsible for bringing back The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for producer Michael Bay in 2003. And personally, I was impressed by that remake in that it was an intense experience, but it otherwise did not really live up to the original in the eyes of many fans. The Friday the 13th remake, on the other hand, appears to be getting a lot of great buzz from the horror community, including our own resident horror expert and rageaholic Robert Fure, who reported in with cast interviews at Comic-Con. First Look at Mia Wasikowska in Tim Burton’s Alice

The folks at INF have debuted a few images today from the set of Tim Burton’s next film, a Burtonization of Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice in Wonderland. The film will feature 17-year old Australian actress Mia Wasikowska (pictured above) in the title role. As we told you the other day, it will also feature Burton regular Johnny Depp in the role of the Mad Hatter.

If you click on the image above, you can zip over to INF, where you will find a full range of pictures from the set. Also spotted on set was Tim Burton’s wife Helena Bohnam Carter, their baby daughter (who appears to be dressed up as an extra for the film) and the director himself, seen giving direction to his young star.

Alice in Wonderland will be a part live-action, part CG animation recreation of the classic tale, which will of course include some of the style that has made Burton such an iconic director. It is scheduled to hit theaters March 5, 2010.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno Invades Milan’s Fashion Week

I have been trying like crazy to stay away from news regarding Sacha Baron Cohen’s upcoming film, which is based on Borat’s crazy Austrian fashionista cousin Brüno, but this is just too good. Up until now, the reason we have stayed away from the news is that by reporting it, we could be somehow infringing upon your later enjoyment of the film. But as you look at the image above and read the explanation below, I think you’ll understand that I just couldn’t pass this one up.

According to Telegraph UK, Baron Cohen and his team used fake passes to fool security guards into letting them backstage at the Italian label Iceberg’s Milan Fashion Week show. While one of his team members created a diversion back stage — which, coincidentally involved a man in a head-to-toe velcro suit — Brüno (Baron Cohen) slipped out onto the runway in what can only be described as something out of the Harry Potter universe.

Bruno is due out sometime in May 2009, and is expected by fans to be a hilarious repeat performance akin to Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. And considering the fact that Borat marks the last time that I actually peed myself in a movie theater, I would tend to agree.
