2 New Vibrant ‘Avatar’ Pictures and 1 Dull One

Today marks an historic occasion! There are officially as many pictures from the film Avatar as there are pictures of James Cameron sitting around directing the film Avatar! Put on your party hats, people.

So the last one is pretty clinical, but the first two actually look great. Probably the best two stills from the film I’ve seen so far (other than that riveting one where Cameron is eating a bagel and snagging an Odwalla at the craft services table).

Worthington Poses for Senior Class Photo for ‘Avatar’

I’ve shown my continual hatred toward the promotional campaign for Avatar because it’s, so far, been non-existent save for a few incredibly, mind-blowing, probably CGI images of James Cameron standing around. The reason I’ve been upset? Because the images are just too jaw-droppingly awesome for my mind to handle. James. Cameron. Standing. Around. Don’t even think about it or your eyeball might rupture.

And now the production has released an “official image” which is almost as exciting!

That’s right sports fans, it’s a shot of Sam Worthington taking a fancy prom portrait with his alien counterpart in the background. Oh, Class of 2009, it was a night to remember. I’m not sure I did the 2001: A Space Oddysey theme the planning committee picked out for prom, but it just might be crazy enough to work.

But seriously, this doesn’t even look like a shot from the movie, and Worthington is a fist resting on his chin away from a senior portrait. Kills me.

Your fans are still amped up for this film – don’t lose momentum by continually giving them photographic blue balls. I get the feeling if these types of images continue to come out, people are going to be tired of this movie before it even comes out – no matter how epic it is.

Miyazaki Genius: 13 New Beautiful ‘Ponyo’ Pics

There’s something strange about these new images that a Mouse left on our doorstep, but I can’t quite my finger on it. Maybe it’s the minimalist style that’s rarely done for main characters. Maybe it’s the color choices that Miyazaki and team Ghibli are making. Maybe it’s the fact that they were delivered by a mouse.

Still, they are really beautiful I think. But you should decide for yourself. Stop letting me tell you how to live your life:

It’s definitely a different look, although there’s still a few tell-tale Miyazaki style points – specifically in the image with the whale rider in the ocean and the close-up of the two children’s faces.

Ponyo opens in limited markets on August 14th.

6 Pics Reveal Fantastic Stop-Motion Set for ‘Mr. Fox’

I am just destined to remain in an excited state today! I’m hating that I’m not at Comic-Con, as you can clearly tell by everything I’ve written, but I’m really psyched at all the cool stuff that’s coming out of it and the rest of the movie world.

A few weeks ago, we got a first look at a shot from Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox, and a lot of people emailed us saying they loved it, especially the CGI work. Interestingly enough, what most people don’t realize about the film is that it’s all stop-motion. Now, for the first time, we’re getting a really cool look into the miniature world that Anderson has created. My favorite is the shot of Bill Murray peering through into the house. Click on the images for medium-sized versions, and check out the hi-res versions of the pictures over at USA Today:

The Fantastic Mr. Fox hits theaters on November 13th of this year, starring George Clooney, Michael Gambon, Meryl Streep, Anjelica Huston, Bill Murray and a host of other talents.

Hello everyone! Since Neil and Cole are in jail, I’ve been newly deputized to actually write posts. Be gentle with me.

I wish I could say that my first post ever was an incredible look at an upcoming movie that everyone’s excited about, but it’s not. Not only is it about the new version of A Nightmare on Elm Street, but it’s not even a very great first look. Freddy’s face is all obscured, which makes for great marketing, but doesn’t make for anything else.

It was pretty huge news when they decided to remake the movie, and it was even bigger news when they announced that Jackie Earle Haley was going to take up the role, but this picture could be anyone. Not exactly sure that’s what fans want right now. I’m not even sure if they want a remake or not, actually.

New ‘Rapunzel’ Image Shows Hair Bondage

Ah, yes. The joys of a classic children’s story in which a young, beautiful maiden is trapped by an evil witch and has to sneak her boyfriend up to her room at night by letting him climb her hair. It’s pretty much a retelling of my entire high school career. And, of course, Disney is recreating the classic tale of Rapunzel in Three Full Dimensions.

Now, Comingsoon has the first (mildly crappy) image for the film released over at Planeta Disney. Luckily, it shows off some awesome Hair S&M where Rapunzel has clearly tied up some dude with her golden tresses. It’s not my bag, but I’m sure some people can get off on it.

I have no idea what’s happening in this picture, but it’s the thing of my nightmares. Some woman with a hair fetish is drawing back a curtain to reveal the really shitty happy faces that she’s painted on a wall – forcing some nice young man to struggle against the strength of her braids and admire her artwork. Frightening!

I’m expecting another psychologically scarring experience from Disney.

Starring the voice talents of David Schwimmer and Kristin Chenoweth, the flick opens in 2010.

12 Hi-Res ‘Taking Woodstock’ Pics Show Ang Lee Putting Hippies to Work

Since today seems to be picture day here at Film School Rejects (have your mother order Package H for the extra wallet-sizes), a little birdie dropped these in my email box along with a batch of special brownies. How did I get brownies through an email, you ask? Because I had already eaten a batch.

Obligatory marijuana jokes aside, I think we all know that I’m looking forward to seeing Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock if not just for what will probably be a fantastic soundtrack, but also for some strong performances from Demetri Martin, Imelda Staunton, Emile Hirsch and a dozen others.

We showed you the trailer for it a while back, and thankfully we only have to wait until August 14th to catch it in theaters.

Hey! It’s Some (Better) New ‘Iron Man 2′ Pics!

Yesterday I was like a kid in a candy store with the news – so many interesting stories, great casting in projects to get excited about. Oddly enough, one of them was about Emily Blunt who was at one point going to be Black Widow. And now today, I’ve been kicked out of the candy store with the arrival of some really terrible, awful quality pictures for Iron Man 2 – a movie that I’m sure you’ve been following on twitter. But they do offer a grainy-as-hell first look at Black Widow played by Scarlett Johansson.

This whole situation raises several questions for me:

Were these images digitized by holding the best scanner from 1998 up to a television?
Does anyone really give a crap to see super-grainy images of characters standing?
If Jon Favreau took a picture of Mickey Rourke at the craft service table and tweeted it, everyone would piss their pants to post it right?
Seriously, scanners are actually pretty good now. There have to be better models out there.

I’m told that’s Scarlett Johansson, but, really?
These images, although totally not clear so therefore fairly void, make this thing look super cheesy.
Like, really cheesy.

Since everyone on the planet is posting these images, I hunted down some cleaner ones over at the (surprise!) Entertainment Weekly website. Click on the cover for a seriously giant image:

Hey, at least that actually looks like Scarlett Johansson. Now to work on getting those sweet Jon Favreau karaoke pictures from the wrap party.

Full Body ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Pics Could be PETA Ads

I realize I haven’t written anything in a while, as you may know. Unfortunately, there was a rather large pool invested with people and loud, popular music that I needed to go stake out. Luckily, it turns out there hasn’t been much news anyway. At least nothing all that interesting.

But these are actually really cool.

Just two weeks ago we posted up some Hi-Res art from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland that looked like an 18th century heroin addict’s fever dream. Now, from Planet Disney (via /film) come these full body (although not nearly as Hi-Res) shots of Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, and Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter.

As you can tell, the production team would only need to slap on a PETA logo to have a fantastic little ad campaign.

Jokes aside, these images actually reminded me how animal-heavy the original books were. Basically everything in that kingdom was some version of trippy talking animal life (and food with hilarious instructive labels), so I’m wondering how much fauna is going to be present in this film.

You may be wondering why Alice is so old, but as you may recall, this film isn’t a straight adaptation of the Lewis Carroll books. Instead, it’s a look at a 17-year-old Alice who is brought back to Wonderland while there’s major unrest amongst the insane citizens who are hoping she can save them.

As a major Burton fan who almost never gets tired of his aesthetic, I can barely wait until March of next year to see this thing. At the rate they’re going with material, though, we might be seeing teaser trailers as early as November. No matter what, it seems like we’ll get a ton of production pics and video long before it’s ever in theaters.

First Look: Burton Goes Insane with ‘Alice in Wonderland’

Back in November we posted an image that we thought was fanmade featuring a Johnny Depp Mad Hatter that looked a lot like someone’s grandmother. Now it’s looking like that image might have actually been, seriously, one of the concept images for the production. Weird how that happens. At least, judging by the first official pictures to come out of the production anyway.

Drop some acid, and check them out for yourself:

As you can see, Depp actually looks a lot like the original picture from back in November – crazy red hair, manic eyes and what look like Ron Weasley’s dress robes. Helena Bonham Carter (surprise! she’s in it!) looks like she’s got an incredibly sexy receding hair line, and Anne Hathaway as The White Queen has a very Gandalf the White look to her. I suppose that last one might have inevitable.

I can’t figure out for the life of me whether these images for Alice in Wonderland are creative or not. Here’s why: Tim Burton has a fantastic mind, but we’ve come to expect a certain style from him. So when he delivers on that style, it almost seems like he’s not trying even though he’s delivering exactly what we’d want from him.

Meanwhile, the full shots of the world he’s created do look absolutely gorgeous, so that’s a plus. Check out more of them below, courtesy of USA Today. Alice in Wonderland hits theaters on March 5, 2010.

Monica Bellucci is One Hot Witch

Monica Bellucci has been making this world a bustier and more beautiful place for 44 years. It’s hard to imagine a hotter 44 year old woman. Lucky for all of us she’s been cast in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice as Veronica, who appears to be a busty, beautiful, dress wearing woman, who is possibly and probably a witch of some sort. Although technically the film is calling them “sorceresses” to be politically correct. Lame.

Also on the lame scale – she plays Nicolas Cage’s long lost love. I’ll defend Nic Cage in a lot of areas but this dude is not hot enough to be pulling down primo-tail like Bellucci or Jessica Biel (Next). Hopefully Bellucci’s character spends a lot of time breathing heavily in a low cut dress and very little time interacting romantically with Cage, because otherwise my day dreams are going to be gross instead of sexy. First Look: ‘ZombieLand’ Shows Off Zombie Basics

What do you need to have a great Zombie flick? There are books and books out there discussing the topic, but somehow these pictures for Zombieland perfectly expose the necessities. Luckily, earlier in the evening, we invited Quint from Aint It Cool News over to Reject HQ to watch a The Worst Witch/Murder By Death double feature, beat him over the head with a brick, and stole his images. Did we need to attack him to take the images off his site? Hell no. Consider it a cherry on top. Plus, he sort of looks like a zombie now, so he’s probably geeking out about that – so no hard feelings.

So check these out. You’ve got…

A crew of misfits with shotguns
A guy desperately trying to get into a car with zombies a few inches away
A crazy gun enthusiast who loves killing stuff
A baseball bat to the skull of a somnambulist in a supermarket

Yes, they are all essential elements to any good zombie picture. Looks like director Ruben Fleischer has the foundation laid for what might be a solid little zombie comedy in Zombieland. As you can tell from the pictures, it features Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin. Amber Heard is also in it, so I’m guessing Neil will use that as an excuse to surf for pictures of her.

Disney Shows Off 2D ‘Princess and the Frog’ Pics

I didn’t grow up on Disney, so I don’t get the same mildly inappropriate tingle that everyone else seems to get when people talk about Disney classics. But I do appreciate great artwork, so I have to thank John Lasseter and Ed Catmull for pulling Disney back into the 2D world.

We stirred up a little controversy regarding The Princess and the Frog almost a year ago, but hopefully that entire conversation has run its course so we can all get down to the business of appreciating some incredible animation.

Keep in mind, this is Disney’s return to pencil and paper (although some backgrounds and effects are going to be computer-aided):

The Princess and the Frog is directed by Ron Clements and John Musker who brought the world The Little Mermaid and The Great Mouse Detective. Also, Oprah is involved somehow. I think she either drew a bunch of cels or voices one of the characters.

Artistically, these look fantastic. Really dynamic composition, a lot of color and vibrance (which should help bring out New Orleans in the jazz era), and overall it has me excited for a great-looking film. Although that alligator looks like the doofy cousin of the villains in The Rescuers. Which is kind of awesome.

6 New G.I. Joe Cobra Pics are Riveting

As you can see from the header as well as its full counter-part down below, there’s going to be some riveting done by Channing Tatum in G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra. Either that, or it’s a caulking gun. It’s sort of hard to tell from this angle.

But, wow, do these pictures look lame.

FYI: This movie gets released on August 7th, 2009, and its budget was more than $20.

4 More New Moon Pics and Shirtless Werewolves

You might be wondering why I’m the one writing this up, but unfortunately, when Neil saw these new pics of the Wolf Pack from New Moon, he fainted. Swooned is probably a better word. I tried to pass off the story to Rob Hunter, but he tripped in a puddle of his own drool and hit his head on a desk. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Entertainment Weekly got a few pics from the set as well as a new promo shot of the werewolves. They also have some decently interesting stories from the set regarding some of the story.

As you may already know, the main plot involves Edward (vampire) taking off, leaving Bella heartbroken. Devestated, she strikes up a friendship with Jacob (werewolf). If it sounds like the original story to Top Gun, it should.

It looks like they have got the look they want, and they’re sticking with it. And it’s definitely not a bad aesthetic – the orange flare, sort of Autumnal, and I’ve heard that the ladies love airbrushed abs almost as much as the men do.
