I have received many gifts in my day — including the gift or wordiness — but this box delivered unto me by the lovely Kayla Kromer takes the cake. It is a custom-made Borg Cube gift box, modeled after the famous ship of Star Trek: The Next Generation fame. As you know, I do love me some Star Trek, be it from the original series, the next generation or the most recent J.J. Abrams-led incarnation. So this struck a chord and made me feel all warm inside. And here’s the best news: if you have someone on your gift-giving list that also loves Trek and all her versions, Kayla has put together an easy-to-follow guide to making your own Borg Cube box. As you may have noticed, Disney’s winter hopes hang on the success of Joseph Kosinski’s big budget, CGI spectaculathon Tron Legacy. And they are marketing it appropriately so, with countless posters, banners and boutique shops in Las Angeles where you can buy yourself one of those fancy Daft Punk suits. They’ve even bled the digital revolution into other areas of pop culture, including the comics of Disney’s newly purchased venture, Marvel Enterprises. And while we’d usually scoff at such blatant cross-marketing, we can’t help but admit that the Tron universe version of Iron Man is a total badass, as are several other characters. See for yourself after the jump. According to Comics Alliance, “these variant covers, created by Mark Brooks Brandon Peterson, will roll out in November with select Marvel Comics titles: “Aamazing Spider-Man” #651, “Avengers” #7, “Avengers Academy” #7, “Captain America” #612, “Incredible Hulks” #618, “Invincible Iron Man” #33, “New Avengers” #7, “Secret Avengers” #7, “Thor” #617 and “Wolverine” #4.” They will be available over the next two months in the lead-up to the release of Tron Legacy on December 17th. What if Alfred Hitchcock had gotten the idea for Halloween and made it with Kim Novak and Robert Mitchum? What if Mickey Rourke played Superman? These are the questions that haunt me in the moments just before I close my eyes to go to bed. Fortunately, someone else out there is even more obsessed with the possible worlds out there where Boris Karloff was Freddy Krueger (and the resulting movie posters). Over at Hartter there’s a collection of some of the posters for these alternate moving pictures. We’ve included just 6 of our favorites here, but there are about 30 or so on the site. There are some clever plays here for the seasoned film trivia fan, but for the most part they are relics from a time that never existed. Antiques from a false history. Very, very cool.

If you’re anything like me, you probably watched the series finale of Lost in real-time on Sunday evening. It was an event not unlike the Superbowl for me. I ate food prepared on an outdoor grill, I drank more beer than should be consumed by a regular human, and there was much yelling and screaming at the television. And like the Superbowl, there were a few special commercials.

It must be noted that all of the companies that advertised sunscreen during the Lost finale really missed a big marketing opportunity. “Stuck on an island? Use our new SPF 100…” This couldn’t have been obvious to me and me alone. However, much credit goes to the marketers at Target, who unleashed a delightful trio of commercials that matched the various iconic elements of Lost — like the Smoke Monster, wild boars and the computer where believers enter in the numbers every 108 minutes. It was a lot of fun, and an experience you can relive below.

For more on the finale of Lost, be sure to read Genevieve’s Definitive Guide to WTF Just Happened on Lost and/or head over to our Lost Series Finale Discussion to give us your own thoughts on the end of one of television’s most memorable shows.

Well, wonder no more!

There are two reasons why these are officially cool. The first is that they’re done really well – evoking that Saturday Morning Cartoon style that almost has me believing that J.J. Abrams and company plan on taking the island and its mysteries to children eating Super Sugar O’s. Think about it: kids love sexual tension and gut shots.

Secondly, the artist’s name is Michael Myers. Since there’s no way two people can have the same name (I checked), I have to assume that this artist has a particular knife to grind with Laurie Strode and should probably look into a lawsuit against Rob Zombie for rape.

I’ve included the cartoon versions of Desmond, The Smoke Monster and Mr. Eko, but you should really head over the Myers’s site to see the full cast. These things would look great on a shirt:

Don’t tell me The Smoke Monster isn’t the Slimer of the bunch.

It’s all about 2D retro gaming characters who set out to reformat New York City. It’s an incredible little piece that will tickle just about anyone who grew up in the early days of video games. If you played arcade games, owned an Atari 2600 or an original NES, then you’re going to love the attention to detail in the video below. Kudos for our friend Peter Hall at Cinematical for picking this one up.
Yes, I am absolutely nabbing this one from /Film. Thanks to our lovely commenters for pointing it out anyway, though. These videos are — without a shadow of a doubt — the coolest damned thing I’ve seen all week. And as you know, I see some pretty cool stuff on average. The folks over at SuperPunch first linked up this pair of videos that take a Saul Bassian approach to the opening titles of two great geek properties — Lost and Tron.

The were created by a mysterious Vimeo user named ‘Hexagonall’ who almost perfectly channels the minimalist style of Bass, who is known for his poster and title work for the likes of Stanley Kubrick and Alfred Hitchcock. My personal favorite Bass title sequence is North by Northwest, for obvious reasons (it’s brilliant, I tell you). And as a fan of both Lost and Tron, I can’t begin to tell you how much the two videos below tickle my fancy. So much so, that I’ve begun using the phrase “tickle my fancy” unironically. It’s been a strange day, friends.

Earlier today I was directed to the Vimeo page of filmmaker Joe Nicolosi. You may have never heard of him, nor are you likely to have seen his work. However, I’ve seen his work. Over and over and over again. Then again, if you’ve seen Star Wars: Retold, then I suppose you have, too.

Nicolosi created the bumper video for the SXSW midnight selection. For those not familiar with film festival bumpers, they are sometimes-quick shorts that play in front of every film to remind you of (a) what festival you’re attending and (b) what this year’s theme is. In the case of the Sundance 2010 bumpers, they all fit into a very clear theme — rebellion. For SXSW 2010, there wasn’t much of a discernible theme. In fact, Nicolosi’s bumper was the only one that made sense at all. Luckily, it was the one I saw most often — and was the most entertaining.

I’ve embedded the video below for your viewing pleasure. It was shot over a weekend using a Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR, which is even more impressive. And it stars the lovely Aimee Thomas. For interested filmmakers, Nicolosi will also be writing a series of tutorials about his work on this project over at FishRockit.com.

Just in case the fever generated by the newly released Iron Man 2 trailer has not worn off just yet, Paramount Pictures has released a set of images showing us what some of the in-theater marketing for the film will look like. This includes a theater standee that features both Iron Man and War Machine, and one for each individual character. They’ve also released a new photo that features both characters. All of this can be seen by clicking around the image gallery below.

The ladies (and guys) over at All Things Fangirl posted a link to a pretty awesome website called Springfield Punx. Springfield Punx is basically a fan-site that takes various iconic characters from pop culture, and Simpsonizes them. Now this isn’t just some random fan art that is pretty good, this is great looking work that rivals what you’d see on the show. Obviously the Lost parody drew me to the site, but I also decided to post another favorite of mine for you kids to enjoy. Check it out, tell me what you think.

We have been talking about posters from Mondo Tees for a while now, and for good reason. Their posters exist in two places – on my walls, and in the dreams of movie gods. Their newest 24×36 piece of awesome just hit the web a few minutes ago. Make way for one of the coolest Terminator 2 posters you will ever see. If you have never seen a D&L screenprint with metallic inks in person, you are missing out my friend. It’s almost as powerful as the first time you saw an R rated movie. Don’t take my word for it though, try to snag one of these bad boys if you can. It seems they are already sold out, but eBay is always an option.

I was turned on to the folks over at TeeFury a few weeks ago, and I have visited their site every day since. Basically they have a community of graphic artists who design a t-shirt a day, and release them for a limited time. Seriously, their tees are only available for 24 hours, and then they are gone forever.

Today’s shirt made me laugh, out loud. I am not the biggest GI Joe fan, but I was sure to order this one right away. If this tee doesn’t make you laugh, then I will buy yours*. Be sure to check out TeeFury’s constant stream of awesome shirts. Some are Film/TV related, but all are usually awesome. Check out the newest tee for the collection:

*This of course is subject to me actually hearing you not laugh, seeing you not laugh, and if it is done promptly on February 29, 2010.

You have to hand it to those kids over at /Film, they do find some fun videos out there on the internet. This one, titled Battlestar Rhapsody, is a play on the Queen song “Bohemian Rhapsody” with the entire series of Battlestar Galactica as its subject. Everything from the attack on the 12 colonies to the show’s epic final season are included (so beware of spoilers). I have to say, this gets an A+ for resourceful creativity, and another A grade for execution. The song doesn’t always rhyme, but the chorus nearly knocked me on my ass:

I see a little opera house inside my head.
There were five, dressed in white, or perhaps it was Gandalf?
Galen’s gonna go nuts. Who ate all the donuts? Lee?
Lee Apollo! Lee Apollo!
Lee Apollo! Lee Apollo!
Lee Apollo ate them whole.
He’s saying “D’oh!” “D’oh!” “D’oh!” “D’oh!” “D’oh!”
Three’s just a skin-job, nobody loves her.
Three’s just a skin-job, princess warrior.
She drives a Hybrid, a prophecizor!

Hilarious. Watch the entire video below, which was created by by Youtube user nnaylime, using music by The Great Luke Ski.

20th Century Fox continues to release more promotional materials for James Cameron’s Avatar. And while I wouldn’t normally want to give any movie this much free advertising, I can’t help but think that some of this stuff is really cool. Just this morning, I’ve flagged about 10 stories that I pick up, all related to Avatar. On a slow news day such as this, it makes it difficult not to fill the site’s homepage with blue cat people.

No matter how many other Avatar posts I write today, I know that I’m starting with the coolest of them all. Fox has released an interactive trailer for the film on its official website, powered by Adobe AIR. The trailer works much like an interactive feature on a Blu-ray disc, in which you watch the trailer and are giving cues to click away to other smaller featurettes. It works for both Windows and Mac (must have AIR installed, which is free) and can be found by clicking the screenshot below or heading to the official Avatar website.

This morning while recording the latest episode of Fat Guys at the Movies, I was alerted by my colleague Kevin Carr of a video — a video of the internet variety — that I had not yet seen. This is odd, as Kevin is usually the last person to know about awesome videos such as this. But hey, I can’t complain, as we here at Reject HQ have been on Fantastic Flu watch all week, so we’re a bit disconnected. So if you’ve seen this video already, I apologize. This one goes out to the folks who have been as out of the loop as myself the past few days…

The folks at Landline TV have put together a spoof of the Where the Wild Things Are trailer called “Everyone Poops.” It is based on the popular children’s book “Everyone Poops,” by Taro Gomi. It follows the story of a young girl who is discovering something special about herself…

Where the Wild Things Are opens on October 16th.

Check out Nudie Poltergeist, C-Cup Carrie, Full Frontal Frankenstein, and the Psycho Shower!

As a red blooded male who loves seeing red blood spilled, there’s nothing quite so awesome as a bunch of hot naked girls posing in classic horror situations. So imagine my delight when checking my email I’m notified that Nerdcore, the popular merging of Nerd culture and Hot chicks, has got their 2010 poster ready to be ordered and the them is horror! Now, you have may have clicked into this article today thinking “Hey, what movie are you recommending?” But today I’m recommending this calendar instead of a movie. We’ve got 28 more movies coming your way soon. 31 Days of Horror is about everything horror, not just movies. Last year we talked about comics and this year I’m talking about nudie girls. We’re moving in the right direction.

Take a look at these hot preview images and give a read to what the fine folks over at Nerdcore have to say about the year 2010:

No genre has been more synonymous with nerds and nudity than the horror, which is why Nerdcore got a little bit bloody for 2010. From the classics to the controversial, this 4th Annual calendar features pinups of all varieties: cover model Jana Jordan getting paranormal with a TV set, sultry scream queen Justine Joli in the most vintage of psychotic shower scenes, Bobbi Starr sewn together (literally) in a more naked version of Frankenstein, as well as Aria Giovanni, Kayla Jane Danger, Karlie Montana, Mosh, and Zoli Suicide getting their scream on.

Sexy, not scary. Nerdcore 2010.

If you’re not interested in this Calendar, I’m not interested in you. (I’m kidding I still love you. I love you less than I did 45 seconds ago. But that’s your fault.) Anyway, these giant oversized calendars are printed on heavy, glossy paper feature more than just hot, nerdy girls, like important dates – both for lame things like Holidays and for cool things like movie release dates and nerd trivia. You can get yours for $25. I’ve hung Nerdcore on my wall before and I can say these are pretty awesome calendars. Definitely better than 12 months of kittens. But barely. I love kittens. But not as much as I love boobs. So buy one. Or five. You know, in case “something happens” to one.

Check out some handy preview photos below. Click below to see the UNCENSORED versions. WARNING: If you click the images below, you will see the versions that CONTAIN NUDITY. These images are not suitable for anyone under the age of 18.
