Movie News After Dark: How Obama Saved Star Wars, Webcomics and Kaiju Attacks!
Movie News By Neil Miller on November 29, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly mashing together of things about film and television because that’s what the kids on the Internet are into these days — mashing things together. Obama Wan Kenobi – We begin this evening with an oddly drawn but somewhat sensible conclusion about what Barack Obama had to do with saving Star Wars. And by “saving,” we’re of course referring to the part where George Lucas sold Star Wars and LucasFilm to Disney, placing it in capable, active hands that will no doubt save it with many wonderful films that have nothing to do with the prequels. Or something like that. Either way, /Film found this link and I say it’s worth a read.
Movie News After Dark: Who Will Guard The Galaxy? How Will Movies Make Money Without Piracy? Pizza!
Movie News By Neil Miller on November 28, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? According to everything that has happened in tonight’s entry already, it appears to be quite inquisitive. All of your questions and more will be answered. Tonight’s lead story is also tonight’s leading non-story about leading men. Who will be the leader of Guardians of the Galaxy, the next big Marvel Studios project that supposedly has James Gunn in the directors chair. Deadline offers up a list of guys who you’ve seen on the big screen recently, courtesy of Tammy’s brother Joey’s cousin Suzie who knows a guy, but not that well. So there’s that.
Movie News After Dark: The Greatest Photo of All-Time and Other Items of Interest
Movie News By Neil Miller on November 27, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? Tonight, it’s beside itself… We begin this evening with a photo of Gary Oldman and Michael K. Williams on the set of Robocop, in which they both will undoubtedly bring their usual level of quality. It’s unrivaled, the sort of awesome that exists in this one still image. The only thing that could possibly be better would be some sort of random, inexplicable Peter Weller photobomb. But lets just leave that up to the photoshoppers, shall we?
Movie News After Dark: Let’s Catch Up On This Business About ‘The Hobbit’
Movie News By Neil Miller on November 26, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly column that counts down the best links and notes of the day. Today, it has a theme. Because who doesn’t love a good theme? We begin our unexpected journey (see what I did there?) with all kinds of marketing and news for The Hobbit, because there isn’t enough going around about this movie. The folks in New Zealand are especially stoked. Air New Zealand even painted some characters on their plane. Somewhere Murray from Flight of the Conchords is admitting defeat. Or he’s doing last-minute ADR work for The Hobbit. Either way…
Movie News After Dark: Louie Does Lincoln and 7 Other Things You Should See
Movie News By Neil Miller on November 5, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? It’s the definitive voice heard late at night. Well, it depends upon what room of the house you’re in, but it’s pretty unmistakable. It’s loud, it talks about movies and TV shows and it does not appreciate it when you just feign interest. We begin this evening with a shot of Ken Watanabe in the forthcoming Japanese remake of Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven. See, they remake our stuff, too. Although I’m sure this will be much better than the American version of Ringu.
17 Posters for ‘The Hobbit’ and 7 Other Things You Should See Tonight
Movie News By Neil Miller on November 2, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? It happens thrice times per week. It’s awesome. You can read it. Right now. We begin this evening’s marketing-heavy edition of Movie News After Dark with the absurdity of the day. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first in a new trilogy from Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, now has seventeen character posters that can be ogled. It’s a little much, even for what may turn out to be the biggest film of the year. Above you’ll see Dwalin, a badass dwarf. Just after the jump, Gandalf and his fall collection.
The Joker, Two-Face and 8 Other Great Movie Themed Pumpkins for Halloween
Movie News By Neil Miller on October 31, 2012 | Be the First To CommentIt’s Halloween, so lets be honest with ourselves: movie news just isn’t quite the flavor of the evening. With that in mind, we’d like to present a very special edition of Movie News After Dark, celebrating awesome movie-themed pumpkin carvings. Sure, some of these have been around for a while, but some might be new. All are awesome. So check out these pumpkins as you eat the candy you “forgot” to pass out to the neighborhood kids.
Mitt Romney Debates Billy Madison and 7 Other Things You Should Read Today
Movie News By Neil Miller on October 29, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? It’s the thing that will comfort you during the storm. In this case the storm is Hurricane Sandy, who is currently laying down a ravaging to our beloved readers on the East Coast. And the comforting is in the form of the eight best links of the day, all of which will lead you to great reads, listens, watches and otherwise marvelous, nerdy things to look at. 1. We begin this evening with a calculated takedown of the weekend’s biggest new movie, Cloud Atlas. For well over a week, I’ve been struggling to come to terms with my own feelings on the latest from Wachowski Starship. It’s complex, grande and full of moments that are worthy of awe. But it’s also a big mess. And Zach Baron at Grantland’s Cloud Atlas is an overscrambled mess article is perhaps the most adept explanation of the balance between the great and the not-so-great.
Movie News After Dark: Frankenweenie, Dredd and Plenty of Bond, James Bond
Movie News By Neil Miller on October 5, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly movie news column that’s taking it easy on this Friday evening. Expect fun, happy thoughts heading your way in the news rundown below… We begin this relaxed Friday evening edition of MNAD with a shot from the Frankenweenie art exhibition currently going down at Disney’s California Adventure. Our friends at ScreenCrave posted some shots from around the gallery. As you know, I was quite fond of Frankenweenie. And I like art shows.
Movie News After Dark: The Dark Knight Returns, Extended Hobbit, Bond Music, John Hughes and Cooking with Christopher Walken
Movie News By Neil Miller on October 4, 2012 | Comments (1)What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly movie news column that does not need an animated continuation. It just goes on and on with very live action. We begin this evening with a shot from The Dark Knight Returns: Part 2, the animated follow-up to The Dark Knight Returns. Warner Home Video has released the image with a promise to show some footage at the upcoming New York Comic-Con. This should continue to hold you off until Warner Bros. can figure out what they’re doing with live-action Batman. Or at least until the Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy is available on Blu-ray.
Movie News After Dark: The Presidential Debate, Prometheus Spoilers, Looper Loops and Mad Men
Movie News By Neil Miller on October 3, 2012 | Comments (1)What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly movie news column that isn’t so political. Unless you consider watching the Presidential Debate and imagining the candidates as Muppets to be political… We begin this evening with the nation’s top story — no, not Saturday Night Live — the Presidential Debate. That will undoubtedly be the reason why tonight’s column is coming in late. And because I love hyperbole, I’m not only watching the debate, but also reading Andrew Sullivan having an aneurism and watching CNN’s talking heads go crazy. Also, someone said Lincoln. That movie is out in November. But enough politics, lets do the movie news…
Movie News After Dark: Argo, Johnny Carson, William Friedkin, Mockingjay and Herzog on Futility
Movie News By Neil Miller on October 1, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly movie news column that brings you only the most excellent links, news items, art and moving images from around the web. It’s also glad to be back in the saddle now that guest author week is over. First up tonight, a big round of applause for Ryan Gallagher of The Criterion Cast for stepping in last week and filling in while I gorged myself on the bloody mess known as Fantastic Fest. It made the festival experience that much more enjoyable to know that fans of this column were being treated to some excellent writing. Maybe we’ll convince him to come back again in the future. We begin our news night with one of over 30 new images from Argo, the Ben Affleck directed drama that’s getting all sorts of buzz. Even our own Rob Hunter is said to have liked it a lot…
Movie News After Dark: Trailer War, Peter Pan On Blu-ray, And Prometheus Cover Art
Movie News By Ryan Gallagher on September 28, 2012 | Be the First To CommentIt has been a real treat, hanging out with you all here on Film School Rejects this week, but today I head back home to CriterionCast.com. I won’t be leaving you empty handed, as there have been some excellent links, images and clips going around today that you all should certainly check out.
Movie News After Dark: A Dwarf-Filled Poster, Sakai’s 47 Ronin, And A Dystopian Short Film
Movie News By Ryan Gallagher on September 27, 2012 | Comments (1)The week has flown by, and I’ve had a blast sharing links, videos, and images with you all. I still have one more day behind the wheel of this ship, and I intend to bring you all kinds of goodies. While today is another one of those slow news days as everyone winds down at Fantastic Fest, and prepares for the New York Film Festival, I managed to find some pretty neat things in my feed reader.
Movie News After Dark: Mondo Prints, Cinderella Sketches, And Dark Knight Discs
Movie News By Ryan Gallagher on September 26, 2012 | Comments (1)While today certainly feels like a slow news day, the Internet has provided a ton of great links to share with you all. I’ve felt compelled to keep my links strictly film related over the past couple of days, but I think you’ll appreciate some of the geeky, non-film stuff today.
Movie News After Dark: Noah’s Snakes, A German Snake, And IMAX Atlas Posters
Movie News By Ryan Gallagher on September 25, 2012 | Comments (1)Somehow, despite my failings as a WordPress user, I have been allowed to return to you tonight with a collection of links that went around the Internet today. Above you might notice an image with a bunch of snakes, an alligator, and some lights. Neat, huh? Well that just so happens to be our first look inside the Ark that Darren Aronofsky is building for Russell Crowe’s Noah. Aronofsky’s cinematographer, Matthew Libatique tweeted the image earlier, but appears to have deleted since.
Movie News After Dark: Rian Johnson Raps, Devin Faraci Punches, Star Wars, The Hobbit, Pixar and More!
Movie News By Ryan Gallagher on September 24, 2012 | Comments (2)Welcome to the first installment of the CriterionCast takeover of Movie News After Dark. While Neil spends the week singing karaoke, or whatever it is that you kids do at Fantastic Fest, I’ll attempt to fill his manly, bearded shoes with my own geeky art-house sensibilities. Speaking of Fantastic Fest, the folks handling the PR have been releasing a ton of great material for all of us non-attendees, to soothe the pain. Apparently Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick, Brothers Bloom) joined in on the nerd karaoke fun that everyone was talking about this weekend, and they sent out a hefty pack of high resolution images, to help prove what we already know to be true: Rian Johnson is the coolest.
Movie News After Dark: The Fantastic Fest Vacuum and Next Week’s Guest Author
Movie News By Neil Miller on September 21, 2012 | Be the First To CommentWhat is Movie News After Dark? After a few days of not posting, who even knows anymore. As many of you have seen, this week began Fantastic Fest. And as I’ve done every year without learning any important lessons or growing as a person, I made the mistake of thinking I could take on the first few days of Fantastic Fest and publish a few entries into the Movie News After Dark series. Several alcoholic beverages, seven films and a half-bottle of ibuprofen later and I’m once again in a position to learn a powerful lesson about overcommitment (I won’t). Fear not though, good friends and beloved readers, as Movie News After Dark has a hero. He just doesn’t start until Monday.
Movie News After Dark: Game of Thrones, James Cameron’s Jurassic Park and Superhero Romances
Movie News By Neil Miller on September 17, 2012 | Comments (1)What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly news column that’s struggling on a slow-news Monday. Luckily there’s plenty of poster art to go around. Our evening begins with a behind the scenes shot from the production of Game of Thrones and its sure to be epic third season. It’s not telling us much, but the official production blog kicking into high gear is enough to whet the whistles of many a fan, including yours truly.
Movie News After Dark: Dredd, You’re Next, Oogieloves, Skyfall, Looper Art and Fantastic Fest Bumpers
Movie News By Neil Miller on September 14, 2012 | Comments (1)What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly news column that doesn’t always have something to say. But when it does, the geeks of the world listen. We begin this evening with some great DREDD concept art found by the folks at Comic Book Movie, picked up via Germain Lussier’s ever-excellent Superhero Bits column. The excitement I have for this, one of Fantastic Fest’s big name films, has gone through the roof as more reactions come in, including that of our own Nathan Adams at TIFF.
