Ever since the release of the first full-length trailer for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, hardcore science fiction geeks have had one thing on their minds: what in the heck (they don’t swear) is up with that young Kirk jumping from a car scene?

In a recent interview with MTV, director J.J. Abrams assured fans that there is nothing silly about his Star Trek movie — except that little scene where Captain Kirk becomes The Nutty Professor.

Stop the presses! An Oscar winning writer wants to make a big, beautiful original space movie. Not a remake, not a reboot, but something that comes from the depths of imagination.

We can only hope that director J.J. Abrams knew what he was getting himself into when he signed on to direct a reboot of the Star Trek franchise, because as they say, “Here comes the crazy.”
