Today’s a big day for all of you deal hunters and Arrested Development lovers out there. Amazon has put the entire series, all 8 discs worth, on sale for $28.99 for the next 24-hours. This set usually retails for $110 — that’s 80% off for those keeping score at home.

If you’re not familiar with Arrested Development, it is the unfortunately short-lived Fox show that starred Jason Bateman as Michael Bluthe, a noble man born into the world’s least noble family. After his father’s (Jeffrey Tambor) business dealings finally land him in deep trouble with the government, Michael must step up and keep his family — complete with an alcoholic mother (Jessica Walter), his neurotic sister (Portia Di Rossi) and her sexually ambiguous husband (David Cross) and his idiot magician brother (Will Arnett) — from eating each other alive. It is quite possibly the second greatest comedy to ever grace the world’s television listings, right up there behind Seinfeld.

And with all of the excitement and buzz around the Arrested Development movie that is currently in, er, development, this would make a perfect gift for the AD-lover on your list. The set includes all three seasons of the new Battlestar Galactica TV show and the TV movie Razor. This would be a great way for any fan to get completely caught up on BSG before the new season starts in January. For those not familiar, Battlestar Galactica is the reboot of the classic 1980s franchise that tells the story of a group of humans on the run in search of Earth after the destruction of their home planets, known as the 12 colonies, by Cylon (bio-mechanical beings with a lust for the end of humanity) invaders.

The Movie Lover’s Mini-Guide to Black Friday

As a veteran of the retail sales industry I know just how ridiculous things can get on Black Friday. In fact, tomorrow will mark the first Black Friday in almost a decade where I will not be rising at 2 a.m., throwing on some Blue and Khaki and heading out to serve the masses. What will I be doing tomorrow? I will be sitting around the house in my underoos, playing XBOX and catching up on a pile of Blu-ray reviews that I have been avoiding. But just because I won’t be out there with you in the exodus of consumerism, that doesn’t mean I can’t give you a few tips and suggestions.

First, a few Black Friday shopping tips:

Patience is your key to survival. You will wait in line, you will run into annoying people and you will get shitty service. Smile and remember that you don’t have to work.
Drink lots of water. I can’t tell you how many consumers I’ve seen pass out over years. All the salt and alcohol that you ingested on Thanksgiving is going to catch up with you, so stay hydrated.
Consult the ads ahead of time. If there is a special promotion you want, know what you are supposed to get and how much it is going to cost. Nothing is more annoying than someone who is out shopping on Black Friday, completely oblivious to what is on sale.
Don’t be a douche. This is a request from a former retail manager. You should understand a few things: 1. Store policies are there for a reason. And 2. The only people who have it worse than you are the people working in these stores. They are not there to be on the receiving end of your frustrated outbursts.

Just a few little tips to keep you both sane and happy on Black Friday. And now, a few deals that might interest some of our movie-loving readers. We begin with some deals on Blu-ray players. Note: Make sure you check your local ads, as these deals are not guaranteed in all stores.

Get out there and get those Blu-ray players, folks. I need more readers for my Blu-ray Report column. And speaking of Blu-ray, there are a few retailers who have some great BD deals. Best Buy, Walmart and Target all have a selection of discs for around $15. The best deal that I found was Amazon.com, which has a pretty solid selection of both DVD and Blu-ray. The other beautiful thing about Amazon is that they are matching BestBuy.com and Walmart.com’s prices on some of the really cheap DVD deals. I scored Planes, Trains and Automobiles for $3.99. I would call that a win.
