God Bless the late great Paul Newman, but I don't care if Cruise got his blessing for a remake of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the idea of Cruise as Sundance and John Travolta as Butch Cassidy, makes me want to hurl.

I’ll just throw my prejudice down like a gauntlet in this first paragraph. I’m not a fan of John Travolta or Tom Cruise. And God Bless the late great Paul Newman, but I don’t care if Cruise got his blessing for a remake of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the idea of Cruise as Sundance and John Travolta as Butch Cassidy, makes me want to hurl. And I don’t usually use the word hurl so I have to be pretty worked up to add it to my vocabulary.

It’s not merely that the 1969 film was written by William Goldman, directed by George Roy Hill, showcased great performances and chemistry by Robert Redford and Paul Newman AND had a score by Burt Bacharach that somehow while ignoring everything about the Old West fit the film perfectly. It’s not merely that it’s a great movie.

There’s the fact that while Cruise might be able to summon up a Sundance kid at 46, Redford was 33 and just nailed the role completely. Travolta as Butch Cassidy? Don’t get me started. How wrong for a role can an actor be? Maybe he should put the awful “woman suit” back on from his role in Hairspray and play Etta Place.

I know, I know, I’m being harsh. The word is that making this remake is a “labor of love” for Tom Cruise. Well, Tom, if you love it that much then pay for a pristine print of the film to be released on DVD with a nice little commentary from you which says you love the film so much you decded not to make your own version. You and John Travolta can do a remake of Grumpy Old Men.

My question to all of you movie buffs out there is does this idea make you want to hurl?

Today's crazy rumor: Fox is looking to reboot the Fantastic Four franchise, again again. This time they are looking to make it more like Iron Man. As in, it will actually be a good movie that makes a lot of money.

I love these kinds of stories — they generally come to us from some site (or major TV network’s movie blog that will remain nameless) that heard some executive or even worse, someone’s agent talking about a project that “would be cool” or “could work.” But as we all know, these things so often end up as stains on the mattresses of fans, the classic shoulda, coulda, wouldas of the movie world. And unfortunately for the “fanboy” community, this happens all too often in the world of comic adaptations. Why? Because people like to talk about these highly marketable properties, that’s why.

Today’s big comic-related rumor comes to us from IESB. They are saying that “word around town” is that 20th Century Fox is looking to reboot the Fantastic Four franchise. The reboot would be a eying a tone that is “less bubble gum” and more along the lines of what Iron Man was, a film with enough edge to keep fans interested and enough mainstream appeal to find big box office success. And it makes sense, seeing as the two Tim Story directed Fantastic Four movies were decidedly goofy, earning mixed reactions from die-hards and casual moviegoers alike. But even with the poor reviews, both films did gross over $130 million domestically and $275 million world wide. And with each on a budget of $100-130 million, that take isn’t too bad. So the question is this: why would you need to reboot a franchise such as Fantastic Four? To appease fans? Doubtful. To continue to cash in on recognizable properties because you can’t successfully bring any other good properties to the screen? Yeah, that’s more like it.

It is my professional opinion that you should not get your hopes up about something like this — once someone at Fox gets back on the logic train, this project could very well die under the banner of “yeah, there really isn’t a good reason to do that.” At least not so soon. And while it could be interesting to see this franchise get some life under a new director, new cast and new vision, there’s another thing we haven’t considered: where is this rumor really coming from? A source named as “word around town”? There is no producer attached, no one championing this cause and not even a wish list of writers and/or directors. To say that this rumor were thin would be an understatement. That, and this reboot would be a bad idea. Plain and simple.

Anyone care to argue for this idea?

We know. It's pretty much just an excuse to start discussion and search for pictures of Megan Fox. We're okay with that.

Feel free to file this as a crazy rumor for now. IGN is duplicating a story printed up by Latino Review that covered the Spanish-based Europa Press story that Megan Fox might be in talks to take up the role of Lara Croft. If that doesn’t sound like totally believable news, I’m not sure what does.

Basically, that would mean that a third film in a franchise that hasn’t been greenlit yet, would be 1) greenlit and 2) at the casting phase already which means it has a) financing and b) a production team.

However implausible (for now), it does raise an important question: Would it be cool for Megan Fox to play Lara Croft?

Of course, by “important,” I mean “ridiculous yet fun.”

This is totally opening up our message board to a discussion about cup size, isn’t it?

What do you think? Could Fox take up the role of Lara Croft? Could she step into the…shoes…of Angelina Jolie? Is she actually big enough to carry her own film? Really?

Two major animation projects might be on the rocks because the coffers are looking empty for Imagi.

We’re probably going to be, unfortunately, reporting on several projects that are being redlighted because of a lack of funds.

According to a rumor being spread by Firstshowing, Imagi Animation is hurting for cash, and Astroboy and Gatchaman are going to pay the price. We haven’t seen much to confirm the rumor, although there have been some rumblings on the ground that Astroboy was in trouble. However, it has the deeper implications that workers at Imagi are being asked not to show up to work after the end of the week.

Recession!

Hopefully the films will be on schedule – and not redlighted as rumored – since Astroboy is slated for a release on October 23rd. So keep your fingers crossed.

However, if you do get flustered by possibly good movies being shut down, you can always take your frustration out on the recession by TPing Bernie Madoff’s house.

What do you think? Will you miss Astroboy if it goes away? How bad do you want to TP that Ponzi-scheming asses house? A ton? Me too.

In order to keep itself occupied, the internet has gone and replaced last week's ridiculous Batman 3 rumors with even more ridiculous casting rumors about Iron Man 2. Think two stoners as Iron Man's most vicious foes...

There was a moment in this past summer’s awesome action extravaganza known as Iron Man, that now brings about the kiss of irony. It was an early scene in the caves of Afghanistan in which the film’s second-level bad guy, a member of the “10 Rings” known as Raza (played by Faran Tahir), is delivering his monologue about Genghis Khan and the power of weapons. And after delivering his monologue, he turns toward the camera and says “and soon it will be my turn.” In that moment he looks just like Harold and Kumar’s Kal Penn. No joke. Every time I watch the movie and see that particular scene, all I can think about is Kal Penn.

So it makes sense that in the process of replacing ridiculous Batman 3 rumors with even more ridiculous Iron Man 2 rumors, that we’re now talking about John Cho, Penn’s Harold and Kumar co-star, as one of Iron Man’s upcoming foes. Marc Bernardin over at Entertainment Weekly is claiming today that his not-so-reliable sources tell him that Cho is being considered for the role of Mandarin, Iron Man’s most prominent (and fancily dressed) arch nemesis. As Bernardin calls it, this would make for the “Asian Geek Trifecta,” as Cho has now played Harold the lovable stoner and Sulu in the upcoming Star Trek reboot. And while I can think of better “Asian geek” characters (most of whom will undoubtedly be played by Shia LaBeouf in upcoming adaptations), I’m willing to go along with Bernardin’s hyperbole, assuming his story turns out to be true — which it won’t.

I know that these rumors are ass because they don’t stop with Cho, the continue right on to comedic legend and all-star stoner Tommy Chong, said to be in the running to play the Mandarin’s father. Lets face the cold, hard reality of the situation here, people — these rumors are just plain stupid. Equally as stupid is Mr. Bernardin’s commentary on said rumors, found below:

Does that sound real enough to start a casting rumor? Feels like it to me. After all, was there any more than that to go on when people started talking about Tim Robbins in Iron Man 2, Eddie Murphy as the Riddler in Batman 3, or Rachel Weisz as Catwoman in the same? (Let the record show that I am 100 percent in favor of a Rachel Weisz Catwoman.)

Is it a popularity thing, is that why people feel the need to start these rumors? What purpose do they serve, other to make people think you know more than anyone else? Why do these baseless rumors get any traction at all? Surely, we’ve got more important things to do with our time.

That said, I really would like to see Rachel Weisz as Catwoman. Which of these rumors do you wish were true? And, hey, wanna start one while you’re at it?

Really? This guy actually gets paid to write this drivel? Of course he’s just poking fun at us, the rest of us in the online world that is. These rumors are fabricated to prove a point, that we the fanboys of the internet will believe just about anything. Well we’re not laughing Mr. Bernardin… You sir, are a douche bag. My hope is that Jon Favreau does cast John Cho as The Mandarin, and like Heath Ledger as The Joker, it turns out to be a brilliant move. Then maybe Entertainment Weekly will get their heads out of their asses and get rid of idiots such as those who would simply poke fun at the rest of us. Who knows, maybe they’ll hire some of these internet writers who keep out scooping them.

Need a reason to cry yourself to sleep tonight? Check out these two ridiculous Wonder Woman-related rumors, they should be more than enough.

This weekend brought us not one, but two ridiculous rumors related to the long-ballyhooed production of Wonder Woman, a project that Warner Bros. just can’t seem to get straight. At this point, we have been through so many rumors about this film, I would venture to doubt that anyone remembers when it was in the hands of Joss Whedon. Since then, it has been rumored to be a Wachowski Bros. project, among other things. Additionally, there have been countless casting rumors, most of which don’t even make sense and some of which were completely made up by fans — like the poster that hit the web last week of Megan Fox as the Queen of the Amazons.

But back on point, here is what has been shaken from the Wonder Woman rumor tree this week. First up is that former Destiny’s Child lead singer and extremely mediocre actress Beyoncé Knowles told The LA Times that she “has her eye on the role of Wonder Woman.” Check the full quote in all of its shamelessly promoting glory below:

“I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?” said Beyonce. “After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking to myself, ‘OK, I need to be a superhero’. Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there’s also an action element that I would enjoy.”

I’m sorry Beyoncé, but no. You might have some of the look of Wonder Woman, but that doesn’t mean that you can act — and you’ve proven to us time and time again that you really don’t have what it takes. In order for Warner Bros. to kick-start the rest of their DC Comics line-up (aside from Batman, of course), they are going to need something more than Jay-Z’s girlfriend to carry the load.

Moving on, the next rumor is that Warner Bros.’ is eyeing their second favorite new franchise man McG for the director’s chair. According to a report from IESB, McG has talked about doing a Wonder Woman flick with some of the higher-ups at WB. Of course, ‘just talking’ could be anything from a casual “That could be fun” over lunch to a “Pencil that in after I finish my Terminator trilogy” after a few drinks. Either way, it isn’t really something to be taken seriously. McG wouldn’t be a terrible choice for Wonder Woman, but I think that the fans deserve more here — they have suffered through so many failed attempts to get this thing rolling that when WB finally gets it done, it had better be great. That, and I’d like to see how McG does with Terminator before we move him on to another high profile franchise, okay?

What do you think of these rumors? Would you be alright with Beyoncé in the Wonder Woman getup or McG in the director’s chair?

It isn't the first time that we've found some common ground with actor Terrence Howard, but it is the most recent. Today, like Howard, we find ourselves befuddled.

It isn’t the first time that we’ve found some common ground with actor Terrence Howard, but it is the most recent. Last week The Hollywood Reporter told us that sources ‘close to the deal’ were saying that Howard was to be replaced by Don Cheadle in the role of James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes in the upcoming film Iron Man 2. According to the report, negotiations to bring Howard back broke down due to, among other things, financial disagreements between the star and Marvel Studios.

Now, this is all well and good — we are okay blaming this sort of thing on a greedy actor — if it turns out to be true. And according to an interview that Terrence Howard gave to Scott Simon on NPR’s Weekend Edition, the actor has said that he’s just finding all of this out with the rest of us. The folks at CHUD brought it to our attention, providing the transcription below:

Howard: Yeah, I found that out, too.

Simon: Really? They didn’t…they didn’t…

Howard: It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation. [The contract] just…up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren’t worth the paper that they’re printed on, sometimes. Promises aren’t kept, and good faith negotiations aren’t always held up.

Of course, we know what you are thinking and we are right there with you: what in the hell is going on over at Marvel Studios? The more operative question here, in my mind, isn’t about what is really going on inside of Marvel Studios, but what sort of information is getting out of Marvel Studios. Who is it that was talking to THR’s Borys Kit last week, telling him that Howard wanted more money? The fact that Howard is now talking publicly about being completely out of the loop brings Kit’s report into question. That is assuming that what Howard is saying isn’t just spin, of course.

All of that said, I certainly don’t think we are done talking about all of this. It is important to remember that there has been no official word from either Marvel Studios or Paramount Pictures, the companies responsible for the production and distribution of Iron Man 2. As well, we’ve heard no word from the traditionally accessible director Jon Favreau. The director has in the past responded to such rumors on his own official Iron Man MySpace group, but has remained silent since last week’s news — that speaks volumes about the potential invalidity of these rumors. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that this was all either (a) someone jumping the gun on an announcement that wasn’t final or (b) complete bull-shit. We will keep an eye on things, as always.

Do you think that Terrence Howard is honestly not in the loop with what Marvel is doing with Iron Man 2? As well, are you still buying the Don Cheadle rumor, based on what Howard said in the NPR interview?

Our resident cynic Rob Hunter calls major bullshit on the latest rumors coming out of Ridley Scott's Nottingham project, even though the word appears to have come from the director himself.

I call bullshit on this one…

MTV Movies Blog is reporting that Russell Crowe will play both the Sheriff of Nottingham and the outlaw Robin Hood in Ridley Scott’s upcoming film, Nottingham. They got this gem straight from Scott himself during an interview for his current film, Body of Lies.

“He’s playing both!” Scott told MTV, adding that it would take too long to describe the details. All he would offer as explanation was that the roles contain “a good old clever adjustment of characters. One becomes the other. It changes.” Great, Ridley Scott presents The Corsican Brothers! If you’re doing press for a film with the word “lies” in the title, why not throw a few in to the interview itself? Especially in regards to a movie that has already seen its fair share of casting rumors flying fast and furious online.

The basic premise of Nottingham is that it’s a revisionist take on the classic Robin Hood tale of an evil sheriff and a rascally outlaw who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. Nottingham flips that scenario and instead presents a misunderstood and conflicted sheriff and a greedy rapscallion in tights ripping off the rich for his own gain. Crowe has been cast for quite some time as the sheriff, and the role of Robin Hood has been rumored to stars as diverse as Christian Bale and Sam Riley.

So if this report is true, and Crowe will in fact be playing both characters… how will it work? Seems to me there are only two options, and I’m not a fan of either one.

First, they could literally have Crowe playing both men as two distinct people, and simply have some physical characteristic like facial hair, a prosthetic nose, or an eye patch to distinguish the two. They of course would have to be twin brothers. This is lame. The second option would be for Crowe to play one character, the Sheriff of Nottingham, who has grown so frustrated and disillusioned with the corrupt monarchy that he decides to throw on a disguise and start redistributing the wealth. Less lame, but still lame enough. The biggest drawback here is that there would be no real conflict or clash at the end because Crowe can’t really fight himself. (Although Crowe channeling Ed Norton in Fight Club could be entertaining…)

Since both of those ideas suck, and I have more faith in Ridley Scott’s storytelling abilities, I must once again call bullshit on this report. God I hope it’s bullshit…

What do you think about Crowe playing both roles? Do you believe the casting news? What are some other possible scenarios aside from twins or the Sheriff wearing a mask? Is Kevin Costner’s ‘Robin Hood Prince of Thieves’ one of your guilty pleasures too?

Welcome back folks, to the fastest rumor-slinging game in the West. It is time once again to head out to the “Rumor Market” and take a look at today’s most interesting casting rumor. Today, the guys over at Ain’t It Cool got a tip from a reader that George Clooney has been sniffing around the now ramping up production of The Lone Ranger. As you will recall from the other day, Johnny Depp was announced as the man who would play Tonto in the modern adaptation, which is currently under the watchful eye of producer-extraordinaire Jerry Bruckheimer. According to AICN’s source:

Word as of now is that George Clooney has shown a lot of interest in the role of the Lone Ranger, and the studio’s been talking to him about it. Previously it was rumored that Nic Cage was up for the role, but that rumor died a long time ago. Clooney’s name has come up quite a number of times since.

Now, I don’t know about all of you, but this feels like a lot of hearsay at this point — though, it is reasonable to assume that Bruckheimer and Disney are actively trying to pick their Ranger, as the production appears to be getting up to full speed in the near term. As well, I’m not personally opposed to seeing Clooney as The Lone Ranger because, lets face it, the guy is a damn good actor when he wants to be. That, and why wouldn’t he want to be tied to a film that will undoubtedly end up being a major tentpole for the Mouse House in 2010?

Either way, this isn’t about what I think, it’s about what you think… So lets have it.

Are you buying the George Clooney as The Lone Ranger rumor, or is it more malarky?

There is no doubt that Marvel Studios is probably planning out their next four big films, as they've set a very tight timetable for them all. But to see Eva Longoria leaving with Avengers comics in hand is quite a surprise.

We can only imagine at this point that Marvel Studios is working through the planning stages for their Avengers movie that is set to be released in 2011. With the slim timetable that they have set and the progression of films, from Iron Man 2 and Thor targeted for 2010 and Captain America in 2011, and the promise of continuity within the casts of all 4 films, they’ve got their work cut out for them. But, as any fan of the Marvel Universe would tell you, if they can pull it off, they could be looking at four of the most successful comic book adaptations ever.

So needless to say, with all of this planning might come some conversations with actors, directors and screenwriters in the near future — if they are going to make this all happen, they are going to have to get moving in the near future. So it is no surprise that they are taking meetings. What is a potential surprise is that Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria was seen at the Marvel Studios offices yesterday, leaving with a stack of Avengers comics in her hand. As you can see from the photos, Longoria wasn’t shy about what she was holding, perhaps trying to be so brazen in order to stir up buzz. If that was her intention, it appears that she’s winning. Many speculations have arisen as to what character in the Marvel universe would fit Longoria’s limited acting ability, with most people pointing to Janet van Dyne, a.k.a The Wasp. Janet was the eventual wife of Dr. Hank Pym, also known as Ant Man. Pym subjected her to a procedure which granted her the ability to, upon shrinking, grow wings and fire blasts of energy, which she called her “wasp’s stings”. The two would later join up with The Avengers, which was comprised of Thor, Iron Man, Ant-Man and The Hulk.

While this is, of course, all speculation, it is certainly worth mentioning — because you just never know what is going on inside the halls of Marvel Studios. Of course, when we get some official word or anything more solid, we’ll let you know.

For now, what would you think of Longoria as The Wasp, or any other character in the Marvel Universe?

Yes, the web is filled with rumors, and while we sometimes get them right, they are for the most part, all worth nothing more than the paper upon which they are printed. That said, lets talk about a few of these.

Something was disrupting my sleep last night, causing me to toss and turn for hours on end. Possibly, it was the fact that I was still processing the awesome spectacle that was the Iron Man Blu-ray set that I received, but even more likely is that my bull-shit meter was going off like crazy as I thought about some of yesterday’s news stories. Yes, the web is filled with rumors, and while we sometimes get them right, they are for the most part, all worth nothing more than the paper upon which they are printed. That said, lets talk about a few of these:

Devastator “Confirmed” for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

This is a rumor that was reported back in April by IESB, but has since been lost in a sea of other Transformers 2 stories. Yesterday, the folks at TF2005, a Transformers fan forum, said that they have “confirmed” the following details about the upcoming sequel:

- Seven construction vehicles merge to form Devastator
- Devastator has lots of upper body strength, like a gorilla
- Not just green, some of the vehicles are red and yellow
- The previously Long Haul concept art (image above) by Josh Nizzi is legit

We’re not sure what they mean by “confirmed,” but if this is true, then they are talking to the Paramount/Dreamworks reps who are picking up their phone and spilling the beans about Transformers 2 — and the rest of us must have the wrong number. While we can all still try to will this one to be true, I wouldn’t count this one as fact just yet — I am staying in wait-and-see mode, perhaps until June of next year.

The Wachowski Brothers Might be taking on Wonder Woman

Over the last few months, the folks over at MTV’s Movie Blog and Splash Page have evolved into the movie web’s personal bull-shit machine. Their ability to take a comment like “they might have had an idea for it once” from Joel Silver’s producing partner Leonard Goldberg and turn it into a rumor about the Wachowski Brothers directing a Wonder Woman movie amazes me. Ultimately, the only substance in this whole story is the fact that Goldberg and Silver are still actively pursuing a Wonder Woman stand-alone film, even after the departure of Joss Whedon from the project. At this point though, there has been little to no movement.

Are you buying either one of these rumors?

If there is one thing that we in the world of internet movie journalism do well (or not so well, depending on who you ask), it is feed on crazy rumors about all of the most anticipated projects in development. And it appears that Guy Ritchie’s production of Sherlock Holmes, which has Robert Downey Jr. set to star in the title role, is quickly becoming one of those projects. Not too long ago, rumors emerged that Russell Crowe was in talks to play Holmes’ sidekick Dr. Watson, but that was quickly turned around by studio sources.

Since then, more details have emerged from Latino Review, saying that Crowe could be in the movie, but as Professor Moriary instead. That leaves the role of Watson still to be set. Today, “sources” are telling the folks at JoBlo that Colin Farrell is in talks to star alongside Downey’s Holmes as Watson. While no official word has been said, this would be an interesting development. Farrell certainly wouldn’t be the first name I would think of when thinking about casting Watson, but then again, I wasn’t thinking about Downey as Holmes when he was picked. But before we get to that discussion, it is important to gauge this rumors validity. That leads me to my question:

Colin Farrell as Dr. Watson is Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes movie — are you buying it?

Don’t worry, Christian Bale isn’t getting replaced, but the writer and artist of “The Dark Knight Returns” thinks Sylvester Stallone would kill it as an aged Caped Crusader.

Frank Miller spoke with Geoff Boucher of the LA Times about who the prospects of a film adaptation of the most popular Batman comic ever, and apparently Sylvester would be at the top of the list to play the lead. “Just that mouth of his, the scowl and the way it would look in a mask,” Miller said. “I loved Rocky Balboa. This wounded warrior, that’s what Batman is in “The Dark Knight Returns.”

Boucher also spoke to Steve Martin (the owner of Nasty Little Man and publicist for Radiohead, not “SNL” Steve Martin) and he blasted the idea. “Put Stallone in a mask and you get Judge Dredd again, and nobody wants that.”

Stallone has taken his fair share of criticism, being voted by the Razzies as the 20th Century’s worst actor. But he’s not as bad as people would have you believe. Moments in the Rocky saga and films like Copland have shown that Sly can handle emotionally wounded characters. Maybe he would commit to the part of a beaten down Batman. It couldn’t be any worse than Cher playing Catwoman, right?

In a perfect world I would take Clint Eastwood before he started to look like the Crypt Keeper and have him play Bruce Wayne. In all likelihood, we won’t get a big-screen version of “The Dark Knight Returns,” but damn if it isn’t fun to imagine it.

Who would you want to play Batman in “The Dark Knight Returns?” What’s your favorite Sylvester Stallone film?

Hot off the news that former Bel Air Royalty Will Smith might be strapping on his Nemes Headdress to star in The Last Pharaoh, another rumor is (soon to be) spreading through the tubes of the internet like something that moves incredibly quickly.

According to MTV’s Splash Page, Smith may have been offered the blue and red tights for Marvel’s upcoming “Captain America” adaptation. The quote comes from actor Derek Luke during an interview regarding his new movie Miracle at St. Anna:

I heard they offered Will Smith ‘Captain America.’

That’s about as direct as it gets, but as far as whether the quote has any weight, it seems to have just enough to get fans talking. Of course, it seems rational – Smith is a giant star that can carry a brand, he’s appeared in tights before, and he’s got the sort of handsome, square-jawed look that would work really well for playing Captain America.

Reportedly, he can also hurl a magical, discus-shaped shield over three miles. Enough to earn him an Oscar nod.

So at this point it’s only possible that the offer was made, but even so, it would be really cool to see Smith play Steve Rogers. I’m not sure who else out there would make a better or more high-profile choice.

Besides, wouldn’t it be cool to see Hancock clean up his act and go all Silver Age on us?

What do you think? Any interest in seeing Smith play Captain America?

Cher's in the news again, rumored to be considered for the juicily sexy role of Catwoman opposite Christian Bale in the next Batman.

Cher’s in the news again (take that, Madonna! POW!) rumored to be considered for the juicily sexy role of Catwoman opposite Christian Bale in the next Batman. Is it true? Maybe yes, maybe no. Will we see Cher’s buns of steel undulating at The Caped Crusader? Will it be Cher wielding a black whip? Will they be Cher’s eyes squinting menacingly through the mask at Batman?

Telegraph U.K. writes, “Cher has been lined up to star in the next Batman movie…”

But in its never-ending quest for accuracy, FSR checked with Cher’s manager who said this morning that while “Chris Nolan may have said he’d like to get [Cher] for the role, no offer is out yet.”

Telegraph also quoted an unnamed studio executive as saying:

“Cher is Nolan’s first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years. The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of [former Cat Women] Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry’s purring creations.”

“I would LOVE nothing more than for Cher to play Catwoman,” said her manager Risa Shapiro in this morning’s phone interview. “She’d be great. She’s one of the most extraordinary women anyone could ever meet. But I haven’t received any phone call about this, and hadn’t even heard about it .” (Until FSR brought it to her attention.) I think I’ll call Chris Nolan and find out what’s going on.” We suspect there may be a little roiling of the Bat stew when Nolan and Shapiro talk.

If there’s one thing FSR is good at, it’s stirring up the pot, all in the name of movies.

Should shape-shifting Cher win this role, we can claim having had a small part in the casting chain. Otherwise, we have succeeded in furthering another ridiculous casting rumor.
