A Sex Slave Related Giveaway! Enter to See ‘Sleeping Beauty’ For Free on SundanceNOW
Features By Scott Beggs on November 9, 2011 | Comments (37)Remember the time in college when you were strapped for cash and ended up working as a subconscious prostitute where anyone with a few bucks could have their way with you in your sleep? Yeah, we had that wiped from our memory too. Thankfully, Julia Leigh‘s new film Sleeping Beauty won’t let us forget. Here’s the trailer if you want to refresh yourself and get some context for the big spooning image of Emily Browning and your grandpa to the right. It hit Cannes with a mixed vengeance, and it should be in theaters (limited style), but it’s also available right this second on SundanceNOW. That is, if you like paying for things. Since we don’t, we’re giving away a free online ticket to see the movie through that wonderful website. How do you enter? How do you win? Glad you asked.
Who Doesn’t Love a Naked Santa? Win ‘Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale’ On Bluray/DVD Combo Pack
Features By Rob Hunter on October 22, 2011 | Comments (25)Ah, Christmas. The magical time of year when decorations are hung, families gather to celebrate, gifts are exchanged, and children cower in fear that Santa Claus will kidnap and eat them. Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale is a fantastic family adventure film from Finland that has all the hallmarks of a holiday classic. A young boy finds the adventure of a lifetime when the miners in his village discover a legendary figure buried in the ice. But not everyone is thrilled at the discovery, and soon some very peculiar and frightening beings are swarming down the mountain in search of their captured leader. Now father and son must join forces along with the other villagers to stop the onslaught. Merry Christmas! As evident in Cole Abaius’ review we here at FSR really enjoyed this fresh, fun, genitalia-filled family holiday film, and now you can too. Oscilloscope Labs is releasing a beautifully-produced Bluray/DVD combo pack on Tuesday the 25th, and you should probably go out and buy a copy… or you can enter to win one of two free copies! Here’s how to win… and pay attention as it’s a two-parter. First, tell us in the comments section below what your favorite Christmas film is. Easy right? Now tell us how and where in that specific film you think it could use more penis.
Bloody Kills, Frequent Laughs and a Hot Panettiere! Win ‘Scream 4′ on DVD
Free Stuff By Rob Hunter on September 30, 2011 | Comments (38)The general rule of sequels is that they become less exciting and original as they continue. Each successive film copies from its predecessor and often ends up a pale copy. Wes Craven’s Scream series is no exception as parts two and three were both far lesser films than the original. Still, they each had bits that worked. Needless to say, when plans for a fourth film were announced a decade after Scream 3 very few people were excited at the prospect. And then Scream 4 ended up being the best Scream since the original. My full review is here, but the bottom line is that the movie is “funny, fresh, and wonderfully bloody, and it finds that delicate balance between horror and comedy that the last entry missed entirely.” Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson (who also wrote the original) have pulled off something special here with the help of a fantastically entertaining cast. (Second best ensemble of the year behind Horrible Bosses!) The lead trio returns, but they’re joined by several recognizable faces who help add personality, comedic timing, and sex appeal (thank you Hayden Panettiere). It’s a lot of fun, and fans of the series who passed on it in theaters should definitely give it a watch on DVD or Blu-ray. Speaking of DVD… Scream 4 hits shelves on Tuesday, October 4th, and we’re giving one away to a lucky winner! Keep reading for your chance to win.
Awesome Ass-Kickery! Win a Bundle of Blu-rays from Well Go USA and ‘Shaolin’
Features By Rob Hunter on September 8, 2011 | Comments (47)Shaolin is a new film from director Benny Chan that stars Andy Lau as a vicious warlord whose wicked ways come to an end when he’s double-crossed and he loses his family. He finds redemption with the monks of the Shaolin Temple, but when past deeds and associates return he’s forced to defend his new home and the innocents around him. The good news is I’ve just finished watching the movie, and it’s pretty damn fantastic. The even better news is that Shaolin‘s distributor, Well Go USA, is offering up one hell of an awesome prize pack consisting of SIX Blu-rays and TWO posters for one lucky reader. And this isn’t simply a matter of quantity trumping quality… four of the titles (Ip Man, Ip Man 2, Legend Of the Fist, and The Man From Nowhere) are absolutely stellar action films, and the remaining two (Little Big Soldier and Brothers Five) are fun little flicks. Keep reading to find out how you can be the lucky winner…
A Moral Quandary Related Contest! Win ‘In a Better World’ on Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack
Features By Rob Hunter on August 29, 2011 | Comments (19)Revenge films are a genre unto themselves and usually fit a very specific mold. They’re usually meant to be both entertaining and cathartic, but there’s rarely any serious questions asked as to the moral state of the actions playing out before us. Director Susanne Bier’s Academy Award winning film, In a Better World, sets out to do just that. The film follows two stories… two boys deal with a schoolyard bully but their efforts get out of hand, and a doctor who’s life mission is to heal the sick and wounded finds his ideals questioned when faced with pure evil. It’s a suspenseful and engaging experience, and it offers no easy answers. In a Better World hits DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow, and we have a copy of the combo pack to give away to one lucky reader. How can you win? Simple… think of a really bad movie, and tell us why the world would be better off if the damn thing had never been made.
A Muscle Shirt Related Contest! Win ‘Conan the Barbarian’ T-shirts, Posters, and Film Score
Features By Rob Hunter on August 20, 2011 | Comments (33)There are few things in this world greater than the feeling one gets from taking vengeance upon the people who murdered your father. Holding a fluffy puppy fresh out of the dryer is probably one. Receiving oral pleasures on the beach definitely. And winning free movie-related paraphernalia is another. Conan the Barbarian sliced its way into theaters today, and to celebrate we’re giving away two swag-filled prize packs! Each pack contains two t-shirts (pictured to the right), one copy of the film’s score, one character poster, and one final theatrical poster. How can you win? Simple… what’s your favorite hack n slash fantasy themed film? It’s a broad category and covers pretty much any period film with swords and magic from Highlander to The Return of the King. (Please note, The Cable Guy does not count just because it features a scene set at Medieval Times.) Tell us in the comment section below what your favorite is and why. Remember, this is “favorite” not best. Because there’s only one answer for the best, and that answer is Hawk the Slayer.
A GPS Related Giveaway! Hunt Down and Win an Alienware Laptop From ‘Clash’
Features By Scott Beggs on July 28, 2011 | Comments (5)In Clash, a mercenary (Ngô Thanh Vân) gets a new job hunting down a very valuable, very missing hard drive that has a few important codes for the first Vietnamese satellite. She teams up with a few other experts, but as you might imagine, not everyone is trustworthy and feces starts flying at the fan as quickly as feet start hitting faces. It’s unclear what will happen if the hard drive winds up in the hands of the Chinese Triad, but we want to put a new Alienware laptop into yours. All it takes is a little spy skill and a little bit of luck. Plus, we’re teaming up with Indomina Releasing for this bad boy, and they’ve got a few other prizes just in case you aren’t the big, big winner. So how do you enter? Check this out:
An Mmm-Mmm-Teresa-Palmer Contest! Win ‘Take Me Home Tonight’ On DVD
Features By Rob Hunter on July 19, 2011 | Comments (18)Who doesn’t love cinema from the 80s? Aside from Cole Abaius I mean. The decade is a movie genre unto itself and filled with films that could have only been made in that very specific time. More than just about any other decade films from the 80s are instantly recognizable by their attitudes, wardrobes, and degree of female nudity. Luckily for those of us you who weren’t alive in the 80s Hollywood occasionally returns to the scene of the crime and makes a film that hopes to recapture that poppy magic. The most recent example is the ensemble comedy Take Me Home Tonight starring Topher Grace, Dan Fogler, Anna Faris (in a rare non-ditzy role), and the lovely Teresa Palmer. (Demetri Martin also steals every scene he’s in.) Take Me Home Tonight hit shelves today, and we’ve got three brand new DVDs to give away! How can you win? Simple… there were thousands of movies produced during the 1980s, but not all of them are perfect representatives of their time-frame. Tell us in the comment section below which 80s film is the most iconic of the decade and why. As always the contest is open to US residents only ages 18 and up. Be sure to leave an email address associated with your comment is correct as that’s how we’ll notify the winner. Contest ends July 25th! Good luck! The official synopsis and trailer are below.

Features By Scott Beggs on July 18, 2011 | Be the First To CommentComic-Con is around the corner, and while our dance card is filling up, we’ve carved out some time to hang out with veteran film critic, author, and film historian Leonard Maltin. Unlike two years ago when we ended up hanging out by the San Diego docks with Tom Jane and the Raw crew at 3am, we’ll be keeping it a little tamer this year at the Movies On Demand lounge inside the Hard Rock Hotel on Saturday, July 23rd from 3-5pm. So what does our drinking in the afternoon have to do with you winning $500? Great question. A Hairy Contest! Win A ‘Beastly’ DVD/Book Prize Pack
Features By Rob Hunter on July 6, 2011 | Comments (13)Okay, so the “Beast” in the recently released Beastly isn’t actually a hairy creature which probably renders the title of this post moot. Or does it? Exactly. Now that you’re thoroughly confused and your blood is flowing back to your brain let’s get to the point. Beastly tells the tale of a douchey teenager who’s cursed by a spurned witch and transformed into an unattractively scarred and tattooed freak. The curse can be lifted within a year’s time but only if he can find that blind girl from Mask and make her love him. If she’s not available a former Disney star will do too. Can he break the curse or is he doomed to spend the rest of his life looking like the tool he was? Beastly hit shelves last week, and we’ve got a prize pack to giveaway that includes a brand new DVD of the movie as well as the novel by Alex Flinn that it’s based upon. How can you win? Simple… the tale of Beauty and the Beast has been told and adapted countless times in films and on television, so tell us in the comments below which version is your favorite and why.
Norwegians! Will! Rise! Win ‘Max Manus: Man Of War’ On Blu-ray
Features By Rob Hunter on June 28, 2011 | Comments (17)What comes to mind when you think of Norway? I mean aside from snowbound zombies, giant trolls, and fjords of course. Are the fjords even in Norway? Am I thinking of Finland? I digress. What’s never come to my mind when thinking of Norway is the idea that the country saw its fair share of resistance fighters during World War II dedicated to stopping the German onslaught. Who knew? Having recently watched the newly released Max Manus: Man Of War I can proudly say that now I know. And I want to share that knowledge with you. Three of you actually… Max Manus: Man Of War hit shelves today, and we’ve got three Blu-rays to give away! The movie is a fact-based look at one of Norway’s greatest war heroes, Max Manus. His energy and patriotic verve were immense, and his skill/luck at escaping Nazi capture made him a wanted man and a legend. The movie is fantastic and blends strong character work with intense gun battles and scenes of sabotage. I’m recommending it as a BUY in this week’s DVD column, but if you have a Blu-ray player there’s a chance you can get a copy for free. How can you win? Simple… just as Max’s exploits earned him his own subtitle (Man of War), so should yours. So tell us in the comments below what name you would go by if you were in fact a legendary resistance fighter.
Win a VIP Spot at ‘Horrible Bosses’ in Columbus
Features By Kevin Carr on June 23, 2011 | Comments (8)Have you ever had a horrible boss? Got a good story about that? If you tell us your horrible boss story, and we like it, you can win a pass to an early VIP screening of New Line Cinema’s new flick Horrible Bosses in Columbus, Ohio, hosted by FSR’s resident Fat Guy Kevin Carr. (Please note… former employees of Donald Trump are excluded from this contest because that’d be just too easy. You too, Rob Hunter.) Here’s how you can get in to see Horrible Bosses before it opens and enjoy a VIP reception before the film. Search your brain for your best (and hopefully true) story about a horrible boss you’ve had in the past. Recount your story in the comments section of this post. Please remember to change the names of people and businesses to protect the guilty. Or not. Either way.
Enter to Win an Uncomfortably Large ‘Green Lantern’ Prize Pack
Features By Scott Beggs on June 16, 2011 | Comments (3)Due to an inventory error, we’re now overstocked with Green Lantern merchandise and twenty-three thousand wacky, inflatable, arm-flailing, tubemen. But our loss is your gain, because we’re hosting a contest to give away a ridiculous amount of very cool Lantern stuff. This may take a bit more effort than our other contests, but the prize is worth it (especially if you’re a fan or the friend of a fan who wants to make them insanely jealous). So how do you enter? Glad you asked!
A Meth Related Giveaway! Win ‘Breaking Bad’ Season 3 on DVD
Free Stuff By Neil Miller on June 8, 2011 | Comments (23)Those who follow me on Twitter, Miso, Friendster and Friendface might be aware of the fact that I am unabashedly in love with Vince Gilligan’s gripping, deeply fascinating series Breaking Bad. The show, which earned two Emmy Awards in 2010 for the performances of Bryan Cranston (Lead Actor in a Drama Series) and Aaron Paul (Supporting Actor in a Drama Series), is a tour-de-force of drama, tension and sometimes humor. It’s also about selling meth. But that’s only a small piece of the pie. Many a critic has called Breaking Bad “the best show on television.” I would say such things, as well. In celebration of the upcoming season four premiere in July and the release of season three on DVD and Blu-ray yesterday, we’d like to give one (1) DVD copy away to a very luck reader. Find out how you can win just after the jump.
A Sugary Horror Related Contest! Win the Tasty ‘Jawbreaker’ On Blu-ray
Features By Robert Fure on May 23, 2011 | Comments (18)I’m not sure anyone would say they’re a fan of 90s horror. I’m not even sure what that would mean. They were a fan of bad horror? Or Scream or maybe I Know What You Did Last Summer? Either way, if you’re feeling nostalgic for movies made in the 90s or maybe just for a time period when Rebecca Gayheart was relevant, then we have the contest for you. Starring the previously mentioned Gayheart alongside Rose McGowan before she melted down, then melted her face and had it poorly repaired, and Dexter’s Julie Benz, Jawbreaker was a fun film about High School bitches and murder. Let me whet your whistle with this PR company provided summary:
A Buchinsky Related Contest! Win ‘The Mechanic’ On DVD
Features By Rob Hunter on May 18, 2011 | Comments (26)Remakes are often thought of as automatically inferior to the original, but if you’re willing to give them a chance they’re often as good if not better than their cinematic predecessors. Well, maybe “often” is a bit of an exaggeration… but it does happen. Take Simon West’s remake of the Charles Bronson classic, The Mechanic. I say “classic” but while Michael Winner’s 1972 film is solidly entertaining and features a killer ending it isn’t truly great cinema. It’s the actors (Bronson and Jan-Michael Vincent) and the multiple twists and turns that make it fun, and West knows it. His remake sticks close to the formula and brings in the always fantastic (and angry) Ben Foster for support as well as some solid gunplay and action scenes, and the result is an exciting and fast-moving action thriller that would have made Charles Buchinsky proud. The Mechanic hit shelves this week, and we’ve got a free DVD for one lucky winner. How can you win? Simple… tell us in the comment section below which Bronson movie you’d like to see remade next and who you think should take on his role. It can be a film from anywhere in his career, in a role big or small, and special consideration will be given if you happen to pick my own personal favorite Bronson flick…
