First of all, if this is true he should be beaten. Second of all, what movies have some of the rest of you never seen that you’d be embarrassed to tell your movie-loving friends? – David D.

There are so many actors who had great potential that made too many wrong choices or just fell into a rut. With a time machine, who would you save and advise to take that role they passed on? Like, C. Thomas Howell–so great in The Outsiders & That Night, but maaaaybe Soul Man wasn’t the best choice. – Sara F.

My answer:  Topher Grace as Spider-man.  Tobey Maguire is humorless.  And I’d somehow keep Ryan Reynolds from being the Green Lantern so he can be The Flash instead. And I’d like to have seen Preston Sturges direct just about any romantic comedy. – Sara F.

This is broad, and falls under a large ‘missed-opportunities’ umbrella, but I’m studying Citizen Kane in my film class, and my professor pondered aloud at one point, “Why doesn’t Thompson visit Kane’s first wife? Well,” he continued, answering himself, “it would tell us nothing different from Leland’s flashback.” It’s a big class, and I lacked the courage to speak up, “Um, respected doctor of film? His first wife died in a car accident with his son.” This made me wonder. That little fact is barely noticeable; it’s slipped in in the “News on the March” section and never spoken of again. There’s no question that it’s a fantastic, funny comedy, but there was always one scene that never worked for me. It kills an otherwise great moment. I’m talking, of course, about the scene where a ghost unzips Ray’s pants, and he giggles like a schoolgirl. Is it a dream? Does a ghost really fellate Ray? It’s unclear. But it’s clearly awful. It can’t be all bad, though, because it led me to this question: what’s a scene you hate from a movie you love?

If you have a question you’d like answered by the FSR readers and staff, send us an email at [email protected] Our inaugural question comes from Managing Editor, Cole Abaius. I recently took the plunge by getting my second tattoo. In an effort to display my love of films while avoiding the cliched “Howard the Duck With Your Nipple As His Eyeball” that’s so popular with the kids these days, I chose to get a crystal clear rendering of the spaceship-crashed moon from A Trip to the Moon (the first science fiction film). It’s something that will be with me forever. Keeping that eternal aspect in mind, what cinematically-themed tattoo would you get?
