The upcoming Robert De Niro/Al Pacino thriller, Righteous Kill, has a new redband trailer.  Watch it below and then see if you agree with some assumptions about the movie.

So what can we assume about Righteous Kill from this new trailer?

**Warning — This May Contain Spoilers. That is, if we are right… We have not yet seen the film. At this point we are just guessing.**

1) De Niro may succeed in beating his own long standing record (Casino) for ”fuck” utterances and derivations.  2) Carla Gugino gets naked. Again.  3) Director Jon Avnet and Pacino may have redeemed themselves for the travesty that was 88 Minutes.  4) Brian Dennehy is still alive.  5) Pacino is the vigilante killer and De Niro will have to shoot him in the end. This would of course make them even for Heat.

Does the new trailer make you more or less inclined to see Righteous Kill?

No, no, sorry. We’re not being serious. But while at the press junket with Ben Stiller he had mentioned that he had the idea for Tropic Thunder for a long time, dating back to the days of his time on The Ben Stiller Show. As soon as he mentioned it, I flashed back to one of my favorite parody clips of all time. I’d rather watch this for 90 minutes than ever sit through a poorly thought out spoof movie.

In a way, this could be considered a forerunner to what happened with this idea got full fleshed out into Tropic Thunder. Without further ado, we present to you Die Hard 12: Die Hungry from The Ben Stiller Show.

Is it a little odd that I am ready to forgo the theatrical release of Paramount’s Tropic Thunder in hopes that I could just skip right to the DVD release? You may be asking yourselves why I would say such a thing, as Tropic Thunder appears to be, as many commenters have said on this very site, the comedy to beat this summer. The answer is simple: the bonus features on the DVD look like they are going to be ridiculous.

Take for instance some of the parody work that Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. did for the MTV Movie Awards. Remember the one they did where Iron Man kicks the Kung Fu Panda in the nuts — classic. And hot on the heels of all that jazz comes the following video, a trailer for a documentary that chronicles the making of a fake movie inside of a movie. Yes, the documentary is called Rain of Madness, and it tells the story behind the botched production at the center of Tropic Thunder. Confused? Watch the trailer below, it will explain itself.

Tropic Thunder is directed by Ben Stiller. It stars Stiller alongside Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., the incoparable Steve Coogan, Danny McBride and Nick Nolte. It hits theaters on August 15th. I am beginning to think that Ben Stiller’s upcoming flick Tropic Thunder is more of a character study on the egotistical nature of Hollywood — wrapped in a big flour tortilla of hilarity. Yes, this big chunky Chipolte burrito of action and comedy is coming, and why shouldn’t we be excited?

I can’t think of a reason, lets go to the brand new international trailer, which was released via the film’s UK site late last evening.

Lets discuss this film for a moment — I would like to break it down for you. What we have are, as I mentioned before, ingredients for success similar to a thick, beefy burrito. We have the meat — director and star Ben Stiller and his cohorts, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Steve Coogan, Jay Baruchel and Danny McBride. We also have the veggies and the beans, action and comedy. Add a little hot sauce, the irreverant nature of the film, which takes shots at big Hollywood personalities. And to top it all off we have the cheese: Nick Nolte as a crazy, war-torn veteran. Yes, this is a recipe for success — one that is sure to leave us satisfied, and also ready for a nap. But don’t worry, the nap comes afterward.

Tropic Thunder hits theaters on August 15, 2008.

There are few directors in the world today who are as unique as Guy Ritchie. His films, everything from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells to Snatch, have all had a quality that is all their own, or at least a quality that is limited to his body of work. Well, his early body of work at least. For fans of Ritchie’s extasy-infused, high-octain beginnings have seen his talent spend on working the baby factory with his wife Madonna, as well as a throw-away film called Swept Away in 2002. To say the least, he has yet to really recover from the damage of the Madonna-headlined film.

That is, until now. In his upcoming film RocknRolla, Ritchie takes badass incarnate Gerard Butler and throws him into a whirlwind story about the intersection of London’s seedy underbelly and a Russian mobster’s shady land deal, all somehow interconnected with a gun-toting rock star. The film also stars Thandie Newton, Tom Wilkinson, Gemma Arterton and the always entertaining Jeremy Piven. As well, I am sure, as some other familiar faces.

Something tells me the Joker’s line “I love this job” will be a big catch phrase this summer. I imagine office workers bound to their desks, trapped in their cubicles saying it with the Joker’s sneering inflection as they toil through stacks of paper and fight the boredom of the desk job.

The new The Dark Knight commercial can be seen below and I think it confirms what everyone already knows:

The late Heath Ledger owns The Dark Knight. Totally unrecognizable, not merely because of makeup, but through body language and a voice that is nothing like Ledger’s, the actor’s performance is going to get a lot of attention. It’s inevitable some of it will be the result of the actor’s death and the Joker being his last completed role.

The focus on Ledger should be the result of this role showcasing the work of a great actor who immersed himself in the part. Even in this 30 second spot it’s easy to see how totally Ledger inhabits the Joker.

It’s obvious from the new commercial that The Dark Knight has its share of spectacular special effects, but the most spectacular special effect of all is Heath Ledger’s Joker.

One of the emerging trends in movie marketing is to release clips that show more and more of the film, trailers that reveal more of the plot and promos that are supposed to give us more of a reason to see the other 2/3 of the movie. The only problem, in the minds of purists, is that giving away this much of a movie spoils the whole thing. But for the rest of us, this sort of thing is just a little taste.

That said, 7 full minutes of the upcoming Universal action flick Wanted have been released online through Russian site Film1.nl. The fine folks at Trailer Addict were kind enough to make an embeddable version, which we are happy to share with you below:

As I have been reporting on this film here on FSR, I have noticed that there seem to be two reactions that it is getting from readers. One is that it looks too fake, too CG-enhanced and a little too unbelievable. The other is that it looks badass. With cautious optimism, I am leaning toward badass. Then again, I am not only basing my decisions about the film on the clips, I have also read the graphic novel by Mark Millar upon which the film is based. And from that experience, I can tell you that the world of Wanted is all about the heightened sense of experience, as it is a world of super-assassins and super-villains, the likes of which you would see squaring off against your favorite super heroes. In that regard, the film may take on a feeling akin to The Matrix films — and we mustn’t forget that these characters exist in a similar world.

With that in mind, saying that it looks too fake or too CG-enhanced is like going to see a Superman movie and coming out saying “that is so unrealistic… No one can really fly.”

I would urge everyone to go out and pickup the Wanted graphic novel, as it is one of the best that I have ever read — and despite the fact that this could be comic blasphemy, I will say that I enjoyed it even more than Watchmen. And that is certainly saying something.

As for the film adaptation, it hits theaters on June 27th. It stars Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Common. It is directed by Timur Bekmambetov. For more bullet-flying badassery, I would recommend checking out the Wanted red band trailer that we posted last week.

By my estimation, every red-blooded American male has at least a little bit of interest in Jason Statham driving fast cars and leaving a ridiculous body count in his wake — it is safe to say that once we lose interest in baseball, he will become the new national pastime. Not bad for a Brit.

His next movie is Death Race, which will be released on August 22, 2008. To help us understand what is going on in this glorious mess of muscle cars and mayhem, the folks at Universal have released the first theatrical trailer, which you can watch below.

The only downside that I can see to this whole thing is the involvement of notoriously so-so director Paul W.S. Anderson, who has previously brought us films like Mortal Combat and AVP: Alien vs. Predator. But even Anderson’s involvement can’t soil the fact that Jason Statham is infinitely badass in anything, the fact that Ian McShane is worth the price of admission alone and that the trailer screams blood, bullets and tight leather female inmates — not even the fact that Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner are on the producers list can soil that.

Death Race has the makings of The Transporter meets Crank, combined with the best parts of Neil Marshall’s Doomsday. I don’t know about you, but that has me interested. When it comes to a movie like Wanted, I say let the bullets fly and let the scantily clad, hooker-looking Angelina Jolie waltz around in the nude. As well, I am all for the physics-defying stunts and tricks that are sure to be all over this film. Having read the graphic novel, I can say that if director Timur Bekmambetov is as faithful to Mark Millar’s book as he said he is going to be, we are in for one wild ride.

As further proof of the above statement, I would like to present the brand new red band trailer, which was released via iTunes (where it can also be viewed in glorious HD) today…

Wanted stars James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and Terence Stamp. It hits theaters on June 27th.

Pacino. De Niro. High tension, killer cop story. To say the least, it is a movie geek’s wet dream. Alright, so it might not be another Star Wars movie or the second coming of a familiar fedora-wearing archaeologist, but Righteous Kill is certainly for those who geek out over bad boys with guns, and not the type that show up in Michael Bay movies. I am talking about the raw, edgy types of performances that made movies like Heat and Goodfellas classics of American cinema.

Time will tell whether or not this new drama will live up to the Robert De Niro and Al Pacino films of the past, but considering this most recent trailer (which can be seen below) I think we are in for something special. Then again, I have been wrong before about this sort of thing. Please Bobby and Al, don’t allow me to be wrong this time. Take a look at the trailer for yourself:

Righteous Kill is directed by Jon Avnet, whose credits include Fried Green Tomatoes and the recent blunder that was 88 Minutes. Not to worry though, as I can assure you that based on this trailer alone, RIghteous Kill is more engaging than 88 Minutes. The film will also star John Leguizamo, Carla Gugino, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Donnie Wahlberg. It hits theaters on September 12th, 2008.

If you had a chance to catch the Wanted featurette that we posted a few days back, then you are already aware that this movie is going to be wicked (and by wicked, I mean a “no-holds barred thrill ride the likes of which we have not seen since The Matrix“). And that was all just based on the footage that we’ve seen in english. As you will see below, this film brings the heat when translated to Russian. The following trailer is the first international trailer that we’ve seen and it definitely shows off more action, more of the film’s grit and of course, more stylish, kick-ass action. Have a look for your self:

Upon viewing this trailer, I have a few thoughts. First, ho-ly shit! I don’t normally slip into to giggly, drooly fanboy mode easily, but this film is absolutely rocking my world at the moment. I feel like that fat kid who really loves cake (as previously mentioned by rapper 50 Cent) — only, I’ve just discovered a brand new, fancy brand of cake — the kind that exists only in the wildly tripped-out mind of comic master Mark Millar. And somehow, director Timur Bekmambetov has brought that world to life on-screen. It appears, at this point, to be a beautiful union the likes of which we have not seen since they combined knives and bread.

The only problems that I see with this new trailer is that I don’t speak Russian, so I’ve gained no knowledge of what the sexy female voice is explaining. As well, I was bothered by the way Morgan Freeman’s Russian voice-over guy sounded. Nothing like voicing over Morgan Freeman with a white dude. As Gob Bluthe would say, “Come on!”

Aside from Freeman, Wanted stars Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, Terrence Stamp, Common and Thomas Kretschmann. It hits theaters with it’s fancy guns locked and loaded on June 27th.

Honestly, I don’t feel as if we have been giving Guillermo Del Toro the right kind of love lately. Sure, we have been droning on and on about The Hobbit, including why we think Gollum should go fly a kite (alright, that is just me). But I think we are losing focus on Del Toro’s next visual masterpiece, Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Locked, cocked and ready to rock, this movie hits theaters on July 11th, this is one of those films that is sure to get your inner fanboy all up in a frenzy. As in, if the first Hellboy didn’t melt your gym shorts, this one will surely do the trick. If the first one did happen to make your tighty whities spontaneously combust, you may want to bring a few extra pairs to the theater this time around.
