Following the role of a hitman in Bangkok Dangerous, Nicolas Cage wants to earn more badass brownie points as an ex-cop in Kick-Ass.

THR reports that Cage has signed on to the Matthew Vaughn adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic book, focused on a high school nerd, Dave Lizewski, who wants to be a superhero in spite of the fact that he has no superhero powers or athletic ability whatsoever. Please God, let it be better than Blankman.

Cage will play “a former cop who wants to bring down a druglord and has trained his daughter (Chloe Moretz) to be a lethal weapon.”

Vaughn and Marv Films partner Kris Thykier had to finance the film independently after many studios were turned off by the violent nature of the script. That makes me want to see it even more.

There’s no question that Cage has phoned in some performances in his lengthy career, but the man can be a great character actor when he wants to be. I just hope he doesn’t grow his hair out like he did in Con-Air and Bangkok Dangerous. (On a sidenote, why are so many films choosing titles that sound like porn flicks? Bangkok Dangerous? Hancock?)

What comic book hero would you like to see hit the big screen? What’s your favorite Nicolas Cage film?
