Sweet Shaft To The Critics… Box Office Estimate Edition
Posted by Joshua Martin (joshua@filmschoolrejects.com) on April 15, 2007
Wow. Box Office Mojo has sent us over the top 5 studio estimates for the weekend. There are a few people eating a big humble pie. For instance our own editor, Neil Miller, and a writer from Bullz-eye were having a discussion outside of a screening for Disturbia about the upcoming Box Office numbers. Both throwing out bold predictions about the future of Grindhouse, both putting it in the top 5. Was that the case? No. Disturbia slaughtered. Almost doubling everyone on the chart. I’ll give that it’s a first week estimate, but come on, Blades of Glory is the only one that it isn’t doubled by. Meet the Robinsons, Perfect Stranger and, Are We Done Yet? Top the chart.

2. Blades of Glory (Paramount (DreamWorks))

3. Meet the Robinsons (Buena Vista)

Disturbia is showing on one of the lower number of screens too. Outstanding, and the reviews on our site reflect that. You’ll see that it really caught a whole bunch of people off guard about how it was better movie than people truly considered it to be. Proof positive, that hype doesn’t make a movie and it sure doesn’t translate into ticket sales.
