Bio: Neil Miller is the Founder and Executive Editor of Film School Rejects. Born in the slums of Cleveland, Ohio in 1983, he has long been a casual wanderer through the world of film appreciation. He has also long been very unfunny. He has combined those two traits to form the unflinching leadership of FSR, a film website that takes film very, very seriously. Or something like that. He also loves Micheal Bay movies, is a pansy when it comes to Horror flicks and has dated several B-list reality TV stars.

SXSW Review: Kick-Ass

SXSW Review: Kick-Ass

There’s something significant about my notes situation as the credits rolled Matthew Vaughn’s high-energy comic adaptation. There was only one note to be written, and it came only at the end. My Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles notepad was blank, except for three words: “That was fun.”

SXSW Review: Barry Munday

SXSW Review: Barry Munday

With an energetic opening that signals an upbeat and well-soundtracked tone, Barry Munday introduces us to its title character, played by Patrick Wilson. He’s a guy you’ve met before, around the office (if you’ve ever worked in one). The guy who hits on every woman in site, spends most of his lunchtimes alone and is constantly making imbecilic, inappropriate remarks. You may know him as a tool.

Today @ SXSW: You Must See Micmacs, And Other Things

Today, we’re looking forward to a lot of the narrative competition films and a few cool spotlight premieres. It’s the fattest day of screening here at SXSW, so gird your loins — it’s about to get messy.

Today @ SXSW: Kick-Ass, Grass or Evil!

Seeing as so many of our SXSW-attending readers found my little daily updates so useful last year, I’ve decided to bring them back for this year. So here it is, Today @ SXSW, my daily guide to what you should be seeing at the little festival affectionately known as South-by.

Clint Eastwood to Undress J. Edgar Hoover

After seeing Invictus get rightfully shut out on Oscar night — lets fact it, folks, the movie was bad — director Clint Eastwood is moving on to what is sure to be his next Oscar-grab biopic. This time, he’s bringing his lens back into the confines of the United States, putting focus on the controversial FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.

Twilight: Eclipse Trailer: The Fight is Still Coming, Seriously

Twilight: Eclipse Trailer: The Fight is Still Coming, Seriously

Today, we see the first trailer for Twilight: Eclipse, and it’s mostly just fan service. All of those broody teen superhumans (and unhumans) talking about how much they will fight, if the fight happens. It’s all very romantic, I suppose.

Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning and Their Naughty ‘Runaways’ Music Video

A new music video for the upcoming film The Runaways has been released today, continuing the promotion of this aggressively sexy movie about children (teenagers) singing aggressively sexual songs to throngs of adults. It’s a true story, so it’s okay.

New Robin Hood Trailer: Back Then, Everyone Was a Badass

New Robin Hood Trailer: Back Then, Everyone Was a Badass

If Ridley Scott is doing one thing with his upcoming period action film Robin Hood, it is historical accuracy. Because in those days — I say “those days” because I don’t have time to Wikipedia the particular time period that Robin Hood may have lived like other movie bloggers — everyone was, in fact, a total badass.

SXSW Preview: Lebanon, Pa.

SXSW Preview: Lebanon, Pa.

A charming big city advertising man is brought back home by the death of his father, forcing him to reconnect with the family and town he left behind long ago. Sure, this premise sounds used and familiar, but it’s the execution that will matter. And if there’s anything I’ve gathered from the trailer for Lebanon, Pa., from director Ben Hickernell, is that there’s something interesting about this rendition of the “coming home” story.

Christopher Nolan’s Poker Face: Guarding the Secrets of Superman and Batman

Christopher Nolan is talking. He’s talking about Superman, Batman and everything in between. But even though the words are coming out, he’s still not really saying anything substantial — not giving fans anything more than confirmation that their salivation over his continued involvement with either property was not for nothing.

Here’s Ten Seconds of Twilight: Eclipse; Please Contain Yourselves

Here’s Ten Seconds of Twilight: Eclipse; Please Contain Yourselves

At this point, I feel like I’m making fun of this entire process. Perhaps I’m just trying to point out the absurdity of this marketing ploy — the releasing of a ten-second teaser that is teasing a teaser trailer which will go online tomorrow. It’s a little much, for any movie. The fact that it’s Twilight: Eclipse only makes it easier for the comment section below to get a little rowdy.

Movies We Love: Sidekicks (The Chuck Norris Birthday Edition)

Today is the 70th anniversary of a great day in our history, as you should very well know by now. If you don’t, I believe one of Chuck Norris’ beard hairs is going to impregnate your mother as penance for forgetting his birthday. On this day in 1940, Chuck Norris was born in Ryan, Oklahoma. And in honor of this great man’s date of birth, I’m using Movies We Love to celebrate one of my favorite tour de Chucks — Sidekicks.

SX Fantastic Preview: Monsters

SX Fantastic Preview: Monsters

Just over a year ago, we talked to producer/actor Scoot McNairy about an interesting science fiction film shot without a script. A mumblecore action movie, if you will. Today, we get to preview that exact movie as part of our look ahead to this year’s SX Fantastic line-up.

SXSW Preview: Trash Humpers

I’ve always known that there’s something wrong with filmmaker Harmony Korine. If you’ve seen either Mister Lonely or Gummo, you have an idea of what I’m talking about. The talent is certainly there — and so is the weird. Both seem to be coming out in the film he’s brought to SXSW 2010, Trash Humpers.

Lost: The Final Season – ‘Dr. Linus’ Video Blog and Review

This week, we learn that the first rule of Lost club is that you don’t talk about Lost club. Or something along those lines. In reality, we learn that the first rule of Lost club is that the show must go on. Because Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, the masterminds behind television’s most beloved island-based drama, will not wait. And with yours truly sidelined by a nasty case of food poisoning, the Reject HQ “losties” had to go it alone.

SXSW Preview: Citizen Architect

One category we’ve been trying to keep a closer eye on this year is the documentaries. Mostly because SXSW is quickly becoming known as one of the best major festivals around for seeing real life stories on the big screen. One doc that has caught my eye in this year’s line-up is Citizen Architect: Samuel Mockbee and the Spirit of the Rural Studio, a film by Sam Wainwright Douglass.

SXSW Preview: Mars

As I’ve mentioned about a hundred times already, we’re coming down the home stretch toward SXSW 2010. And as we continue to dig deeper into the festival line-up, we continue to find all sorts of interesting hidden gems. This one in particular stood out to me. Mars is a romantic comedy told in the visual style of a graphic novel, that tells the story of a reborn space race between the United States and the European Space Agency.

Felicia Day Will Be Your Geeky Red Riding Hood

Felicia Day Will Be Your Geeky Red Riding Hood

The classic Brothers Grimm tale Little Red Riding Hood seems to be getting a lot of play lately. We’ve been reporting on an Amanda Seyfried-led big screen project that will see the red hood make a comeback. And now today we get word from SyFy that Dr. Horrible star Felicia Day, probably best known for her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer or in the online web series The Guild, will don the red cape and run from wolves as well.
