When Lucy Liu signed on to the upcomming horror flick Rise, there were a few details within her contract that she wasnt exactly too sure of. She will star next to Michael “The Thing” Chiklis in the upcomming film from Ghost House Pictures as a reporter named Sadie Blake. Apparently Liu was confused by a condition in her contract titled “European Nudity.” The clause basically means that Europeans are much more open about nudity, so consequently it looks like she will have show some skin. For those of you who haven’t heard, there will be a new movie that has already created quite a cult following. Starring Samuel L. Jackson this film is about, well…snakes on a plane. Click the movie poster for the teaser trailer. It is funny how the film makers are almost deliberately drawing attention to this film by almost making fun of it. While Snakes On A Plane is sure to win a “Most Obvious Title” award, wouldn’t it be great if film makers named other movies according to what they are actually about? Here are some examples: Brokeback Mountain / Sheep Herders Gone Wild Memoirs of A Geisha / The Japanese Pretty Woman When a Stranger Calls / 87 Minutes On A Phone

Ghost Rider Trailer

When I heard that they would be making a Ghost Rider movie, the little kid in me was elated while the grown up in me was saying “oh god this could be really, really cheesy looking.” Well after I saw this trailer, I was pretty impressed. I know alot of fanboys are whining and moaning for some very specific reasons such as hating Nicolas Cage but hey, there is no such thing as a perfect movie. The special effects don’t look perfect but given the concept of a burning skeleton on a flaming motorcycle, I think they did pretty damn good.

Find out how both a great cast plus a cool story come to equal a very average movie It has been 5 years since everything went wrong for Paul Barnell (Robin Williams). So when Paul finds a random dead body in the dumpster outside of his business, he decides to bring his brother back. After informing several people that Raymond is back in town, Paul plans his elborate death. You know those crazy conversations that happen after someone you know has just gotten out of a relationship? Imagine a movie entirely about those pseudo-intellectual conversations about life, love or relationships all while under the influence. Oh, and Dane Cook has a cameo. It has been a few months since Syd (Chris Evans) and London (Jessica Biel) have been broken up. Syd has found himself in a downward spiral of drug and alcohol abuse while wallowing in his sorrows. When he finds that the girl of his dreams is about to leave for California the next day and that a party is being thrown in her honor, he decides to take some action.

Final Grade: As an average movie-goer BAs comic fanboy D X2 was by far the best and most exciting super hero film ever made (Sorry Spidey). The third and “final” film in the series promised to be a climactic action orgy of epic proportions, but when I walked out of the theater I couldn’t help but feel a strong sense of disappointment. Oh, and don’t be an idiot…there is a scene after the credits that you have to see. The mutant world was left in peace following the attacks of William Stryker, but the lives of Charles Xavier’s (Patrick Stewart) X-Men would be forever changed. Logan/Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Cyclops/Scott Summers (James Marsden) are both left mourning the death of Jean Grey (Famke Jannsen) while also trying to teach some of the younger students what it means to be an X-Man. The mutant community is again turned upside down when a “cure” for mutation is created and offered to willing mutants. Along with this cure comes a heated debate, and mutants begin taking sides. Eric Lensherr/Magneto (Ian McKellen) uses the cure as a catalyst to rally up the most dangerous mutants in the world and wage the war of all wars against humanity that only the X-Men can stop.

Hello there to all Rejects! Greetings from Sunny Las Vegas, Nevada. Yes, you read that right, I am on Vacation!! As the Geeks say, w00t! So what does that mean to you, the loyal FSR reader? Well, that means we are running on little or no updates for a while (and by “a while” I mean until June 1st.) Unfortunately I am not quite skilled enough to plan ahead for something like this, therefore we did not have any pre-planned content. Sorry… But Associate Editor and all around good guy Brian Gibson will be filling in a little here and there as we get reviews for the likes of X-Men: The Last Stand, and possibly others. So kudos to Brian, and sorry to all of our readers… But be sure to stay with us, as we have a great Summer of Movies ahead of us! Directed by Rob Riener, Rumor Has It is a sophisticated, complicated and charming comedy that although is not “haha” funny, it still manages to be endearing due to the characters and actors. Jennifer Aniston plays a recently engaged and confused woman (Sarah Huttinger) who learns that her family was the inspiration for the book and film The Graduate, causing her to question if she just might be the offspring of the well-documented event. Instead of Anne Bancroft and Dustin Hoffman as Mrs. Robinson and the young graduate, we get Shirley MacLaine and Kevin Costner, but years after the famous affair. Confused about her career, family and even her relationship with her sweet but steady fianc© played by Mark Ruffulo, Sarah obsessively researches a family rumor and tracks down Beau Burroughs, the man both her mother and grandmother slept with thirty years ago. Unfortunately Sarah cannot simply ask her mother about what happened the week before marrying her father since her mom passed away and her grandmother doesn’t want to talk about it.

The Break-Up

Yesterday we gave you a little taste of what Owen Wilson has done since Wedding Crashers with the trailer from You, Me and Dupree. Now it is time to take a peek at this year’s most anticipated romantic comedy, The Break-Up, starring fellow Crasher Vince Vaughn and resident Friend turned serious film-star-sans-Brad-Pitt Jennifer Aniston. Allow me to list for you the top 5 things that excite me about this film: 1) It stars Vince Vaughn 2) Jon Favreau makes an appearance 3) Vince Vaughn also Co-Wrote 4) There is a Jennifer Aniston “bikini-wax” scene; and finally 5) Did I mention Vince Vaughn? The Da Vinci Code

Final Grade: C+ I gathered three workmates and headed for the movie that everyone’s been talking about. Three of us had already read the book; one hadn’t but knew the general idea of the story. It’s hard not to when a movie gets this much press, good and bad. Because of all the talk beforehand, each of us had different expectations and apprehensions about the film. And in the end? Well, critics can sometimes be very . . . critical. All four of us enjoyed the movie on different levels, but we all four still had a good night at the show. Chances are . . . everyone reading this already knows The Da Vinci Code‘s plot. You’ve all already read the book. Or heard about the book. Or heard about the movie. Or heard about the other book that this one ‘allegedly’ ripped ideas from. Well, you get the picture. However, there may be 20 or so people out there that have no idea what this little film is about. For you few secluded (or excluded I suppose) individuals, The Da Vinci Code is an adventure story. Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) is in Paris, signing copies of his new book on religious symbolism, when the French FBI requests his presence at a crime scene. It seems an elderly acquaintance of his was just murdered and his knowledge of symbols may help decipher a very odd crime scene. The victim seems to have spent his last moments leaving cryptic messages [Due to Content Scraping and Theft, we have been forced to try abbreviated feeds. X-Men: The Last Stand

We knew this day would come: The beginning of X-Men Week here at Film School Rejects. What is all the fuss about, you ask? Friday’s release of X-Men: The Last Stand, that is! And unless you have been living in a cave in Afghanistan, you are probably both aware of the release of X-Men and not on the U.S. Military’s Most Wanted list. And last time I checked, both of these are “good things.” So we thought, what better way to kick off the week than to bring you the trailer for X-Men: The Last Stand, as if you haven’t seen it already! You, Me and Dupree

Have you ever lost your job for taking a week off to attend your best friend’s wedding? If so, would you expect your dear friend to take you in from the cold, hard streets and allow you to live with him and his new bride? Such is the premise for the upcoming comedy You, Me and Dupree starring two actors from two of last years runaway hits: Matt Dillon of Crash and Owen Wilson of Wedding Crashers. Mix in the always sexy and delightfully funny Kate Hudson and you have a comedy to look forward to. The only question I have revolves around who will be more successful in their post-Crashers romcom? Vince Vaughn in The Break Up, or Wilson in Dupree. Oh golly, I just can’t wait to find out… Click the pic and see the trailer. Look out Hollywood elite, the Rejects have lasted another week… Our power to entertain at your expense is growing. Alright, now that my anti-Celebrity public service message is through, it is time to see what the Film School Rejects staff was up to this week: From the Staff: Brian Gibson brought us his take on all the mindless fun one can have with The Ringer and Grandma’s Boy. He also urged FSR readers not to walk, but to run away from the DVD release of When a Stranger Calls. Matthew Alexander pulled the classic action flick Raiders of the Lost Arc out of the Vault and provided a little bit of advice to George Lucas. George has already called to thank him. As for me, I have unleashed my love of animated fun and children’s movies with reviews for the magical Nanny McPhee and the fun but all too Shrek-like Hoodwinked. I also poked fun at Matthew Broderick in The Producers and talked a little Da Vinci Code (I couldn’t help it, it’s everywhere.) Tara and Jarvis took the week off, but expect a review of The Da Vinci Code from Mr. Mishler over the weekend. And last but not least, it was trailers, trailers, trailers all week long! We brought you the first looks at Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center, Meryl Streep’s creepy hair-do in The Devil Wears Prada, and Alison Murray’s opus du life on the streets in Europe Mouth to Mouth. Mouth to Mouth

I know what you are thinking… Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas meets Road Trip meets The Motorcycle Diaries. Okay, maybe that is just me. Young Ellen Page stars in Mouth to Mouth, a film that is being heralded as a “gripping look” at life on the streets of Europe as a runaway. The trailer shows off the film’s $25 total cost of production, but I guess there is supposed to be a good story… I hope so. This film released yesterday in a very limited fashion, so if you don’t live in New York you can fagettaboutit! You know the drill, the link is the picture, the picture is the link. The Devil Wears Prada

As if there weren’t enough “Devil” movies this year with the impending Omen release on 6.6.06, 20th Century Fox has decided to bring another type of evil to the silver screen. The new trailer for The Devil Wears Prada is online over at Apple’s wonderful world of movie trailers (my favorite spot.) In this flick, Anne Hathaway plays a young, conservative midwestern girl who moves to the big city to fulfill her dream of being a fashion guru’s coffee runner. Of course the rest of the story can only follow with the small town girl growing up, becoming something in the big city, and finding love (that’s where Entourage‘s Adrian Grenier comes in.) And is it just me, or does Meryl Streep look uber-creepy in that hair? The trailer is worth a look, just click the picture above. Raiders of the Lost Arc

After the success of Spielberg’s Jaws and Lucas’ Star Wars, the two young directors, and friends, were on top of the cinematic world and looking for a new project. When George Lucas told Steven Spielberg about a new character he was sketching, an archeologist with a flair for action, Spielberg was immediately intrigued and asked if he could direct the movie. Lucas gave him the green light on the spot, and so was formed the team which would eventually bring us Raiders of the Lost Ark, a movie which upped the ante for action movies and years later has yet to be surpassed. The story takes place in the 1930′s, when Hitler was in power in Germany but before his blitzkrieg of Poland in 1939. Professor Indiana Jones, after an initial action sequence which gives us a taste of things to come, is contacted by the US government which has some questions about an archeological project which seems to have captured Hitler’s interest. He soon finds himself involved in an “operation” to recover the lost Ark of the Covenant, which reputedly is full of great powers which the Israelites used to defeat their enemies. What follows is perhaps the greatest tour de force in Hollywood history.

Since the spring of 2001 one thing has been on the minds of children, parents and closet fairy tale loving twenty somethings alike: Will there ever be another animated film that will live up to the mastery of Shrek? Then in 2004, Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy returned to voice an equally as entertaining and superbly magical sequel. But even with these two powerhouse fairy tale’s charming our DVD collections, lovers of these animated cult classics still wonder whether we will have to wait until 2007′s release of Shrek the Third in order to once again enjoy timely and subtle pop culture references mixed in with those magical stories of old… Insert Hoodwinked, the remixed story of Little Red Riding Hood and all those crazy creatures of the magic forest. Allow me to break it down for you; Little Red, voiced by Anne Hathaway (most recently seen in a different “fairy” movie), is traveling through the forest on her way to – you guessed it – Grandma’s house. And when she arrives she unexpectedly crosses paths with the Big Bad Wolf. Grandma (Glenn Close) pops out of the closet all tied up, and just as the wolf is ready to eat our poor heroine, the gigantic Woodsman, voiced by Jim Belushi, crashes through the window in an axe swinging craze. The next thing we know the cops, led by the aptly named Chief Grizzly (Xzibit) and the suave amphibious investigator Nicky Flippers (David Ogden Stiers), are brought in [Due to Content Scraping and Theft, we have been forced to try abbreviated feeds. Though the film had its moments, Grandma’s Boy felt like it wasn’t so much a movie as it was an experiment to see how Adam Sandler’s friends could do without him as an anchor. 36 year old video game tester Alex (Allen Covert) has been evicted from his apartment and has no place to stay. After hearing that one of his Grandma’s roommates just died, Alex decides to move in with his Grandma (Doris Roberts) and her other two roommates (Shirley Jones, Shirley Knight). At first, moving in with the three women sounded like a great idea because all Grandma’s spoil their grandkids. Later, Alex finds that the three women expect some housework to be done in return. The early morning chores start to take their toll on Alex and start interfering with his job. Prodigy video game developer J.P. (Joel Moore) is developing a new game for Alex’s firm that is sure to be a hit but is well behind production schedule. Their boss, Mr. Cheezle (Kevin Nealon), decides to bring in production schedule expert Samantha (Linda Cardellini) to put the game back on track. Between developing an interest in Samantha, getting high and being preoccupied by his three new roommates, Alex is finding it hard to focus.

During the next 134 minutes you may be forced to ask yourself “Is 10 minutes of Will Ferrell worth buying a $20 DVD?” This would be the question, if of course you were about to sit down right now and watch The Producers. And with constant cameo presence, Mr. Ferrell is forcing us to answer this question over and over again. In the case of a film like Wedding Crashers, the answer is a resounding YES! In the case of 2005′s The Producers… eh… not so much. In The Producers, we get a dose of Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick playing Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder as Bialystock and Bloom. Did you follow that? Yes, this is a remake of the 1968 film of the same name. And like an open bottle of cheap 1960′s wine, it hasn’t exactly aged well. The 1968 version was a visionary work of musical comedy from the genius of Mel Brooks. The 2005 version… has Mel Brooks in it. And did I mention 10 minutes of Will Ferrell as a crazy neo-Nazi playwright? I think I did.

The Da Vinci Code

For the most part, this week has carried a fairly somber tone amongst the Film literati. At least in my opinion, the hype surrounding tomorrow’s release of The Da Vinci Code has evened out a bit. On Monday, most of the talk was centered around how Poseidon almost literally sank at the box office, finishing second to uber-douche bag Tom Cruise’s publicity stunt-fest Mission Impossible III. Tuesday it was much of the same, with more talk about Poseidon and some mixed news ranging from a new Superman Returns poster to the release of the trailer for Oli Stone’s homage to the heroes of 9/11 and their mustaches, World Trade Center. But then on Wednesday something happened. It was as if everyone in the world stopped and waited for 149 minutes as Ron Howard’s Da Vinci Code premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. And now all hell has broken loose as critics are slamming away at this once extremely hyped event. Here are some highlights: “There’s no code to decipher. Da Vinci is a dud — a dreary, droning, dull-witted adaptation of Dan Brown’s religioso detective story …” ~ Peter Travers, Rolling Stone “The Da Vinci Code may be controversial and even heretical — but worse, still, it’s plodding, tedious, deathly dull.” ~ Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer Combine all of this with the fact that it is being banned all over the world and what do you have? This my friends is the death of a great hype! Will this reaction [Due to Content Scraping and Theft, we have been forced to try abbreviated feeds.
